Literally just got in my car and the guy was talking about door bells being shunned by millennials.

I have a door bell (3 actually, 1 exterior front door, 1 interior front door [i have some strange entry way], 1 back door).

The door bell causes me to look at my security camera to see who is there. I never answer the door because of the doorbell but it does serve a purpose for me.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/energy/energy-hurricane-volcano-earthquake1.htm

If we crunch the numbers for an average hurricane (1.5 cm/day of rain, circle radius of 665 km), we get a gigantic amount of energy: 6.0 x 10^14 Watts or 5.2 x 10^19 Joules/day!

This is equivalent to about 200 times the total electrical generating capacity on the planet! NASA says that "during its life cycle a hurricane can expend as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs!" And we're just talking about average hurricanes here, not Katrina.

That's literally insane if that's true, that's like a 25% death rate before the age of 40.

summer after graduation was insane. night of graduation 4 kids died when they were drunk and racing, one of them was a good friend and was wanting me to come with them but I never rode with drunk people.

had 2 suicides that summer and 3 or 4 other drunk driving fatalities that summer. where I grew up every year had a number of drunk driving deaths and suicides but mine was like 3x as bad. the other suicides I am aware of came later from guys that left the military.

because few things feel better than believing yourself to be better than others.

I'm really noticing this a lot right now by staying in a hotel with a bunch of displaced hurricane evacuees. You can tell who comes from low-income situations and they treat the hotel staff like absolute crap. They demand things of the house keepers and staff. It's just disgusting.

I've worked in the service industry while I was in college and a bit after, so I understand how it feels to be on the other end. I try to make a big effort to not only be very kind and considerate of the hotel staff (maids and all), but show my gratitude for their hard work.

For me people that I think are stupid I treat like crap/with little respect. It normally takes a while for me to start thinking someone is stupid though so I am always nice to strangers but I tend to treat a lot of my superiors at work shitty just because they are idiots and my behavior is tolerated because I am a high performer.

So yeah, I like treating people shitty by thinking myself better than them, just not based on race or income. Maybe it is because I feel my intelligence is one of my best attributes so I weigh it as the most important factor? Who knows.

bad diet - causes of bad diet are gluttony, ignorance, lack of time, tons of depressed people and other issues which cause them to eat their feelings

exercise - much much much smaller impact than the bad diet but it is a contributing factor as well. reasons basically the same as above but slothfulness instead of gluttony

lack of real adversity so people give up - the world is peaceful for the most part and there is enough food. people have lost the fighting for survival so the aspect of having to eat healthy for your entire life is just overwhelming for a lot of people.

It takes a good deal of business sophistication to be able to exploit global labor effectively, that is true. But companies are getting larger and more powerful, consolidating to fewer options. In 1994 the Fortune 500 made up 58% of the GDP, in 2013 they made up 73% and the overall trend is that they are becoming more and more of the economy.

There will always be small businesses but there will be fewer employment options for our generation and the multi-nationals that make up the fortune 500 have no loyalty to their employees or even their country.

employers would rather have someone they can burn out and pay a fraction of their worth than someone that gives a bit better performance for a lot more. you are also no longer competing against just other americans in your region but increasingly a global market place.

It used to be as you aged you were respected in the company and your income continued to grow.

The current economic climate discriminates pretty heavily against people over 50. With average duration of employment shrinking it is more just being realistic that I will not have the same opportunities to make money at 60 as I did at 30.

I don't plan to ever fully retire but I should be able to start working part time (as in 40 hours a week but like 10-20 weeks a year) at around 45, 50 if I want to play it safe. Really I just don't want to live in squalor as a sr. citizen.

Retirement is going to be awful for most millennials if there isn't a significant change to things.
