OK, so if such a horrendously shitty candidate with a horribly run campaign still gets popular vote, that says a lot about her opponent. Don't get me wrong, I strongly disliked Hillary and voted third party (in a completely blue state) but I would have rather had her than the current mess in office.

Trump is trash, yes, but it is worth noting that Hillary's campaign strategy prioritized the popular vote over the electoral vote. They made a point of spending in LA and Chicago and New Orleans because they feared losing the popular vote for...reasons.

So it's a little disingenuous to point to her popular vote total without acknowledging the reasons why that total is shifted so heavily in her favor.

The bigger issue to me is that she spent more time and money in places like Arizona, Texas, and Georgia under the assumption that it would be a close enough to put those into play

Hillary winning the popular vote only shows that blue states have more people

Hillary won the blue states by a lot, and Trump won the red states by a lot, and Trump won the swing states by a bit. Which leads to Hillary winning the popular vote, and Trump winning the electoral vote.

I don't think Trump did particularly well in most red states, though

But corporations only have the powers and privileges our governments, either legislative or judicial, grant them

I would argue that on the contrary, corporations have the powers and privileges our governments don't strip from them. Opt-out, not opt-in.
Stuff like the bits detailed here:
Many workers, in fact, have little sense of the legal scope of their employer’s power. Most would be shocked to discover that they could be fired for being too attractive, declining to attend a political rally favored by their employer, or finding out that their daughter was raped by a friend of the boss—all real-life examples cited by Anderson. Indeed, it is only after dismissal for such reasons that many workers learn of the sweeping breadth of at-will employment, the contractual norm that allows American employers to fire workers without warning and without cause, except for reasons explicitly deemed illegal.

Not a result of government saying "corporations can do that," but instead the result of government not saying "corporations can't do that."

There's some truth to this, but it's not specific to corporations, either. Small employers generally have fewer regulations than big business does.

Our legal system certainly favors employers, but it is our legal system and not some kind of market system. Like, ESI is an intentional governmental policy that arose particularly during WW2 because of price controls on labor.

tl;dr: grocery spending habit of food stamps recipients is basically no different from non-recipients

Then... it's a success?

so my thoughts are:

there is a statistically significant difference between SNAP and non-SNAP purchasers, but it is very small

americans have an awful diet

we should stop subsidizing corn

I could maybe agree to testing a limitation of SNAP from purchasing sugar-sweetened beverages, but I expect it wouldn't matter much since most SNAP recipients have money theyd use to get soda the way they can use money to get alcohol and tobacco

sugar is worse for us than alcohol and tobacco and most illegal drugs but we subsidize it

gubmints bad

It's not true, though. As automation raises our standard of living, things that used to be infeasible will become actual jobs; you can already see this in some more affluent cities where people can make a living walking dogs.

Or, in the case of paralegals becoming automated, you might see a growth in the need for lawyers as legal services become more accessible to those with a lower income.

https://qz.com/932417/robots-wont-take-your-job-theyll-help-make-room-for-meaningful-work-instead/

Of course there isn't a guarantee that jobs will be replaced at a 1:1 ratio but it's not a 100:1 ratio either
