Between Horizons (XSX)

This is like the third game this year that I've played that dealt with Earthlings on a pilgrimage to a new home world only for things to go awry. This time, it is a crime-solving mystery adventure. I think it's a very good and interesting game, but it billed itself as being non-linear, and there's really only a certain part of the game that I think constitutes as that.

I finally feel good enough to get in position for a text heavy game. I'm a couple of cases into it, and I'm liking it so far. My brain is telling me different control inputs than what the game's are, so I'm constantly pausing when I want to bring up the PDA, vice-versa, and also various things while on the PDA.

Hopefully, I can finish it tomorrow or early enough on Wednesday that it is before the drawing (I hold all the power there, so I can draw whenever lol).

For now though, I will nominate:
Boomerang X
Cult of the Lamb

I failed a couple early on thinking that only the one that was true would hold gems until I realized that two can be true and even the one that is false can hold the gems. Once I figured that out, I don't think that I've failed one. That isn't to say that's what's happening with you because that doesn't come across as the case, but I was with you in failing parlor puzzles.

I started this yesterday. On Day 2, I was doing very well covering all the rooms (I actually don't know if I need to, but I just assumed yeah since the goal was finding the 46th room). I drafted the dark room at one point, and my blind pick on one of the exits was the maid's room, and that apparently reduced the chances of finding items in rooms. Well, I had no keys and all rooms with unused exits had locked doors, so that sucked lol.

I have a few questions that have probably been asked, but:

1. Is there any indication when drafting a room that a door will be locked? My final drafted room was the courtyard, and both exits there had key locked doors that just totally shocked me.

2. Are all rooms drafted once, or is it possible to get like several bedrooms, pantries, nooks, etc...? I'm guessing they are a draft once kind of deal, but I haven't really factored that into my room choices in my two runs as I'm just trying to fill out blueprint with viable exit pattens without that sort of meta thinking.

Tempopo (XSX)

Another grid-based puzzler from Witch Beam, this one is a musical auto-puzzler (I'm sure there is an actual term for the latter part) where you set up all the instructions beforehand and watch everything unfold. Your goal is to collect all the flowers in a level and bring them to the exit portal. You can start and restart at any time, and your moves are saved so you don't have to re-do everything from scratch. There's even a hint system that each time you activate it, it will tell you one move that you need to make (either something goes on a specific spot, a placed instruction needs to be removed, or you were correct to place an instruction on a space but you chose the wrong one).

While I like those player-friendly design elements, the camera makes it hard to appreciate your hard work or learn what you did wrong as it can be difficult to watch everything in motion when some levels are really large (vertical and/or horizontal) or have a ton of the creatures you are giving instructions to moving at once. The camera can also make it difficult to highlight the grid you want, but that is probably not an issue if playing on PC.

Favorite Class: Denver Broncos

WR Terry McLaurin (27th overall)
DT Tyler Lancaster (59th overall)
TE Kyle Pitts (91st overall)
G Jamal Adkins (23rd overall)
CB Sam Young (155th overall)
MLB Gene Briggs (187th overall)
HB John Miller (219th overall)

Team like the Packers and Seahawks have seemingly high floor draft classes as their selections have a decent likelihood of fitting into certain roles with some chances of getting expanded roles in the future. However, I like a lot of the high upside classes that teams like the Dolphins, 49ers, and Falcons possess. The one that I feel has the best combo of highest floor/highest ceiling though is the Broncos. It is not out of the realm of possibility that those first three picks are Week 1 starters on a great team. G Adkins is a bit of a wild card. I cannot imagine that the Broncos won't go out and get a free agent to fill their LG role, but the interior OL of this team has been more injured than the average team, so if Adkins can get a top backup job somewhere, he could get some juicy playing time in his 3+ years with the team. The other three are probably not going to see the field much or at all as rookies being probable #4 CB, #3 MLB, and #4 HB, but perhaps one will surprise me.

First Round: Broncos WR Terry McLaurin (27th overall) - The Broncos have an ascending offense with their QB/WR/1 duo 26 and under. Current projected #2 WR David Moore has been all over the place as a slot/#4 guy, so if McLaurin is able to able to win the #2 job out of the preseason, the Broncos might be in a better spot to continue their upwards trajectory and McLaurin could be a dark horse RotY candidate without a great TE or pass-catching HB to siphon off many targets.

Second Round: Falcons G Alijah Vera-Tucker (55th overall) - With an elite HB and QB, the Falcons are a very OL friendly team as evidenced by former 1st round picks and reclamation projects from other teams thriving here. With an open spot at RG and likely being the top-rated non-Jenkins G, Tucker is the presumptuous favorite to win the job, and you have to love his ceiling as a result.

Third Round: Dolphins OLB Blaine Mitchell (73rd overall) - While the focus of the Dolphins was predictably on offense, they did have a starting spot at LOLB available, and Mitchell is going to be in the mix. There are only so many stats to throw around, so no matter what the team/system, all LBs or DL or whatever are not going to produce elite stat lines. With a balanced makeup, if the prospect sheet was to be believed, Mitchell could be a sneaky good player in that annual 70-ish tackles, 5-7 sacks+INTs, 3-5 FFs+FRs kind of deal that is underrated and outstanding for someone who will probably be making under $10 mil through his three year rookie contract.

Fourth Round: Eagles CB Champ Hill (124th overall) - The Eagles have been one of the best defensive teams over the past handful of seasons, but they are continuously cap-strapped. If they pretty much have to keep hold there for a little while, Hill will be locked into a slot corner role on what is the best unit of this defense. He could end up providing a lot of value for a late 4th rounder, and given both starting CBs are in their 30s, it wouldn't be unexpected if he becomes a full-time starter here at some point if he develops well.

Fifth Round: Giants HB Lance Smith (143rd overall) - The Giants have a good track record of getting the most out of 3rd-5th round HBs. They will probably not be able to get another player into the HB room, so Smith could wind up winning the #2 job. The #1 is Josh Jacobs, who has little track record being a 1st round pick from a season ago. I'm not saying that Smith has a remotely decent chance of being the #1 ever, but above all else, we don't know how healthy Jacobs will be in a full-time role, so that could lead to some unexpected snap counts for the 5th rounder.

Sixth Round: Browns SS Dana Nelson (163rd overall) - Every season, there's at least one late round SS that makes a sizeable impact in a backup role and ends up sticking around the league a decade and possibly gets a starting job somewhere. The Giants have the better track record of backup SS play, but I just did them, so I will choose the Browns guy over the Colts guy

Seventh Round: Express C DeRon Means (206th overall) - To continue choosing a different position and team each round, I'm going with the backup C over a number of DTs and MLBs. If HB Miles Sanders makes great strides in his second season, the Express could have one of the scariest offenses in the league, and if Means gets on the field quite a bit being the top backup, he could get some good development and be in contention of remaining in the league for the remainder of the project.

KCF's Favorite Picks

Because this used to take me 3-4 hours to do when I would do three in a round + honorable mentions + regret picks + several favorite classes, I'm further cutting back this season and just doing one pick per round in a single post and then the one draft class at the end and retiring the regret pick for this season at least. I will avoid picks/draft classes that I was responsible for (okay I realized after typing everything up that I did include one, but I don't feel like changing it).

AI trade

Dolphins receive:
G Austin Blythe (90 overall, 32 years old)
WR Curtis Wasserman (77, 23)
CB Bobby Gooden (75, 31)

Pumpkins receive:
G Michael Onwenu (81, 25)
MLB John Vargas (78, 23)
CB Pete Pickens (78, 24)

The Dolphins will incur a $5.40 mil cap penalty to turn $11.6 mil in cap hits into $11.7 mil in cap hits

The Pumpkins will incur a $3.73 mil cap penalty to turn $15.3 mil in cap hits into $8.85 mil in cap hits

The Dolphins OL has arguably been the second or third-least talented in the past few seasons, and with their cap space heading into draft pick signings, it was unlikely that they would be able to improve upon it much in free agency. While they are giving up on both of their 2nd round picks and a 4th rounder from the previous draft and getting a decent cap hit penalty for next season, 2/3 didn't have a path to playing time to make any sort of impact, and the other was so-so. They do land a 90 G that still has 5 or more seasons left in him, and he's been a great one averaging over 5 blocks per sack allowed over his four seasons with the Pumpkins (which includes a 49 and 15 season). The help mitigate the cap penalty, the Pumpkins also included a slot receiver who will be up for RFA next offseason. They also get a salary-dumped CB back they can easily release if the AI wishes to, and to the Dolphins' benefit will ensure that Marcus Lattimore remains in the CB rotation with Pickens gone.

The Pumpkins were fortunate to be in good cap health, but after matching multiple RFA offers and re-signing a 99 OT, they simply ran out of cap space this offseason. They have a great OL, so even though they have to part with an important member of it, they have some depth to hopefully withstand the loss of Blythe. They also part with an expensive #4 CB and an excess WR further help with cap issues. They get back a G who was unimpressive last season but at least has upside in a different situation, a CB who can compete for the slot job, and a MLB who can compete for the backup job now and probably starting job next season.

The Pumpkins understand the trade parameters, financial impact, history of players involved, and what each team is hoping to achieve. This trade is now official.

Signing Draft Picks

Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind as you read your PM/DM. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows:

Top 5 - Six years
6-10 - Five years
11-32 - Four years
2nd-4th rounds - Three years
5th-7th rounds - One year

Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money.

The deadline to sign your rookies will be Sunday, April 27th at 9 PM ET . Should you idle, I will sign all your rookies to the deals that they are asking for (such a severe punishment I know). If you have roster or financial issues, then I will prioritize players who will fill roster holes and then in descending order of when they were selected until your roster is filled/you run out of money.

Yeah, I don't do the PvP events except maybe play a battle or two. With the non-event solo battles, I have barely scratched the surface there. I would guess that I am somewhere between 10-25% complete. I don't think that they offer cards directly though, so that probably doesn't matter.

With the draft tomorrow, I will post in here and ping in Discord when I will be entering the spreadsheet to be prepared to draft. I wish that I could be more exact with the time other than the 1-3 PM ET range, but it will just depend when I get up and get other stuff done.

I just cleared 3000, and I started the day after the app began...

oh, I see that people are paying for the premium pass to get significantly higher card counts. I feel better now about my lower count lol

I just need less than a week's worth of pack openings in TL until I have enough points to get Heatran and Rotom and move on to Spacetime Showdow again or I suppose return to Shining Revelry

Even if you plan to attend the draft, it would really help me out if you send me something from the previous post.

I cannot stress enough just how important this is to me. Even if you plan to attend the draft, there is only one person guaranteed to be present for the draft, and that's me because otherwise there is no draft. So the draft runs as smoothly as it possibly, I create a spreadsheet where I craft detailed draft plans for all user teams in case I have to draft for them. If I am given a strategy/queue/conditional (especially one that encompasses the entire draft) from a team, then I do not have to waste my time and effort for said team. Please do this as having to come up with draft plans for 15+ user teams would possibly take me 10 hours.

Tomorrow is the day that I will have to set aside however many hours to do this, so please aid in me keeping it at only a couple (I know that 0 is unrealistic)

My final promo count
x10 Bidoof (seven of my last 10 pack openings were of this card)
x6 Floatzel
x6 Ekans
x4 Pawmot
x3 Machamp (I thought that I had more of these, but I guess they were all from the first dozen pack openings)

The Last Case of Benedict Fox (XSX)

I last played this right around release and dropped it soon into it. It looks great visually (performance was so-so), but I don't understand why combat and all its in-game currencies having you upgrade combat weapons and learn combat abilities was included if there was so little combat at all. It's like 90% exploration and puzzle. Now that isn't an issue with me since I love both things, but exploration isn't really fun. Puzzles are pretty good though, but that's really the only thing of substance that the game has going for it in the end.

I mean, I have three blocks of five. The first block is what I originally intended on nominating Day 1. The second block is what I originally intended on nominating Day 2. The final block contains my leading candidates to be replacement noms if I want to sub any from the first two blocks out.

However, I am now intending on moving a song from Day 1 to Day 2 noms and vice-versa.
