I don't have a reference point for how much developing a game should cost, but the quality of Pokemon games in the last 10+ years has been abysmal so either they aren't spending enough, or they just don't care.
Most AAAs these days are 50 - 100 million + USD.

That said, Game Freak doesn't have the talent or skill to actually make a modern AAA, and they also refuse to expand and hire people (apparently because they are "happy" being a small company) who do know how to make a modern AAAs. And because Pokemon is profitable regardless, and continues to be the most profitable media IP, Nintendo nor the Pokemon Company makes them change. Why would they rock the boat when it's working so well, profitability wise.

A lot can be done with just talent and passion.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/7d202527.jpg

Where as Game Freak has neither. The passion they had for Pokemon dried up a long time ago. And as for their skill level, take a look at Home Town Hero, Game Freak's personal passion project they had most of their main staff working on simultaneously with a main line Pokemon game, that had no restrictions of budget or time that many people use as excuses for Game Freak making poor quality Pokemon games (not that they have no effect but they don't matter when the development team is Game Freak), and Game Freak were marketing and asking people to buy (Home Town Hero) during marketing segments for Pokemon.

faramir77 posted...
If they made a more classic styled HD 2D game with 16 bit sprites like the GBA games but realistic backgrounds and shadowing along with animated sprites like in B/W, a lot of older fans would be well on board with it, plus development costs surely wouldn't be too high. They could even limit the Pokemon in it to just be from the first few generations, but make it so that ALL of the Pokemon from those generations are available to catch.
I'm not sure this is true. That's basically appealing to people who like retro games. Given, many Pokemon fans would buy anything labeled a "main series" Pokemon game

And let's not pretend here that Nintendo and the Pokemon Company are strapped for cash and can't afford better games. That has never been the issue. Pokemon is the most profitable media IP in human history.

But the key is how it's he most profitable media IP in human history. It's not from the games themselves, but the merchandise. So in essence, the games need to keep coming out at a steady pace to fuel the merchandise sales, which is what they really care about. And it's been definitively proven that the quality of the games don't matter in regards to the merchandise sales, as along as they keep coming out.

The tldr is Hasan uses a shock collar on his dog to keep it on the small bed in camera on his stream, likely to improve his stream performance (animals on camera statically have this effect). After he was caught doing it (he's been doing it for a long time after people looked at past streams, but he was recently caught doing it), he poorly lied about it, further proving he was using a shock collar, than people started making fun of him for using a shock collar just to keep his dog on camera and making lots of memes. Him and his influencer friend group kept coming up with new, different explanations for the shock collar, which further made it seem like they were lying.

Yeah but if that happened you aren't a superhero, you are just a guy with superpowers that got himself killed, in order to be a superhero you need to actually do some heroic shit, so even if you aren't bullet proof you would, by definition, not get yourself killed before you become a hero

I was referring to how a mass majority of the super heroes and villain's in the worlds of super hero storylines are typically in no way shape or form immune to bullets and modern weaponry, and the fact that they haven't been shot dead is a handwave for the story to work, because they can't have every super villain (or hero) be on that power level. The lack of lethality of blunt force trauma is also a handwave typical in super hero stories, where it seems like blunt force is always non lethal and only bullets and sharp objects can actually kill people.

The story says the hero is "holding back", but than you see them toss a guy with a regular body across the room into a wall, and throw people through solid wood desks, and the criminals are "just knocked out" but otherwise perfectly fine with no permanent injuries.

Again, not claiming that super hero stories need to be realistic, just that they do rely on a lot of conveniences and handwaves to work.

Muscles posted...
Also you could have bullet proof costume/armor, or just be smart enough to not get yourself shot, like most depictions of Batman where he works from the shadows. You can't get yourself shot if the people with guns can't see you or know you are there
Then when he's in the Justice League storylines he's punching people in board daylight with Superman, Wonder Women, and Green Lantern, and often being portrayed as somehow contributing that way in a manner that matters.

And yeah, I know that's one of the bad depictions.

And depending on the version of Magneto he sometimes just has a shield that can block things that are non magnetic.

More convenient 100% of super crime happens in New York
Realistically if super powers existed people wouldn't use them to be costumed super villains or vigilantes that work for free.

First of all, if your super power doesn't make you bullet proof, or immune to modern weapons, trying to be a super hero or villain that runs head first into battle is just suicide. You'll be killed within a week.

Banks IRL don't have too much physical money on site because they know robberies can happen, banks in super heroes stories consistently have vaults full of gold bars.

If you just wanted money why use your super power for crime? Many super powers effectively give you a huge advantage in the job market nobody can compete with, and even if you wanted to use your power for violence you could become a mercenary, which is legal.

And nobody would intentionally commit crimes in a city where a far more powerful super hero has beat them unconscious up 10+ times already.

The point being, there are a lot of conveniences and handwaves in super hero stories for the story to work at all.

Frankly surprised it didn't come to light a lot sooner.
I remember reading about another company a long time ago that managed content creators, and I can't remember the details anymore, that did something similar, they withheld payments for many months, kept telling their content creators that their money was coming and not go public about it, then one day just fired everybody and ran with the money. Obviously, the content creators went public about it but the could never get that money back. And while the news was public, as the company owners were never public figures and went into hiding to begin with it wasn't that easy for the public to go after them.

Now, Vshojo's owners haven't officially run away with the money and gone underground, yet, I'm just saying if the goal is just to gather as much money as possible before you get caught and run, it's been successfully done before.

It's confusing because there was never meant to be any direct continuity between all of the games (though occasionally games like the first two would be linked - no pun intended). But then fans whined about trying to figure out how all the games fit together in the timeline, so Nintendo eventually said "ehh, fuck it" and came out with something that sort of worked.
That's exactly what happened.

But now, Nintendo has committed hard to the timeline being a thing, even though, aside from the games that are direct sequels, the sperate Zelda games basically still don't matter to each other.

Personally, I never understood why people wanted Nintendo to make an official timeline for them, or why to them, all these separate Zelda games needed to be on a timeline to "make sense", but if they are happier for it then whatever.

Casino games are mathematically designed to favor the house so they'll always gain more than they lose over time through the laws of probability (as long as they have enough customers).

And in the case someone is just really lucky, or cheating in a way the casino can't figure out, and are consistently winning too much money, they'll just tell you to cash out your winnings and leave (and don't come back). "Different strokes for different folks", some people do find "attacking" or "letting out their frustration" in a violent fashion relaxes them. Doubly so if they would have done so anyway on people (usually the people closest to them) if they didn't have an alternative to let out their frustration in a safe way.

Given, usually people do this at a gym, with a punching bag or something, having to pay to enter what is basically an amusement park attraction that has to restock everything after they're broken sounds like it can get expensive very fast.

I have also seen scam versions of this idea where they just bring people to the woods that they say is a "safe space" where you can scream, stomp, and break sticks (that were already in the woods) without being judged, which of course has basically no overhead and you could have just gone to the woods yourself to do that.

The people who go on Jeopardy are not geniuses in all manners of topics, they literally study trivia that often shows up in trivia games. Their actual skill is studying and memorization.

And the trivia questions they select for Jeopardy are chosen by people looking for trivia questions for games.

So the answer is because if they had video game trivia beyond the very surface level nobody would know the answers because none of the contestants studied those questions.

Now, if elaborate video game trivia became standard trivia questions that showed up in trivia games and Jeopardy often, then there would be trivia research materials on that subject available to study, and the Jeopardy contestants would then study those questions and know the answers, even if they don't play video games.

The most interesting Superman stories are the ones where he loses his powers which is kind of telling.

Goku is himself an unwavering good guy idiot hero, which is also a problem, but I would argue what makes Goku's fights interesting is not Goku, but the villains he fights.

Because Dragon Ball keeps introducing new stronger villains to challenge Goku, even if Goku himself keeps getting stronger to the point it doesn't make much sense.

And despite lots of villains eventually becoming Goku's allies, the story still permits a lot of death.

However, the story is basically a disaster that doesn't remember its own time travel/dimension travel rules.

Then the DLCs very questionably decide to backtrack what happened in the main game, defeating the entire point on the main game's story, and its themes.

While I didn't love Bioshock 1 as much as many others, I would still rate 1 and 2 above Infinite.

Now, if you're asking why American made movies do this, it's has absolutely nothing to do with realism, because of course it doesn't.

It's done because they are making an English movie for a primarily English speaking audience, and want to give the feeling of a language other than English being spoken while having their primarily English speaking audience understand it without having to use lots of subtitles, because lots of people don't like subtitles.

The whole ethos of DBZ is that potential is meaningless and grit is everything. You'd have to be uncommonly determined to want to do Goku's training routine but if you were 100% certain it would result in flying laser fight power you'd probably stick with it.
The reason the saiyans were all killed, originally by Frieza, and later retconned to have been Frieza under the orders of Beerus, was because the saiyans were a danger to everyone due to their combination of violence and limitless growth potential.

While there are repeated themes of the strongest not being those who necessarily look traditionally strong or scary, there aren't really themes of anyone being able to fight at the strongest level just because they train hard enough.

Fighting level wise as the story progressed pretty much everyone gets left behind on the good guy side aside from the surviving saiyans, because of their limitless growth potential (also even the other saiyans aside from Goku and Vegeta stopped caring about getting stronger just for the sake of it).

There are a tiny handful of humans that can properly use Ki, but they are pretty much a joke on the power level scale. Given, while they are a joke on the power level scale, they can still fly and shoot energy blasts, but again, even in Dragon Ball only tiny handful of humans could accomplish this. What could you do with this power if you actually attained it? Cheat in competitions against normal people I guess, like they did in the Buu saga. The Buu saga being where, they dramatically raised the power level floor, but at the same time raised the power level ceiling. Literally in this story though everyone accepts only the saiyans have any remote chance of posing a threat against Buu, and focus all their efforts on specifically trying to power up the remaining saiyans, rather then train themselves.

I don't follow Mr. Beast and don't care about the drama, but from an outsiders perspective, it sounds like one accusation became viral so everyone's jumping on the accusation bandwagon for attention, profit, and views.

Like, when one accusation towards a celebrity gains traction, then suddenly 50 people come out of nowhere with more accusations.

It's basically all semantics at this point. Competitive e-sports already exist without the help from traditional physical sports organizations.

That said, it's been pretty much impossible for most competitive gaming scenes to grow in any significant manner without a steady feed of cooperate money and direct support from the game's publishers, so there is nothing inherently wrong with someone else forking over they money for it to happen.

The overall response was negative at launch and after the first content drop and I haven't heard much about it since then. A lot of the hate was centered around it being a live service game but there were other issues with it as well. The concurrent player counts on Steam have been under 1000 for months now, so it is not a thriving game.
Well, it was a live service game nobody asked for that was forced on a studio famous for their single player games because every game's publisher wants to make the next Fortnite or die trying.

And to nobodies surprise trying to force a studio to make a live service game they have no experience in resulted in a poor game.

This is actually a pretty tough choice for me bit leaning toward Paris. Benefit of being in Paris would be that I could essentially visit most of Europe pretty easily. If I'm in Tokyo I can visit... well Japan. Both countries have great cuisine but hard to beat easy access to great bread and cheese. As for cons, I've heard both countries are pretty hostile toward foreigners

Also, as someone who likes to smoke weed pretty sure you'd be fucked if you got caught with weed in Japan. Probably not a big deal in France
From what I've heard it's mainly Paris where people are hostile.

According to Abroad in Japan he says in his decade of living in Japan (I don't think in Tokyo though) he's had dealings with openly racist people only a handful of times, but he does speak fluent Japanese so that cuts the cultural barrier significantly.

I just enjoy more Japanese things then French things, the hugest hurdle to living in Tokyo is the outrageous rent, but in this scenario it's already paid for.

That's kind of surprising, in the trailer it kind of seemed like they were pushing a "you're not a real american unless you believe in ????" narrative.

Smart in what?

People are not universally smart in everything, that's not how it works, you can be a rocket scientist and have no common sense, or knowledge of politics, or know how to repair your car.

And not being knowledgeable on a subject doesn't mean said person thinks they aren't. If anything, some people are more sure about subject the less they know about.

TopicYour "fight-or-flight" response?

Many people like to claim their response is "Fight" because it sounds cooler and "Flight" sounds cowardly but from my experience a pretty small amount amount of people actually have the automated reflex to attack things in a situation that triggers the "fight-or-flight" response rather than retreat or shrink away.

And I do mean, your automated reflex when you sense danger, not you thinking about it a bit and deciding you rather fight than run.

Given, you can train to change your fight-or-flight response to default to fight rather then flight, but very few people do this outside of combat training.
