Indeed it is. I played until 1:30 last night and now I'm dragging ass at work. =(

And still no dungeons beaten, although it's about time I start. Any opinions on which I should tackle first?

Also, I love how every woman in this game is horny for Link. It's hilarious how far Nintendo took this joke.

The game is absolutely spellbinding right now. This, Xenoblade Chronicles, and the Mass Effect series are the only games that have given me that sense of wonderment in... at least the past decade. I particularly love when my gf is watching me play and reacts with the same excitement that I do.

A couple nights ago, I was dicking around in teh Faron region when all of a sudden, we saw the long, winding body of an enormous green dragon flying majestically under a bridge, and we both flipped out s***. There's just magic in this game.

That said, I have been wondering how it will be regarded over the years. I haven't seen the dungeons or experienced much of the story yet, but from what I'm hearing, they are "sparse." It leads me to think that this might be a game where the first playthrough is breathtaking, but there may not be as big an incentive for replays. Of course, I'll have to see the whole game myself before I can really form that opinion.

I've been playing on a third party Wii U pro controller with only one problem - some Shrines require the gamepad (only two of the ~32 I've seen so far, so I'm guessing fewer than 10% overall). I disagree with Nintendo's decision to have them in the game at all, but whatever.

I was actually talking about the secret little path (not a new area) close to the Shadows of Yharnam fight. You might have seen it (you can get a rune which increases your stamina), but maybe not.

Kinda tough to explain how to get to it, but you know that small pond/river with the huge pig before the boss fight? Explore around that area and you should find it.

I'm not sure how much time I've put in the past week (30 hours?), but I've barely scratched the surface and it seems like people are discovering new secrets every day. The work that went into this game is just something to behold.

This is when the game starts to get weird (there was a precursor to said weirdness right before the Shadows of Yharnam fight, but it's a secret path so you may not have seen it).

As for the DLC - it is definitely on the harder end, BUT the very first standard enemy you encounter has an ok chance of dropping a gem that's probably better than anything you currently have, so you might want to check it out just to encounter him.

Not for women, although poking fun of less sexually experienced women is a great reverse psychology tactic ("right, like you know anything about sex").

For men... well I'm not going to CAST SHAME on virgin men, but they probably feel enough shame about it themselves. So yes, there is shame there.

Oh I don't think anyone's brought up the Chalice Dungeons, which you can start now after beating Old Yharnam (provided you picked up the ritual blood item). Some people hate these things, but others couldn't get enough. My friend got so hooked on the Chalice Dungeons that be abandoned the main game.

Is your saw spec'd with gems that the sword doesn't have? It looked earlier like you were leveling both Strength and Dexterity, so that sword should be amazing since it scales well with both. Of course, it's gonna hit way less hard in its normal mode, but when you use the two handed mode (especially the charged R2 attack), it wrecks shop.

The first one by a light year. The HD-jump was also significant, but much of that was just because of HD, which is clear when we see how good HD re-releases of classic PS2 games look.

Yeah, I like how every weapon is viable. Bloodborne took a different approach with weapons - focusing on a much smaller number but making each feel unique - and I think it really paid off.

Also Chikage ftw. I was determined to beat the boss that "drops" it at a low level. Took freakin' forever but was so worth it - that weapon is a blast to use on a dedicated Bloodtinge run.

If you've beaten the Blood Starved Beast, a new path will have opened for you. At the Cathedral Ward save point, the door to the right which had been closed will now be open. Explore this area and you'll find a badge which will allow you to buy arguably the game's best weapon (at least for PvE).

I'll soon need to grapple with the decision of whether to tackle a dungeon or continue exploring. I've thought about exploring until I can get the Master Sword, but that would now require me to complete exactly half the shrines, which seems like a lot before I even see the first dungeon.

Starting from the Cathedral Ward lantern - I believe you'll want to take the door on the left (it's a side door). Go through this outdoor area, and a short path will curve to the left and down some stairs. On the bottom of these stairs, you'll see some of those villager enemies from early in the game and a dog or two. That's how you know you're in the right place.

Explore this area for a minute and you'll open a secret path (it's a downward path, like you're doing down a basement). Follow the path and you'll hit the new area, which is really cool imo.

Oh, and this really isn't a spoiler (more of a tipoff), but

there's another optional area which you can access from the church. You're probably overleveled for this one as well, but it's more challenging than Charnel and opens a path to what many people consider the game's best weapon

Each will grant some sort of buff - can range from increased defense to the ability to carry more blood vials/bullets.

True, but Charnel is also just easy like that. The witches are probably the easiest boss in the game, and the crazy lady mobs are way easier than the Church enemies (the white-faced dudes with the walking sticks). It's also 100% optional but highly recommended because it allows you to use runes.

EDIT: I'm honestly not sure why they made Charnel one of the least challenging areas in the game. Maybe to let the player level their weapon to +6 for the tougher areas ahead, or maybe because they didn't want to keep runes behind an impossible wall.

It definitely is. I used so many resources to kill my first Major Test last night, but with the Guardian weapons he gave me and a dish to power up my attacks, I bet I can kill him much more easily now.

Also, they're used to (minor gameplay spoilers) increase your inventory slots for weapons, bows, and shields, so they're very useful early on.

FYI it seems that BotW's review average has increased a bit. It's now a clear half percent ahead of Mario Galaxy with 42 reviews in (GameRankings), so it really may end up as the best-reviewed game ever.

I'm playing on a Pro Controller and am still not 100% used to the controls. Every button does something. You need to effectively manage both R buttons, both L buttons, the D-Pad, and two face buttons in order to really excel at the combat. Guess I'm just a s***tier gamer nowadays, but it's a lot to handle at once.

Yes, I think all metal equipment/weaponry can attract it. Yesterday I noticed that during a storm, if you go into your menu, all of your weapons (I didn't check clothing) which could potentially get you struck had a little lightning animation on them. Pretty cool touch.
