BTW LOL @ Daily Mail for trying to pin this on Tony Blair. They're still furious at him after he went ham on them for claiming he pushed for releasing a bunch of criminals who went on to commit terrorist attacks, when in reality he strongly opposed and fought against releasing them and the Daily Mail at the time were the ones angrily demanding they be set free for months on end being angry at him for refusing too.

Since Blair pointed this out they've gone all out smear on him.

It's hilarious considering he's not even an important figure anymore. It's literally just pettiness at this point but they won't stop.

Yeah it's awful. It sucks.

People keep saying "The Studio kept meddling" and it's very true, but there were problems in pre-production before it even began. They couldn't get the directors and some of the cast they wanted back

They went through a dozen scripts from several different writers. Many of which found their way onto the internet (some are better than the movie was) some sources say the stuido spent between 10 and 20 million dollars (in 90s) just on the writers creating scripts that were never used.


The studio was umming and erring the entire time. They lost the original director they had (and I think another one too) before Fincher got onto the project.

To make matters worse Sigourney Weaver was getting uppity about the whole project. She was told that she was just going to cameo at the start and the movie would be about Hicks. Which she was happy with. When they changed that to making the movie abot her again, she had reservations and agreed to do it but with several stipulations.

Including that Ripley dies at the end and that the planet has no weapons. She felt like (correctly IMO) that the Ripley character was harming rather than helping the series at this point and was tiring of the role.

Then the actor who played Hicks was furious when he found out his character was going to die at the start (after being told at one point they wanted him to be the lead) and said he wouldd sue if they used his likeness.

On top of that, some of the sets and props had already been designed for the other scripts.

So upon walking into the project Fincher was down millions of dollars from the original budget. A lot of the effects weren't holding up and had to be scrapped (or worse, were filmed and then scrapped) he had a mess of a script that was being re-written while filming, he had Weaver and the Studio is his ear changing and complaining about things. Having to make do with limited sets, effects and props. And having to start the movie off by killing off 2 beloved characters without showing them. (Hicks would sue and Newt being brutally killed isnt something they could show)

Honestly as bad as the movie is the fact Flincher pulled a coherant movie out of that mess is admirable. A lesser director would have failed.

People praise the "directors cut" as being better but I dunno. It adds a lot more of the religious stuff from the inmates and replaces the dog with an Ox which was originally intended (the dog never bothered me though and now the guy calls out to a dog that doesn't exist before he dies which is dumb)

But honestly more religious talk doesn't save the movie and the chest burster coming out of Ripley is better than it not coming out

Personally I think the whole premise was a mess. "Ripley is the sole female on a planet of criminals and an Alien and no weapons! You won't believe what happens next!" feels like fan-fiction that misses the point.

If you want to make a film about a lone woman dealing with crazy potential rapists fine, but why do you have to drag the Alien franchise into it? It's so absurd.

Truly a terrible film and as a sequel to aliens is it pathetic.

Yeah the original Terminator actually made sense. It was T2 that didn't make sense.

They said you COULD change the future by altering the past. Which then means a time-loop makes no sense because it should have already occured.

As good as T2 was as a movie. It made no sense logically and 3 was even worse.

You just have to accept that the time mechanics of Terminator make absolutely no sense whatsoever
