This kid probably could barely count to ten by the time his parent started literally seeing professionals with her child and changing how her child was viewed by his family and others around him. The most minute actions and behaviors children are subjected to can change them for life, so you can bet your ass that treating a child as if they have a mental disorder and think that their entire identity is flawed in nature will change that kid for life. And as darkphoenix said above, kids are easily persuaded and often fall into the hype and encouragement of adults. The kid could suffer major mental issues later in life if he realizes he was pushed down a path he never had a full grasp on, and changing your identity isn't just a snap of the fingers, so he has the pressures of the community he associated himself with as well. Not to mention being ostracized or treated differently by peers, and having to constantly receive medical treatment and/or therapy later in his life because something like this is bound to change him mentally is an impactful way, even if he decides to "change" later on. There have been similar cases where people flat out committed suicide because of shit like this.
