On the opposite end of the spectrum, I don't think a single person in my AP American Lit class actually read The Sound and the Fury.

Every single person tried, bounced off the Benji chapters, and said "fuck it."

I love that book but I wouldn't assign it as an AP book. It is actually more like an upper level college lit book.

They should have assigned A Light In August or As I Lay Dying

The major novels they actually taught in high school.

Freshman - A Day No Pigs Would Die
Sophomore - Of Mice and Men; Oedepus Rex trilogy (ended up being the length of a small novel)
Junior - Farienheght 451
Senior - 1984

We read other stuff but everybody had to read these. They were also the focus of major blocks of in class lessons. 1984 was almost all of English class for 12 weeks.

I went to a small HS 25 years ago. None of these books were considered controversial. They even showed the 1984 film with nudity after we finished the book, nudity and all. You were allowed to opt out though.

I was in a large national IFC fraternity. I never put it on my resume but I bring it up when getting to know folks in professional and social situations.

Not immediately nor showhorned but if we start swapping college stories.

I served as the chapter VP and IFC rep. At least those were my highest positions.

As a person that grew up in a town of 1000 people in the mountains, the yumming yucks of others is small minded. Food is more than just the ingredients on the plate. Food is cultural and often context dependent. The experiences are intertwined. So bitching at people that like Golden Coral is often also trashing their lived experiences.

One of the greatest and funniest shows ever.

Growing skateboard and punk adjacent in the 90s and knowing some of these guys before the show made them a big deal to me.

I am in my forties and I still love the crew. It is a comfort show for me. Reminds me so much of the lowfi antics my friends got up to back in the day.

I went to a small school. Right around 400 people. I don't remember much of it beyond the standard baseline of some kids didn't like each other or sophomoric immaturity. Nothing like systematic or organized.

I rented Friday the 13th as like a 5 year old. The opening sequence scared me so much I made my parents take the cart from my room and keep it in theirs.

Yeah it ran late on some premium channel we had back in the early 2000s.
