I'm going to be honest, when I was out of work, I would much have preferred to just have no health care coverage at all. I was cutting it pretty tight with trying to pay rent on top of trying to pay for insurance that I wasn't using.

Now you can make the argument that "something could have happened to you, and you would have been glad that you had the coverage." But, quite frankly, the odds of something happening were very slim, and I was willing to take the gamble.

I get passionate about having creative freedom in comics-related media. A genre, by the way, that really saved me when I was in a dark place; so I take comics personally, and the ability to have free creative expression. So I'm going to be a comics defender when I think there's an injustice.

Nowhere in my posts do I attack Eddv personally. Do I vehemently disagree with his statements? Sure. And if that's all he did, I wouldn't care. It wouldn't affect my opinion of him. I liked Eddv. I thought he was a great user, someone with whom in the past I thought I COULD have this type of conversation. Ribbing a point of view is not the same as ribbing the integrity or personality of an individual.

Instead of Eddv saying, "Hey, Adam Strange isn't a valid comparison because A, B, and C, he chose to say, "Hey, I don't give a rip about you as a human being with an opposing point of view because in my mind you are a whiny nerd so essentially get f***ed you racist."

The cost of a comic in 1962 is actually worth 96 cents today. Comics today cost $2.99. This has driven comics away from a lot of audiences and closer to middle class America.

No, it flat out isn't. Race DOES NOT f***ING MATTER. It's the same story whether Iron Fist is Asian going to white land or White going to Asian land. Or Black going to Polynesian land. It's Stranger in a Strange Land. It's "I'm entering a culturally dissimilar realm and learning to face the angels and demons of that land."

By Eddv's logic, Harry Potter is racist because a Muggle-raised kid is entering the realm of magic. And don't tell me it's not the same because they all have white skin. That is the exact same story. The only difference here is that the geographical destination that is different happens to be another whiteland. It's the same concept. I reject your entire premise. You know what didn't bother anyone? Adam Strange presenting the same concept. Exact same concept we're talking about here. Except we made the aliens look like white people mostly. No difference, and you don't claim about it.

But it's the same story. Those aliens? They're another race. And Adam Strange falls in love with a native and has mixed race little babies. And the bad guys are all of the other race. So racist!

When you enter another culture, that tends to happen.

Point blank? Iron Fist is a kinda racist archetype. heroic white karate guy beats up evil asian karate guys - its racist, no way around it.

People put up with it because hes established beyond the archetype at this point within the comics. But this is a lot of viewers first foray with Danny, so they have no reason to put up with it, which is something some reviewers have chosen not to do.

How is it racist that a white guy fights bad guys who HAPPEN to be Asian?

This is why you can't just tell a cool story anymore. Why does the race matter? Here's why: it doesn't. If the story isn't presenting some form of racial bias (and it doesn't), then just chill the f*** out.

Most people disagree with you on that. You're allowed to have your opinion, but if you can't explain why and if they vast majority of people disagree with it, then you can't cite it as a definitive trend. Most people enjoyed Doctor Strange and it was considered a step up from recent Marvel films.

Danny Rand is a white guy, though. So apparently you have a problem with sticking true to the comics?

I say this as someone who actually doesn't care what race you make a character for the most part. Although I do think you have to have a Mediterranean look for Wonder Woman because that's her origin and it's pretty important to the character. That's a rare exception.

But it's a director's f***ing choice. If he wants a white character played by a white guy, then stop being a prick and let them hew to the comics. Was there a better choice for Danny Rand out there who was Asian? Not necessarily. I personally wouldn't cast him as Asian because a big piece of the character is that he's a white guy who enters in a non-white guy world.

At the same time, I don't give a f*** if Peter Parker is white or black. Actually same goes for Superman. You can make Aquaman Hispanic for all I care. But you don't get to harsh on a director for sticking to the comics if they do.
