I have all the major consoles and I like my Switch, so I am really not trying to do console war stuff. But I really do think Nintendo does not get enough blowback over the joycons. I have had consoles since Atari 2600, multiple consoles for my entire teens and adult life, and in all that time I had one PS4 controller give out one time. Our first set of joycons wore out after light use after six months, and we recently had to replace them again.

Nintendo makes some great games-Mario Wonder is one of my favorite games in the last couple of years. And the Switch is a fun machine. But they really did fans dirty going with cheap controllers. Everyone always showers love on the Switch, but I havent seen much discussion of how bad that issue is.
Nintendo does not get enough blowblack for their online system being terrible. It really shouldn't have taken them until the oled switch to have a ethernet port come standard with their system. Friend codes shouldn't be a thing, I shouldn't have to use a phone app just to talk to someone on my friend's list, and this crap here.......this kind of thing should have stopped with brawl on the wii.

Like come on man, microsoft did it right back in november 2002 with og xbox live's launch date and sony got on board and did it better than the PS2 in 2006 with the PS3.

Can't even use the "well its free" excuse no more because nintendo charges money to play that shit online now, lol.

Eh, sure why not. Its got crossplay so at least there will probably be a few people left if you wanted to jump right into some campaign online groups.

Not much replay value though since not all too many cards, guns skins and character outfits ever got added. Once I got all the trophies for the platinum I was pretty much done with it and deleted.

TopicHow would you rank the Switch among Nintendo's consoles?
Mad-Dogg

Definitely a easy 3rd place for me.

I grew up with both the NES and SNES so I'm aware of way more of these console's great games than what most of the mainstream knows about, and because of this the sheer amount of games I like is still a bit more than the ones I enjoyed like that on the switch. (Like you rarely see games like shatterhand, magic of scheherazade, tiny toons, little ninja brothers, power blade and so on brought up when it comes to great NES games and is usually just the more well-known 1st party or konami and capcom NES stuff).

For me, the 3 undisputed great nintendo systems is 1. SNES, 2. NES and 3. Switch, but the gap between these 3 is stupid small and I won't even attempt to say something like the SNES blows the other 2 away.

I do think the gap with these 3 is way bigger compared to the rest though.

If I had to make a list, it'd look like this:
  1. SNES
  2. NES
  3. Switch
  4. Gamecube
  5. Wii
  6. N64
  7. Wii U

Its a fun as hell game when I play by myself, locally with friends and family or in friends-only online rooms since we are all "ok but not really" and thus ain't taking it all that serious, but I'll be damned if I am bothering playing with randoms in this game.

To be honest, I have always liked all the other vs marvel games ever so slightly more for 2 reasons.....the soundtracks is definitely better than marvel vs capcom 2's stuff, and having 6 buttons is better for certain character's moves since the 4 buttons in marvel vs capcom 2 kind of screwed them over.

I like to imagine that since marvel vs capcom 2 was developed in the arcades with the same kind of hardware the dreamcast uses that is the exact reason the change from having 6 attack buttons to 4 happened. (Because of the dreamcast controller only ever having 6 to work with and the triggers had to be reserved for the team snap attacks).

I was more about soul calibur in the arcades myself......then once that better than the arcade version in everyway dreamcast launch version came out I don't remember playing a fighting game in the arcades ever again, lol.

The only way I would feel excited for a new smash is if nintendo keeps all the current partnerships they have and manages to keep every single character and music that is in ultimate now for the next game.

They blew their load on ultimate so much that nothing would ever pass it up for me. It has pikachu vs simon belmont vs joker vs sephiroth vs solid snake vs mega man vs banjo kazooie vs kazuya, and once you get video game nuttiness like this its hard to go back to a clean sleight, lol.

I was operating on similar logic. This 5 use super stronk fire blast move is my WHAM option, and this fire spin will totally trap them while I burn them to death with flamethrower! My fire type makes all my fire moves like, stupid stronger, and I will use slash to really hurt the things I can't burn. Its just genius!

Man I can't even use age as an excuse I was.....*check red and blue's north america release date again*.....15 years old and just became a freshman in highschool when those games came out here. I was just a fucking dumbass, lmao.

7 - probably Vincent. Entirely optional and has no actual role in the current plot events, with only a tiny bit of side content dedicated to him. Yuffie has more memorable moments and at least has the Wutai events, even if she's similarly unimportant to the plot.
On paper I agree with you, but then its like in general vincent always has been propped up since being associated with hojo, lucrecia and sephiroth even in the og game where he was optional is a pretty huge deal (like, not for the in-game story, more like just a huge deal for the fanbase in general), and then he actually gets his own lead game in the next console generation. Vincent is popular enough among the fanbase just because of that relation to bad boy sephy's mommy that we all already know he is going to be a even bigger deal once that final 3rd party for remake and rebirth comes out.

(And I wouldn't even be a bit surprised if dirge of cerebrus gets a quick and easy port like crisis core did. Just have to fix up that ass gameplay which I imagine can't be all too hard).

FF7 - cait sith. In the original anyway......remake and rebirth is doing a good enough job with boosting the characters that cait/reeve can have a whole lot more to do in the final section of this 3 game remake project.
FF8 - This one is tougher. Its a smaller party of 6, but from what I remember each party member had a important section where they did stuff. Zell being the badass that could fight without a weapon thus he lead the party out of the prison to get theirs, irving covering their escape from the prison and talking about the orphanage stuff, selphie was doing stuff and helping squall stay calm during the garden battle stuff despite her also dealing with her original garden getting blown up, etc. Might have to go with quistis on this one.
FF9. Def. quina
FF10 lol kimari

Never cared to play 12, my ps3's data got corrupted so I never got to finish 13, and I only ever played like 20 minutes of 15 so I have nothing for those.

Depends on what kind of fan you are. If you always enjoyed toriyama's silly antics alongside the martial arts, always like those downtime segments when the gang is just living life and always like to see more of this then yeah it will probably be good.

Can't deny that playing world of warcraft like not too much longer after it first released was freakin' nuts. The trip I made with my best friend and brother just to do scarlet monstary instance as an alliance player was a actual adventure. Actually creeping by higher level horde players to get on boats and whatnot, lol. The actual danger going through stranglethorn vale. I was a druid player so all I had was my travel cat form to go around until I can get that level 40 mount. No flying mounts so everything had to be boots on the ground and hauling ass if opposite faction players is feeling frisky if you are in their territory.

Vanilla wow really was one of those "you hide to be there" type of experiences.

Not really, lol (at least to me anyway). Bloodborne all I ever understood is that there is some lovecraft horror shit going on, a hunter must hunt, eyes on the inside and killing a moon thing great one. Now I ascended to a higher being slug great one. Yay. Dark souls is like, linking a flame, and everyone else lost their minds I think. You repair a ring in elden ring, and all these assholes lost their minds too. Every npc is probably going to die. Maybe, but most likely.

I don't know, combing through item descriptions to piece together the narrative doesn't really do it for me. I read up on why miyazaki himself loves doing it and I think that its neat, its just not for me personally. I'm pretty much into this stuff 100 percent for the gameplay.

The only times I found a from software game's story actually understandable without having to do 3 hour fan wiki reading sessions is sekiro's and like, old-school tenchu. (I think the company acquire was mainly responsible for tenchu 1 and 2, but from software is also listed as a developer for part 1).

Yeah I can't lie I got a little boost to muh confidence there. I feel old now, lol.

Also I just want to share that I fucked around, found out and got game over'd by some of the first slimes you fight when you start the game.

I picked hard to start off since I played many a jrpg and ain't scared, so lets see if I'll regret my decision.

Like many first time kingdom hearts players I'm sure I picked the sword and chucked the wand I believe.

But yeah, picking wand and tossing sword is so much better in the remix re-release that the kingdom hearts ports is based on.

I tried for mine way later than that, and I indeed was starting to feel miserable.

(I had driver's ed in highschool and was making great progress in that, but I got sick pretty bad and had to be hospitalized for like a month. I never could complete this class since I was out of school so long and had a lot of catching up to do in general).

I put if off for some years since I usually had my older bro and my parents to mooch rides from, but it did come to a time where there is a breaking point...

There is going to come a time when its like, 9:30 pm on a chill saturday night, and you have the largest craving for some krispy kreme donuts. Like, you must have fresh hot-light donuts right the hell now. Parents are up there in years and thus they start to chill theirselves and relax way earlier in the day.....older sibling that you relied on a lot has their own family to take care of and works a lot to where you hardly get to meet up in the day now and thus tired as hell when they finally get home to their own house. The only option left is door dash, grub hub, or other services.....and those charge minimums to get "free" delivery (while they eat you alive with "service" fees and might as well say mandatory tips because ain't no one bringing shit to you without some kind of tip. Also prices are jacked up a little in general when you order through the door dash/grub hub like menus. You are now paying some jack-asses at least 18 bucks to bring you some goddamn donuts.

18 dollars.......for donuts. No. This can't go on.

This was my reality living in rural south carolina and with barely no public transportation to speak of. You seriously need a car to get anywhere over here, and its spaced out to the point where even something like a bike wouldn't cut it.

It really did get to that point where I said no more because I must have my donuts and I must have them when I want, and way cheaper than I was getting them lol. Also late night or early morning driving just to clear your head and enjoy the breeze going wherever the hell you want is a nice feeling.

*Also, you will start to feel bad when you start to see all your little nephews and neices growing up and driving by the time they are like 15 and 16 while your old ass still putting it off. I got 5 siblings and its happened to me a lot, lol. Kids I have held since they were babies are out their getting their transportation on because they have their lives to live and jobs to work, and its like ok I had to stop putting this off.*

Ryu from breath of fire 3.

Its part of why I want breath of fire to come back as a series so bad.....I feel the potential of having a jrpg main character that can swap between different dragon forms as you get various dragon genes has yet to be to be unleashed (or that neat system in breath of fire 2 where you can fuse with your allies with the shamans). We have the power with modern game consoles and the PC, lol.

I can understand needing TV speakers to be good with the budget or more middle of the road price range TVs, but for those that is dropping near 1K or on up for a higher tier TV thats the group I don't understand actually worrying about or using TV speakers.

I just sort of assume if someone is dropping this kind of money on a OLED like the LG C2, samsung S90C/S95C or a miniled like the samsung QN90A/B/C or especially the 85 inch sony X95L (TV is a good bit above 2K dollars) then they must already own either some headphones, a soundbar, or a sound system.

Now if you really want dumb and can stretch this to "since manga and anime get video games made of the IP then using anime is fair game" then god damn gundam should win this one easily.

Gundam has a guy named full frontal and that shit is taken 100 percent seriously.

FF5's butz (full name butz klauser, which you know damn well people outside of japan would call him butts closer).

Bartz is apparently a localization switcheroo because they knew butz sounds dumb in english, and they were right lol. Bartz also sounds dumb so either way he just has an unfortunate name.

EDIT: Oh shit, I completely forgot butz is from the town of lix. So butts closer from the town of licks......you cannot make this shit up.

Physical games still give you more consumer rights compared to digital when it comes to video game consoles. You can't really compare console digital games to PC since steam gives PC players more rights when it comes to this kind of thing. Consoles really need to have multiple digital store fronts (not like, amazon, best buy, gamestop and whatnot. I mean multiple storefronts actually built into the consoles theirselves. No more of this ps store, microsoft store, and eshop only shit).

Like these fuckers will completely shut down old console digital stores and so many games that never got ported anywhere else or got a physical release will now just disappear into the ether. Only way stuff like castlevania rebirth can be played again is via emulation.

It sucks because even if I buy a decent amount of physical console games still (just picked up my steelbook SMT 5 vengeance on PS5 not too long ago) I know that physical console games (at least on the playstation and most definitely on the xbox. I'm sure nintendo still does pretty good with their own at least) is definitely way more niche now.

I noticed playing FF7R I would randomly get my ass handed to me in a standard mob battle then turn around and steamroll a boss. There was no rhyme or reason to the challenge of the battles.
If you are still on the first playthrough of the game playing on dynamic mode can get pretty spicy.

*There is nothing important behind those black bars but I still put them up just in case the TC wants to know absolutely nothing about rebirth.*

Like you said you can usually be fine doing whatever in most random encounters and boss fights, but there really is that every other random encounter or boss that can get you to sit the hell up if you are casually playing while lazing about and getting a quick game over, lol. The jehova fight on the boat and that new boss they made for hojo at costa del sol is the main 2 I can remember actually making me try mad hard to not die.

There is that arena fight at the gold saucer that pops up pretty quick that the game I'm assuming doesn't want you attempting until your average party level is like 40...got wiped for like a hour trying to do it at level 36. Did eventually pull it off at 37 after like, 20 minutes.
*This fight. Like god damn I had to sweat.*

Also I'm not even going to deny it....I got a game over and got wrecked by some of those sandworms roaming about in the corel desert, lol
