I thought Final Fantasy VII's story was above and beyond what you would expect from a video game at the time.

Hole were originally going to be in Smashing Pumpkins' role, with Homer speaking to Courtney Love instead of Billy Corgan. They had to be changed because Sonic Youth and Kim Gordon couldn't stand Love and refused to be around her for the episode.

The line was originally "Hi Homer, big fan! Courtney Love!", and he responds with "Thanks, Homer grateful!"
