I've had several people rave to me about the Agent 9 recut, which apparently edits the film to be more coherent while adding in some of the better deleted scenes from the Blu-Ray.

I kindly thank you for alerting us to the existence of this.

It's worth noting that pretty much every Aliens movie has an extened additional "Directors/special cut" that is considered better than the original.

Although IMO i still think the original Alien version is better than the directors cut. "Let's take out half of the slow build and add in Ripley getting slapped and the movie is better!" if you say so....

I loved Terminator 1 and 2 but 3 was so bad it killed my interest in the series


I know they've done more movies and TV shows since then and are they any good? I don't get how they can continue to make sense considering what we know from the first three movies.

Mark Miller

"The Rape of Wonder Woman" is an unreleased comic book story written by famed Scottish writer Mark Millar

"I pitched this to DC for a laugh years back. The idea was that, like Death of Superman, we had Rape of Wonder Woman; a twenty-two page rape scene that opened up into a gatefold at the end just like Superman did."

The comic's idea surfaced around 1993, the year of the mentioned Death of Superman arc and as well as the Batman arc "Knightfall" where the Caped Crusader got his spine broken by Bane and is forced to give the cape and cowl to Jean-Paul Valley, who would later become the violent Azrael. Despite Millar saying that the story was just a joke he had made, he mentioned the fact that DC Comics was actually considering publishing the story and already had an artist draw a sketch for the comic's first page.

This was meant to be DC's way of exploring a state of weakness to Wonder Woman in a similar vein to the Superman and Batman arcs; this comic would have served as a way to show a more aggressive Wonder Woman after suffering such acts in a similar way to the other arcs.

However, the increase of rape allegations in the media and a lot of complaints in both DC's writing and art departments lead to the comic's quick cancellation.

I expect your opinion would be different if you watched both movies tomorrow in quick succession. It's most likely been years if not decades since you saw either and you're just remembering trademark moments. Predator 1 has some more memorable lines sure and gains points for being the original.

But go past the 2 or 3 good lines and just focus on the film itself. 2 is better. It actually has a plot and character arcs, cool scenes and some hammy heart to it. 1 has nothing beyond it's cool lines/moments, everything else is medicore.

It doesn't bother me that Danny Glover is black I don't get that's an issue to some people. Who cares?

Anyway, I now declare this topic to be a Predator appreciation topic.

Predators was fantastic. A true successor to the classic that was the original, and helped us forget about Predator 2.

My brother and I saw it in the theater. What a blast. We were high-fiving at every call back and reference to the original. When the credits rolled, the kids in front of us said "that's a weird choice for a song". Amateurs.

I was also informed there's another one in the works. Although I haven't looked into it.

I haven't seen Predators, I heard it was poo.

I kinda gave up on the series after the Alien vs Predator films

The film actually had a plot and cool scenes like the Subway and going on the predator ship.

Just rewatched it and compared to Terminator, Indiana Jones, Alien, Back to The Future, Short Circuit etc it has nothing.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a "bad" movie. It's fine. It's fun. It's serviceable. But Hollywood churns out a dozen "Watchable." movies every single year. I don't get what was so special about Predator.

50% of the movie is just sweaty shirtless men mugging at the camera, talking tough and posing. Feels like an episode of Raw.
It has the most pointless female character that I can think of in movies. She literally does nothing.
The effects are horribly dated.
Also what was the point of the whole sub-plot of Dillon lying to get them there to do the secret mission? It never comes up again. It's just there... to fill space I guess?

And I know HISHE already made fun of this but the fact they are aware that the Predator only attacks them because they are armed but then continue to shot at it is really super dumb.

I really don't think it holds up at all.

This is true but it's true of literally every Alien movie.

The characters (except Ripley and to a lesser extent Hicks) are all completely incompetent idiots doing stupid things.

Think about it, The entire plot of Aliens stems from no one questing Ash, Kane sticking his fat fingers and face in the alien egg despite finding corpses earlier and being alone. Dallas completely ignoring quarantine procedures because he doesn't feel like it. Followed by all the repeated times they split up.

Hell in Aliens the fact that the marines are idiots especially Hudson and Gorman is literally part of the plot and Burke isn't far behind.

And let's not even touch on 3 or Resurrection where everyone is an idiot including Ripley.

Like I said in the OP, try to imagine an Alien movie were the crew weren't idiots.

The first film especially, the slow build was fantastic.

Aliens has less tension but I still like the build. The point about the soliders was to build the frustration among Ripley and the knowing audience that the marines are so full of themselves and confident when they have no idea what they are getting themselves into and are lambs heading to slaughter.

It's also needed to show Ripley's development, she chose to go on the trip out of fear and closure. Then she sat back and first but when shit hit the fan she chose to get involved and ended up saving the day. By the end of the movie she's an action hero and it's still consistant with being just a random woman in Aliens 1.

I much prefer the slow build to the modern day just throw explosions and action.

If the movie had started and Ripley + the marines were having firefights with exploing aliens 14 minutes in then the movie would be at best medicore. I think the pacing is fine

I had to laugh at the concept of them telling the guy they won't be able to do their homework or exams due to protesting. Somebody needs to explain to them that protesting as consequences and usually their more severe than missing an exam or failing a class.

Been rewatching the collection recently and it's incredibly how much Alien and Aliens hold up. Especially Alien which is a textbook case of "They don't make movies like this anymore." like 30 minutes of Alien is just a slow build of atmosphere and tension before anything even happens.

I also I forgot just how bad Alien 3 is. All of the flack Resurrection and Prometheus gets seems so bizarre to me when you compare it to Alien 3.

But does CE agree? What do you think?



Also it's funny how the plot of every single Alien's movie from the original all the way to Prometheus is centered around the core of the crew being complete idiots who make terrible decisions and do stupid things. Just for fun, imagine what an Alien movie would be like the if the crew were compotent.
