I hated the lack of a clear villain, and how they had to put TwSitSh to fit it...but ultimately those guys had NO role in the story.

Three Hopes is pretty much the same, though depending on the path TwSitS are much more significant villains and you can oppose them more directly.

The closest thing Hopes has to a clear villain is Byleth - and you can even subvert that if you choose to give up your quest for vengeance and refuse to kill them.

Hopes has a more ambiguous ending, though. The war doesn't actually end, and it's implied things are going to keep happening even after the game ends. And your main character arguably has less influence on the lords you can side with (though it also avoids the time skip, so they also don't have some of the dramatic changes they go through in Houses).

nailed it. I want to believe it's 2 because I want the universe to be less magical. But they break that wall in every movie, so who am I kidding. That being said, it's positioned--to start the franchise-- as scientifically plausible and genius.

To be fair, even though magic blatantly exists in that universe, Indy is skeptical as fuck about it for most of Raiders (which is even stupider when you realize Raiders takes place after Temple of Doom, so by this point he's already seen a man who can pull people's hearts out of their chest and magic god rocks).

In other words, Indy probably wouldn't be so blase about a trap using an inherently illogical and supernatural trigger, so there'd have to be some physical mechanism that he understands for him to be so chill about it.

Needs a quick-release button so you can roll by just leaning over the table and opening your necklace.

Someone needs to figure out how to make the bracelets from Quag Keep (the first D&D-themed novel ever written - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quag_Keep ).

Basically, all of the characters have bracelets with dice in them, and every once in a while the dice will roll with various effects. Which is meant to simulate players rolling dice for their characters as an in-universe thing.

3 Houses is unapologetically dark, with no real designated good guys.

Those That Slither in the Dark are obviously the good guys.

Though as for player factions, the easiest way to describe it is that every faction thinks it's the good guys, and that they're doing the right things for the right reasons, but pretty much everyone is wrong about something. So in the end, everybody can wind up as an enemy to everyone else. And most of the conflict could be solved in about 15 minutes if everyone would just sit down and talk about things. But everyone's the hero of their own story - and you really only start seeing the ways in which they're wrong is if you play the other paths as well.

Though it's been pointed out that the color scheme itself can influence the perceptions of people who've played Fire Emblem games for a long time - the Kingdom is blue (the traditional color of the player's units), the Church is green (allied units), the Alliance is yellow (neutral units), and the Empire is red (enemy units). So more experienced players may be influenced into thinking Dmitri's path is the "good" one, the Church is your ally, the Alliance is mostly a distraction, and the Empire is the true enemy.

But as has been said, Edelgard is obviously the real hero of the game. Black Eagles/Crimson Flower best timeline.

DrYuya posted...
Not arguing that the person who "creates" it is an artist.

If they are creating art, they are, by literal definition, an artist.

You could argue to which degree they influence the act of creation, but that's one mother of a slippery slope because every artist uses tools. There is a significant difference between someone who fingerpaints on a cave wall using self-crafted pigments and someone who draws on a computer tablet or manipulates a photograph in Photoshop, but they're all still artists.

Someone creating AI art still needs to have the skills necessary to tell it to create the image they're looking for, and to at least some degree they're still impressing their intentions and mental expectations onto the work. One could argue that there's a difference between someone who is micromanaging descriptions and commands versus someone who just types out a single short sentence, but there's also a difference between someone who spends months painting a masterpiece and someone who doodles on a napkin for 30 seconds.

People get hung up on the idea of the tool, but ultimately we're liking going to reach a point as the tech improves where the end product becomes almost indistinguishable from anything a human could create. Which can actually open doors for people to become more creative (like, say, someone who has ideas for a comic but lacks the skill to draw it, who can now potentially use the new tools to provide art - in exactly the same way most sprite-art comics allowed people who couldn't draw to still tell stories).

There are already AI that can write and perform songs you'd never realize wasn't composed by a human. The limiting factor isn't "technology bad, no human soul", the limiting factor is the tech is still in its infancy, and WILL improve. The future is coming whether people want it to or not.

For fun, go back and look at CGI animation in the early 90s and tell me if you think it had "soul" or would ever be anything other than a computer-generated abomination. Then think about the fact that nearly every cartoon today is animated via computer and hand-drawn cel-based animation is almost a dead art. Shit evolves.

I don't remember the exact context, but I ended up doing that in reverse once to figure out how wide a TV was that I didn't have definite dimensions for: Take the known diagonal measurement, substitute 9L/16 for the height, expand everything out and solve the equation.

That's sort of what I was doing. I calculated based on the max height I had available and then figured out what the other two dimensions (width and diagonal/screen size) would wind up being, then I calculated what I'd get from a specific max width, and sort of played around with stuff a bit. So I could come up with an optimal size for the space.

It's generally easy to work with the three dimensions if you remember 3/4/5 for the sides of a triangle (which TVs generally conform to), and only resort to the full a + b = c if you really need to. So I was able to, say, calculate out pretty easily with 44" wide I'd get 33" high and a diagonal/screen size of around 55".

ConfusedTorchic posted...
you could have just googled the chart

I actually did later (that exact page, in fact), but not because of the TV size, as much because I wanted to see the "how far away are you supposed to be sitting away from the screen" info.

I didn't go looking for it for the measurements because I didn't really need to at the time. I actually just found it easier to pick up a calculator and do the math than it was to go look up charts or anything pre-established.

Though the sad part is afterwards I mostly just shrugged and decided I'm probably going to keep my two 32" screens I have (side-by-side for multitasking and for two-screen co-op gaming) rather than upgrade to something bigger anyway. Though I might still change my mind.

Of those, SimCity and Ultima are probably the most influential, which I would say is the primary factor that should be considered in putting together a museum of gaming history.

I'd argue Asteroids and Myst would outrank both of them.

Asteroids was a huge facet of both the arcade and console booms, became sort of synonymous with gaming for years, had a huge influence on the development of later games like Defender and Cosmic Avenger (and thus the games that followed them). And it made more money for Atari at the time than any other game. It's probably tied with Pac-Man for pointing to a single game from that era that most represents the era.

Myst basically helped push the adoption of CD-ROM and CD PC gaming as a whole, and had a huge influence on a lot of games that followed.

It's not a moral stance, though - if I saw a game I wanted to play and it was developed in Russia I wouldn't care. I haven't avoided any Russian games because they're Russian, I've avoided them because they don't really interest me.

They'd almost certainly be long dead from the pressure and the radiation long before you could ever get them close enough for major relativistic time dilation to even kick in.

So unless you went out of your way to develop entirely new science and create super-materials that can resist massive radiation and infinite pressure and built them a suit/ship out of it and then pushed them into the black hole, it's not really an issue. And if you DO have the time, resources, and genius to actually accomplish it you'd probably have far better ways to pass the time. Especially when you could just shoot them with a gun and it would probably be exactly the same from their perspective.

Robots are immune to Paralysis and Poison. They have no mana so they take greater damage from all other magic attacks (Fire, Ice, Thunder, etc).

Conversely, depending on the setting, they're mostly immune to magic because their scientific/mechanical nature is a counter to magical energies.

Also arguably depending on the setting, they might be relatively immune to fire/ice damage, but the change in temperature can either slow down or accelerate their mental processing by altering electrical resistance in their electrical pathways (a la superconductivity).

And lightning might do extra damage to them (shorting them out), or they might be able to recharge from it (by absorbing and recharging from it).
