Yeah, I definitely think that's on my end, because FD hosted our games last night and it seemed fine. The characters sometimes jumped around but it didn't really have much of an impact, if any.

Digi promptly brought me back to Earth there. GG.

You're the first person I've faced who has aggressively attacked the net like that, and it seemed like a perfect way to counter what I was attempting to do.

It wasn't until the last game or so until I figured out how to stop that, but even then I couldn't really put it into practice.

26. God of War III (PS3)

This was the first game I ever purchased on my PS3, days after buying it. I didn't even have an HD TV yet, so the first time I played this game was in glorious standard definition. A little backstory on my PS3: My dad purchased a PS3 for himself a year or two after it came out. I don't count this period of time as owning the system, mostly because, except for in rare situations with certain games, I didn't spend much time playing it. It wasn't until 2010 that he realized it was essentially collecting dust in his room so he agreed to hand it over to me if I took all the games he had for it and traded them in, then gave him the money.

Back to God of War. For some reason, before this game I didn't spend a lot of time with the previous games in the series. I owned and played a little bit of the first game, and it wasn't until years later that I played the second in the series, so I'm not exactly sure why I was attracted to this game.

Regardless, maybe it was the fact that I had just got my hands on my own PS3, but I played an insane amount of this game. Oddly enough, my first Platinum trophy came from the very first PS3 game I personally owned, as I went through 3 playthroughs of this game back to back. I think a combination of all the memories discussed in this write-up provides a good explanation of why I like this game enough to have it just barely miss the top 25 on my list.

25. Need for Speed: Underground (PS2)

Every game on this list is exceptional, to the point that I found it very difficult to rank some over others because of how close they were in personal enjoyment. The top 25, however, are all on another level when compared to every game ranked before them. I didn't choose 25 as an arbitrary number that I believed I valued more either, it just worked out that way when I was going through the ranking process.

I think I've been conditioned to feel nostalgic about this game every time I hear the words Lil Jon and Get Low. In fact, just typing those words out makes me want to go play this game. I'm even nostalgic about the cover of this game's case. It's actually pretty crazy.

Why am I so nostalgic for this game? Probably because I played a whole bunch of it when I was younger, but it's also likely that this game is just great. At the age of ten, the thought of putting decals and neon lights on my bright red car seemed like the coolest thing ever, and I loved it. Being able to modify your car and upgrade its performance is something that I miss in a lot of modern racing games, and is always why I gravitate towards the Need for Speed and Gran Turismo series, regardless of their quality.

This game had more than just normal races, too, which, in modern games, isn't anything special. Back then though, there weren't many games (that I played, at least), that had drift events. Everything about this game just oozed coolness to ten year old me, but make no mistake, this game is as cool today as it was a dozen years ago.

28. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS2)

If you thought my adoration of Naughty Dog was confined to the next-gen consoles, you couldn't be more wrong, as both this entry and future entries will tell you.

The first Jak game is so different than its sequels that I often think of it as a completely different series altogether. This game was your poster Playstation 2 platformer, with the same humour, collecting, level style gameplay as the previously mentioned Ratchet and Sly games, which, as you can tell, I love.

That's about all I have to say in this write-up, because at this point I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with these similar games. Just know that the first Jak and Daxter is the 28th best game of all-time.

27. Ratchet and Clank (PS2)

Speaking of PS2 era humorous, level based platformers that I love, how about the original Ratchet and Clank?

This is probably going to be the shortest write-up on the list, both because I discussed everything I love about the series and the first game in particular in previous Ratchet write-ups, and also because I've discussed this style of game here even more.

The one thing I will say that I haven't already is that not many people like the first game the most out of the original three, and I do mostly because I spent the most time playing it when I was a kid, so it's likely a nostalgia thing. The other two are also great games, though.

Yeah ggs. I thought i had you early on and then you started reading me like a book. And then i started improving to make it even again but it wasn't quite enough.

It would have been better if i didn't lose 90% of our rallies that went past like 17 points. You always had a clutch read in those moments.

I did feel like i learned a lot though.

I had a real tough time getting a read on your throws for the first few games, and then near the end of the matches I felt like you had figured out my game plan.

The rallies felt like a coin flip a lot of the time. A bunch of them could have easily gone your way and it would've been a much different story.

I definitely feel like there's some cheap moves. The short corner lob works almost 100% of the time if your opponent isn't prepared for it, so I only try to use it once or twice a match.

This game is great. I've already played it for about 5 hours today, and the only issue I have with it is that it sometimes takes forever to find a game. I've only managed to get into a single 2v2 game in those 5 hours, but I was only looking to get the trophy as I plan on only really playing 1v1.

I don't think I'm great, but I legitimately have not lost a game yet. After I hit 20-0 I stopped counting, but I've got to be close to the "Win 50 games" trophy at this point. I'll almost definitely fall closer to the pack once people learn how to play though, because all I really did was do both tutorials, and I keep getting matched up against people who are seemingly playing their first game.

Speaking of Hunter, against all odds, I've still yet to best a Hunter in ranked play since the expansion.

As unbelievable as that sounds, it's true, because after the first 3-4 losses, I started keeping track of my games against Hunter, mostly because I was baffled at the outcome.

I am now officially 0-10 against Hunter after my most recent game. Over the course of those 10 losses, I have played Renolock, Reno Mage, Jade Shaman, Jade Druid, and Dragon Priest. It honestly feels like every Hunter gets the best possible hand against me every single time.

I don't understand.

I played the original Gold/Silver when they came out but it was so long ago I honestly don't remember much about them. The remakes stick more in my memory and they were a lot of fun! I can relate to the first Pokemon game being magical as a kid, though. I have a lot of memories for Red/Blue/Yellow, though I did eventually come to prefer the FR/LG remakes.

I played a lot of Gold over the years, up until the point where the battery in my cartridge died and I could no longer save the game, so a bunch of the memories I have of it are still fresh to me. That very first memory from the write-up is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the game, though.

I never actually finished HG/SS, which makes it the only mainline Pokemon game I haven't beaten. It's weird, because I was extremely excited for it because of my love of the originals. The parts I played of it were fun, but I think my expectations were a little too high going in. It also came out at a point in which I was distancing myself from the series, so that definitely played a part in it.

I was actually looking to give it another try before Sun/Moon came out, but after Pokemon GO all of the prices skyrocketed and I wasn't interested in paying $80 for it.

30. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2)

I'm not sure I've met anyone who believes the first Sly Cooper game was the best in the series, other than me. Like the Ratchet & Clank games, people tend to favour the sequels, but I spent the most time playing the first games in both of these series than any of the others, so there has to be an explanation for it. It's definitely not a nostalgia thing, either, because I picked up the remastered version of all of these games on the PS3, and still enjoyed the first game more. I just think it's better.

As for why, I think it's a combination of the level design and the playable characters. With the first Sly game, you played as Sly. No wheelchair Bentley, no Murray. They're all great characters, but I come to Sly Cooper to play as Sly Cooper. You also spent significantly less time in the hub world in the first Sly game, which I liked. The later games seemed to shift the focus away from individual levels, and while I think they're great, it just didn't feel the same.

With that out of the way, why do I like Sly Cooper? I've already mentioned the characters, and the Playstation 2 era platformer humour was on point here, which is always a plus. Beyond all that, though, the game was just a blast to play.

29. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)

Considering I've explained my love for "GTA style open-world games" in a bunch of my write ups, it wouldn't make sense for actual Grand Theft Auto games to show up on the list. We seen GTA V earlier on, but the PS2 era games were unlike any other, and we'll start with San Andreas.

There isn't much to explain about the gameplay of an open-world game like GTA that hasn't been said by others as well as myself on this very list, so I won't ramble on about that.

San Andreas provided an interesting setting, with a world that seemed huge at the time. I've seen some videos recently showing just how small it actually is, but as a kid it seemed massive. I remember driving from one end of the map to the other multiple times with it seemingly taking forever. The first time I played it I actually got a little discouraged when you were dumped into the small town as part of the story, just because it seemed like I was so far away from Los Santos.

Other things are great about this game, too. The soundtrack is amazing, which is the status quo for PS2 Grand Theft Auto, and I couldn't get enough of the weight and muscle interaction. Every time I'd start this game over, which was a whole lot, the first thing I'd do was go to the gym and stay there until my muscle level was at its max. It was little things like this that kept me coming back to this game and to GTA as a whole.

32. Def Jam: Fight for NY (PS2)

Def Jam: Fight for NY is my favourite fighting game of all time, but isn't it everyone's? Okay, probably not, but this game has the thing I value most in games, and something that very few if any fighting games have: a real story.

What is Def Jam? Essentially an action fighting game, where the characters are mostly well known musicians from the hip-hop community. I'm not the biggest hip-hop fan in the world, but at the age of 10 when I got this game I liked a lot of these artists, and at the very least, recognized almost all of them. Fighting as or against these real life people was exciting at the time.

It isn't just a regular fighting game, either. It has all of the fighting game aspects, but I feel as if it's more of a hybrid of fighting and wrestling games. Also, there were different styles and moves to choose from, and each character specialized in one of these.

The story mode was the best part. You created your character and chose your fighting style, then worked your way through the fight scene, gaining points to upgrade your character along the way. The story was interactive, as well. At certain points, you were given the option to join a certain group or favour certain people, changing the way the story played out, which gave the game a lot of replay value.

I've played this game start to finish three or four times, each time experimenting with different styles and choosing different outcomes. It's a lot of fun.

31. Pokemon Gold (GBC)

This was the first Pokemon game I ever played. I distinctly remember being so young playing this that I had no idea what was going on. I could read, so I had a vague idea of what to do, but it legitimately took months before I realized what to do at the beginning of the game and make any progress at all.

To start, you chose your Pokemon and were told to make a delivery to Mr. Pokemon. I couldn't find his house. I started over so many times, trained up my starter way more than I should have, and generally just walked around the first couple routes. I dropped the game and came back to it with what I assume was a better understanding and was finally able to continue my journey, and it was magical.

People have different opinions on Pokemon. Board 8 generally likes it a lot, so, regardless of what anyone thinks now, I'm sure you can remember your first true experience with Pokemon as a kid and how amazing it was. Pokemon Gold was this for me, and is why after a hundred releases, it is still my favourite of them all.

If it weren't for the great UCA medical team, I surely would not be able to address the UCA world a mere 24 hours after suffering a brutal beatdown at the hands of Strife.

For obvious reasons, I will not be competing on the upcoming RUIN. Broken teeth, more than enough cuts and bruises, and another concussion. I've got to hand it to Strife, he sure knows how to beat a man when he isn't face to face with him.

BUT, if you think anyone is going to stop the hottest Tag Team in the industry from their chance and success at becoming Tag Team Champions, you've got another thing coming.

Sultan and David are going to be at Pandemonium, and there isn't anything or anyone that is going to stop that. Since our inception, we've sought to prove how great we were, and have been gunning for those Titles. Tom can pretend he's throwing us a bone by giving us a shot, but deep down he, and everyone else, knows that Sultan and David are for real.

Don't think that means Strife and Apollo are off the hook, though. Not even close. Strife can rain on our parade, but he will get his comeuppance, AFTER Sultan and I have taken care of business this weekend.

I'm not even close to done with you Strife, but right now, Sultan and I have bigger fish to fry.

I've got almost a week until Pandemonium. I'll be ready. Sultan will be ready. I hope you're ready, Tom.

I loved that game, and I hope to replay it this year if I ever get an opportunity to dig out my old Gamecube at my parents house during a visit or something. I remember it being packed to the brim with really smart references to the show

It's similar to South Park in the sense that understanding and appreciating the references significantly increase the fun you have with the game, but I think the open-world setting in Hit and Run provides a better experience.

I've done a couple 100% runs of the game, and some of the later races and missions felt incredibly difficult at the time. I think it's easily one of the best licensed games out there.

34. The Simpsons: Hit & Run (PS2)

Also known as Grand Theft Auto: The Simpsons, this game gave you an open-world Springfield that, as Homer, lets you drive around in any of the iconic Simpsons cars and mess around with the iconic characters of this iconic world. Similar to GTA, you went around completing missions for people, and it also had side-missions, which included races, and collectibles as well. This game came out a year after Vice City and two after GTA 3, so it's clear where it borrowed from.

The Simpsons license only makes this game better, if you're a fan. It's still a genuinely fun game to play without even taking that into account, though. The world is fun, and the missions, which get increasingly challenging for a game probably targeted towards kids, feel rewarding. You also get to play in multiple different areas of the city, all in all making the map seem pretty huge, and the story is actually pretty cool as well! It goes to some fun places near the end.

It's hard to recommend a kids game 13 years after its release, but I will say that this is definitely not a licensed character cash in, and definitely think it's worth checking out.

33. Star Wars: Battlefront (PS2)

As a Star Wars mega fan, the Battlefront games were awesome. Even the newer one is pretty solid, but what sets the old ones apart is the inclusion of Galactic Conquest, which is essentially a story mode. If the next game in the series keeps the gameplay and adds this mode in, I can see it taking a spot on this list. Galactic Conquest, as a fan, is that good.

I didn't even realize online was a thing on the PS2 back in the day, so I played these games exclusively against the AI, but that is what made them so great. I felt like a badass playing as one rebel or clone soldier taking on an entire army on these iconic Star Wars maps. The game against the AI wasn't especially difficulty, so you often could rack up ten or twenty kills before dying, which felt awesome as well.

Galactic Conquest is extremely simple, but it's great. You choose your faction, and one by one you go to different planets in an effort to conquer them, winning the game once you beat them all. There isn't really even a story to it, but the idea of placing yourself in the Star Wars universe and doing it felt so cool. This mode is the only thing I want out of a new Battlefront game.

36. Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PSX)

This is a Yugioh game, but the card game you play in it isn't even really close to Yugioh at all. It had the characters from Yugioh, which was a plus, and the game featured cards with the same name and artwork as real Yugioh cards (not the right effects), but the actual card game in it was all over the place. In this game, you can play one card a turn, but you can also fuse any two or more cards together, and if they were compatible, they would form a stronger card. In some of the later battles, you had a less than zero chance of winning if you did not know how to make the strongest cards in the game. Oh, and the game did not explain any of this to you.

Despite everything I just said, this game is great. From my previous Yugioh game write-up, you know my history with the card game, so as a kid I was drawn to this game. It's not all nostalgia though, because even as an adult I've played this game and loved it.

This game is really weird, but I love it because it's weird, not despite it being weird.

35. Spyro: Year of the Dragon (PSX)

We've now reached the point in the list where my gaming habits are going to become especially apparent. 32/35 of the remaining games originated from a Playstation console, with many of them being exclusive to the brand, and that starts with Spyro.

Despite being similar gameplay wise to one another, every new Spyro game was able to introduce a new mechanic or collectible to make it just a little bit different, and with Spyro 3 it was the dragon eggs. I'm sure everyone is familiar with everyone's favourite small purple dragon, but it not, the Spyro games were your classic Playstation platformer, where you played as the small dragon traversing levels using your ability to glide and spew flame to defeat enemies and collect items on your way to beating these levels.

The first 3 Spyro games were all great in different ways, and you will see at least one more of them on this list. Year of the Dragon was more of that greatness, and they all still hold up even now.

Roman is beyond repair for a lot of people at this point, but if they don't turn him heel sometime before, during, or soon after beating Taker, I don't think the fans will ever be on his side.

I'm failing to understand the point of building up Strowman as a monster for the last year for it to come to that

The point was to build him up as part of a larger plan to build Roman up.

You know, like how literally everyone else in the company has been booked since the Reigns megapush began?

I naively thought that this time would be different

38. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

After seeing the first two in the series on the list, it wasn't a stretch to assume that the third game would also make an appearance. Out of the three, SMB3 is the game I've spent the most time playing outside of when I played as a kid, so that no doubt is a factor in it outranking the previous two.

SMB2 is a weird game, so it's hard to compare it, but compared to the original, SMB3 is objectively better in nearly every way. The world map is awesome, the Tanooki suit is awesome, the little mini-games are awesome, the boss ships are awesome, and the first time I experienced the giant world as a kid was mind blowing.

This is a great game. When I was about 15, a friend of mine who lived on my street got his hands on a NES, and for an entire Summer, we played this game nearly every day. I miss those days.

37. Beyond Good & Evil (PS2)

I don't want to sound like a hipster here, but I played this game before I even knew it was cool. When I was younger my dad would sometimes buy my brother and I random games, and so I came into possession of this game on the Gamecube having never heard of it before.

Something about it is so charming. The soundtrack is amazing, both during tense moments and in small moments of discovery. The photography system that involved being rewarded for taking pictures of every animal is one of my favourite things in gaming. The combat was fine, but this game was never about the combat. It told a compelling story with some compelling characters and it was fun to play. Together, Jade and Pey'j are great, and I had a great time solving every puzzle and collecting every pearl in the game both in my original playthrough and again on the PS3 with the remastered version.

Oh, and it also had a pseudo open-world and boat racing, which is cool.

40. Super Star Wars (SNES)

This might be the hardest game I've ever played, and is what was probably the start of me getting incredibly angry at video games. To put it into perspective, I bought this game the day it came out on PS4 sometime in the last year or so, and I still couldn't beat it legitimately despite multiple attempts, so imagine a seven year old trying to do the same. One of my vivid memories of playing this game as a kid involved my dad getting so fed up with me being frustrated that I was losing that he took the cart and literally smashed it. I then got it again for Christmas the following year.

Despite all that, I still love this game. Other than Super Mario World, there isn't a game I spent more time playing on my SNES as a kid, and growing up a huge Star Wars fan probably helped that. This game involves difficult, punishing platforming, and you were severely punished for dying as well because your weapon would be downgraded, making it very difficult to defeat the enemies. I'd often start over after a death if I was far enough in because I knew I wouldn't be able to recover from it.

Still, I love Star Wars so I loved the characters, the music was great, and despite it being incredibly difficult, it was still very fun to play.

39. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3)

Modern Warfare 2 is peak Call of Duty, and I refuse to believe any other argument. This game was the perfect multiplayer shooter, and with how I now feel about the genre, I can't see myself ever experiencing a multiplayer shooter that is anywhere close to the same level as this game.

I used to come home from school and play this game all night with my friends. At the age of 14 I thought we were so cool with our party and our matching clan tags. We were actually pretty good, too, which made it fun. I mean, I wasn't good at all (I rocked a solid 1.5 K/D), but my friends were good. Anyway, I'm not really sure what to say about this game. It's Call of Duty, and the gameplay in all of them have been pretty similar. It was just better here, and I can't explain why.

The single player was great, too. For a first-person military shooter, it was actually pretty interesting, so that helps its ranking, as well.

All I'll say is that your brother has some great taste in games.

I realized that the only card I was missing for full powered Jade Druid was Fandral, so I crafted him and went 10-2 from Rank 19 to 14.

Maybe it's because this class is new to me (I had 4 ranked wins with Druid before making this deck), but I'm having more fun with the game than I've had since the first week of the expansion.

42. Dark Cloud (PS2)

The original Dark Cloud is one of the first games I ever owned on the PS2, so it'll always be special to me because of that. It's still a great game in its own right, though.

The game itself is a standard dungeon crawler, in which you go through levels defeating monsters while dealing with things like thirst and weapon durability, but the biggest draw is the Georama, which after collected in the dungeons, was used to rebuild the towns outside of the dungeon. There were smaller things, like trees, rivers, and roads, but also houses that were inhabited by specific people that had to also be found in the dungeon. Each house was a little bit different, and everyone had their own preferences on the details of their home.

The building aspect was a perfect contrast to the intensity of the dungeon crawling. You could play a few levels, then spend 15 minutes working on your town. It was the perfect balance for me, and it still holds up even today, as I recently replayed it when a version of it was released on the PS4.

The soundtrack was great, too!

41. Shining Force (GEN)

I had to do some research when I put this game on this list. This was originally a Genesis game, but the first time I ever played it was as a part of Sega Smash Pack 2, a computer game that I somehow had on disc that contained other Sega classics, including Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, and Sonic 2. I spent some time with all of the games, but Shining Force was the one that really drew me in. I first played this game after La Pucelle, so I had some experience with the tactics genre going in (I still had no idea what the genre was, though).

The battle music is ingrained into my brain at this point, I've spent so much time playing this game (and unsurprisingly, have never beaten it). Over the years, I have gotten progressively further, though!

I love the simplicity of this game. In battle, there isn't too much to worry about. There are different units, but other than basic stats, there isn't much going on, and as someone who was terrible at tactics games at the time, I could appreciate that. Walking through the towns was cool, too. The slight puzzle elements reminded me of the old school Final Fantasys, which is always good.

There are 30 battles in this game. I've gotten as far as battle 25, however I can't tell you how many times I've replayed the first 15 or so battles throughout countless playthroughs. I've used the phrase "over a dozen times" in a bunch of my write-ups. That number has not been exaggerated in any of them, and it's not exaggerated here, either.

Despite my love of this game, the time and means in which I played it has meant that I've never actually played any of the sequels, which is something that I always tell myself I need to do. If they're anything like the original, I can see them being on this list.

44. La Pucelle: Tactics (PS2)

This was my first tactics game. Despite it being in the name, as a kid I never made the connection, and so it wasn't until I discovered the Disgaea series that I truly understand what the tactics genre even was.

This game is great. When I was younger, my cousin owned all the newest systems and had extensive libraries for each of them, despite the fact that she wasn't much of a gamer. What resulted was me going over and discovering all kinds of games by looking through what she had and borrowing them, and that's how I came across La Pucelle. I was instantly hooked, and despite never really understanding how to take advantage of any advanced strategies, spent a lot of time playing this game. As is tradition with my childhood gaming, I got stuck on a certain chapter, which resulted in me starting over numerous times.

It wasn't until years later when a version of this became available on the PSN store that I was able to fully appreciate how great this game is, and every part of it held up. The story is enjoyable, the characters are great, tactics gameplay is fun, it's all standard Nippon Ichi stuff. I've played a bunch of tactics games since, and only one has been able to beat out La Pucelle: Tactics.

43. Crash Bash (PSX)

This game probably takes the award for weirdest game to make the list, especially when considering its high placement, but you know what, Crash Bash is a great game. What makes it even weirder, though, is that I played this game strictly solo, always against the AI.

The best way to describe this game is a mixture of Mario Party mini-games and the progression of a Crash game. There are a bunch of levels, and to beat the level, you played mini games against other popular Crash series characters. There were boss levels as well, which were also mini-games. I'm a big Crash fan, so I had that going for me going in, but past that, the mini-games themselves were a lot of fun. I "beat" this game many times, going through the same levels over and over, and everything was just as fun the tenth time as it was the first.

I don't even like party games in general, so my love for this game is pretty confusing, but if I had to pick one to play, I'm definitely going with Crash Bash.

I will always disenchant golden cards.

In addition, I've already fully committed to only playing Standard by disenchanting all of my GvG cards. I look forward to next month when I'll get somewhere around 10k dust after disenchanting BRM, LoE, and TGT.

I used to care about collecting cards, until I stopped playing Yugioh and was left with boxes of cards that get more worthless as time goes on. Digital cards don't take up space, but they're even more useless if I'm never actually going to play with them anymore.
