You can hop on any one of a half dozen Bruce Blitz videos on YouTube and see how much I like making people laugh when calling in to radio shows, and if you really want to run a radio show without inviting the most famous B8 user of all time on there for years running then it speaks to how well run "the show" actually is. Good hosts don't let bias get in the way of having a good guest on. Imagine how dumb it would be for Leon4 to be banned from coming on over a personality conflict, even though he's your best gues of all time and people enjoy his commentary. Your show quality would go down by hilarious levels, which is exactly what happened the past couple of contests. Deny it and blame me for it all you want, but it's the truth. There isn't much on here that's really gotten to me over the years, but this was one of them. I have no problem admitting it. It's bothered me for years, and NG has yet to be a man about it and explain why. I had to ask you to explain it for him, and all you could even do was guess because he never manned up to tell even you. It's one thing to not have a popular guest on, but quite another to be a coward about it.

We've had what, three contests in a row where people have literally laughed at you guys for not putting me on the PCA episode? It's not like there's no demand for me, and it's not like people don't read the PCA in droves. Go read Nick's topic. For all my supposed trolling, people still know me first and foremost for my hard work writing PCAs and wearing a cheap shirt from Sears.

You're reading way too much into this. Again I'm not gonna speak for Ng, but for me, you were just awkward to work with. I already apologized for not telling you way back in 2010 or 2011 so we could have at least tried working toward a solution, but yeah. No bias. No dynasty conspiracy crap. I just had an awkward time working with you whereas working with most other guests was a breeze. I'd be down to try again but it's not my call.

I can't speak for Ng, but I'm not sure if you're "not allowed back." You were never explicitly banned, and Ng's never had a vendetta against you.

The weapon breaking hadn't really affected me until I reached a tough shrine last night. The guardian there just has too much HP - to the extent that I'm guessing I'd have to break all my weapons and use a ton of arrows to take it down. So now I have to weigh whether I want to do that or go out and farm more quality weapons.

I'm not sure how you remedy a situation like this in a game with breakable weapons... just a little annoying is all.

Oh yeah, most (all?) bosses can be hit with a Visceral Attack. Some will have weak points, and battering those can cripple the boss and leave you a good opportunity to wreck them. Like, for bosses with pronounced limbs (Cleric Beast and Vicar Amelia), it's better to focus on those versus just attacking the torso.

I'm still walking around with 3 hearts (4 upgrades into Stamina). I think I'll put one more into Stam just to have a completed second wheel, and then I'll start pumping hearts. It seems wasteful to have food that'll heal 10+ hearts when I only have three.

That, and I'm starting to run into tougher enemies, including the "Major Test of Strength" shrine boss which wrecked my s*** a few times before I gave up.

Nice, I think 40 is a good level for that point in the game. Do you have any Fire Paper? Fire wrecks beast enemies.

One thing I will say about the game overall is that it has a TON of optional content. Some of the best areas in the game are entirely optional, as are a huge majority (like 2/3rd) of the bosses. It was a really ballsy design choice, but I enjoy it. Really rewards exploration.

Ah, the Vicar Amelia fight. She gave me some trouble the first time, but she's probably my most consistently killed boss now (maybe because I usually tackle her with a +5 or 6 weapon).

The lock-on camera does tend to lose its head at times, and that's because it needs to track bosses that are way faster and more sporadic than in Souls games. There are some boss fights where it may be preferable not to lock on - Amelia might be one of them.

Which duds are you rocking, btw? I think Gascoigne's gear might be my favorite - dude just looks so cool. He might actually be my favorite character in the game.

Insight is the key to your own madness.

I think it's funny that the first boss most people encounter, Cleric Beast, is very much a "Souls" style fight with relatively slow, telegraphed attacks. It kinda luls players in, but then they reach Gascoigne and get rightly annihilated. I think Father G is more relentless in his attacks than any Demon/Dark Souls enemy.

But yeah, if you encounter Cleric Beast second, you probably have the tools to dispatch it easily.

And just a little stat tidbit since it's never properly explained in the game: serrated weapons (Saw Blade, Saw Spear, transformed version of Threaded Cane) do an automatic 20% extra damage against "beast" type enemies. Beasts are basically any hairy/furry/feathery enemies, including bosses.

I've been exploring mostly the east side of the map. Sixteen shrines done (all stamina upgrades), but I haven't done much with regards to actual questing. I might just sprint to Hyrule Castle since people who do that early seem to be having fun with it.

Also, I saw what looked to be the outline of an enormous guardian moving atop Death Mountain. What the hell...

Hmm... 25k really is a lot for the game's first area. I've run through Central Yharnam like a dozen times, and I think killing every enemy (including the first optional boss) might give you around 15k. Ulti, you did some work boi.

I'm playing on a third-party pro controller for Wii U, and so far, I don't see the option to change ANY of my controls. I thought at least the sprint/jump buttons could be inverted, but I don't know where to do it and have fiddled with all the menus.

Hmm yeah, I can see that becoming an issue, but I've just gone on a cook-stravaganza anytime I see a pot to make sure I always have enough.

How have you guys been prioritizing health/stamina upgrades? I traded the first four orbs for a Stamina Vessel and am considering overloading on stamina until I feel the game becoming way too hard. With all the climbing, stamina seems really important in this game.

Not yet, but I only put an hour into the "true" BotW (after getting the paraglider) and can already tell I'm gonna be a Shrine addict. There's just something about the way they dot the landscape with that orange glow.

I put a solid four hours in last night and yeeeeep, the game is something special.

I don't mind the weapon durability, but I wish I had more than eight slots for melee weapons. I try to keep tool-weapons (torch, hammer, leaf) available at all times, so it really limits what I can keep on me to bonk baddies.

Oh and cooking is awesome. The gf loved it as much as I did.

I don't disagree, but my advice was mainly tailored for the early-to-mid game. If you pick the high-vitality starting class (Lone Survivor I think?), you can reach VIT/STR/DEX levels of 30/16/12 by the time you're level 33, which is still quite early in the game.

After that point, you'll probably have a feel for the weapons you like and can start pumping STR/DEX accordingly, but I think prioritizing Vitality at first (again, up to 30, cuz after that you start to get way less benefit out of it) is still the way to go.

Advice for a first run:

Class: Not important, but I'd take whichever gives you the most starting VIT.
Weapon: Ax (since you can get a weapon like the saw blade for free in the first area)
Firearm: Pistol (easier to parry)

VIT: Bump to 30. Pretty much your first priority.
END: 20-25 is plenty. Endurance isn't as important in this game. Don't prioritize over Vitality.
STR: Bump to 16. Consider bumping more depending on playstyle AFTER you get Vitality to 30.
DEX: Bump to 12. Consider bumping more depending on playstyle AFTER you get Vitality to 30.
BLD: Don't touch.
ARC: Don't touch.

STR/DEX of 16/12 allows you to wield what many people consider the game's best weapon, and you can get it pretty early as well.

That's one of the flaws, yeah.

Bloodborne does have customization (Bloodtinge and Arcane builds are possible), but they don't open up until later in the game, and the player needs to know what they're doing. They're a bad idea for a first run.

The idea of going through the whole game as a pure mage or gunslinger is pretty cool - it's an option I wish we had - but the core gameplay in Bloodborne is so much funner to me than the Souls games that I've stuck with it for multiple playthroughs.

But yeah, I won't argue there. In BB, most builds start the same and remain similar until at least halfway through.

Bloodborne seems so intimidating at first, but you'll eventually learn the "proper" method of aggressive play (which revolves around parrying enemies and dodging into their attacks) and will demolish mobs that gave you fits at the beginning of the game. It's an awesome feeling that other Souls games don't convey as well imo.

I'm sure you've noticed that there are fewer attributes to level up in this game (only six, right?). On top of that, two of em are pretty useless for a first playthrough: I wouldn't put much of anything into Arcane or Bloodtinge. Even Endurance is kind of throwaway since you start out with enough of a green bar to combo and dodge regularly.

The most important stat by far is Vitality. Enemies attack more ferociously than in Souls. You'll take plenty of hits so you want to ensure you can tank them, especially early on when learning the game.

I agree. Bloodborne might not have the location variety that the other games do, but at least it doesn't have any areas that are abjectly horrible. In Dark Souls, it felt like almost everything after Ornstein and Smough was crap.

Of the three Souls games I've played...

Bloodborne >> Dark >= Demon's

There isn't as much variety in Bloodborne (in terms of weapons, attire, enemies, or locations), but the atmosphere... the atmosphere and boss fights are seriously GOAT-tier.

Wow, I'm surprised how young he is. He's only 35 now despite being gone for over a decade. IIRC he was mediocre in the ring but had tons of time to improve. His mic skills were solid and that gimmick was just guaranteed gold for a heel. I kinda remember his debut when he interrupted Mick Foley - that theme song (another awesome part of the character) and the turban drew immediate heat before he even opened his mouth. So much lost potential.
