Is it odd? Sure, hes not their father or relative, but I think that in his mind he was simply playing with them as if he was one of the kids because all the adults in his life were bloodsucking pieces of shit so kids were the only purity he experienced because they didnt know or care how rich or famous he was. I thought Grace confirmed that Skynet didnt exist in her time and the evil machine corporation was called Legion.
