Thanks.

I've been out playing poker and drinking fairly heavily, so I should finish this off tomorrow. My luck's been bad enough tonight, and there's no bluffing in Pokemon (well, against AIs at least)

XIX -- The Elite Four Falls, pt. 2

My guess proved right, as Glacia sent out a Jynx and a Delibird (note, Delibird's base stat total was boosted up to 600, 100s in everything (Mew)) STAN targeted the Delibird with a Rock Throw, and MURPHY unleashed a SURF attack, which did reasonable damage to both. However, the Rock Throw missed. Jynx used a Psychic attack on MURPHY, doing minor damage that was immediately rectified by a healing Present from the Delibird. STAN's next Rock Throw did not miss, slaying the Delibird. MURPHY took a bit more chip damage from the Jynx. A Glalie replaced the Delibird. After a heated skirmish, both the Glalie and the Jynx were left slain (Critical hit from Surf finished Jynx. missed a rock throw on Glalie -- STAN didn't repeat that mistake, however, and killed it with the next)... however, MURPHY was now down in the red. The opponents were a Lapras and a Walrein... hmm.

NICK replaced MURPHY as STAN unleashed a powerful Psychic attack against Walrein, doing significant damage. However, he ate a vicious Hydro Pump that dropped him into the low red. NICK took an Iattack that dropped him to a little better than 50%. NICK landed a critical Aerial Ace that finished off the Walrein, as PERIL replaced STAN, immediately eating an Ice Beam from the Lapras that dropped him to about 30%. A Cloyster was Glacia's final pokemon. I decided to keep PERIL in, hoping that he'd giga drain enough HP from the Cloyster to survive and not wanted to risk either of my dragons, praying his knack for survival would see him through another day. NICK continued to wound the Lapras with Aerial Ace as PERIL drained the life force from the Cloyster -- not enough, however, only getting filled to the 60% range. The Lapras lined him up and unleashed... a Hydro Pump... thank goodness. One Aerial Ace and a Giga Drain later, and the ice lord had fallen. A harrowing battle, to be sure.

I entered the final room, and prepared to face what I figured would be the Dragon Trainer. GTM and MURPHY would lead this battle.

Surprise surprise, Drake led with a... Gyrados (?) and a Flygon. MURPHY quickly dispatched the Gyrados with a Thunderbolt, while GTM narrowly missed out on a one hit Dragon Claw kill on the Flygon, leaving it with what must've been sub-5HP. The Flygon responded with some piddly attack that left GTM in the green. Kingdra replaced the Gyrados. Switching up targets, MURPHY annihilated the freshly full restored Flygon with an Ice Beam, and GTM heavily wounded the Kingdra. GTM ate a Hydro Pump in return. A Dragonite swapped in, and was immediately scoured from the skies by an Ice Beam. GTM had apparently had enough of that Kingdra, as he slew it with a critical Dragon Claw. The final two foes were a Salamence and a Altaria. The Salamence met with the same fate as his Flying/Dragon cousin, freezing midair and shattering upon impact with ground due to MURPHY's pinpoint Ice Beaming. GTM wounded the Altaria, and took a wound in turn, dropping yellows. No matter, as MURPHY continued his cold blooded Ice Beaming, finishing the battle... certainly earned his keep there.

The Elite Four had proven quite easy with the exception of Glacia... how will the Champion fare against my well trained squad of slayers? I used up most of the remainder of my potions to heal up, and prepared to face the final challenge.

XVIII -- The Elite Four Fall, pt. 1

Gather up all my potions and such from the PC for healing between fights -- good thing I've been stockpiling them. Note I have four rare candies, but decide against juicing my squad.

I figure a strong starting lineup would be GTM and ORACLEPRAM... a strong single target attacker and a strong multitarget attacker.

The first foe is Sidney, who leads with level 82 (same with every other pokemon mentioned) Shiftry and Mightyena -- looks like dark type. My warriors quickly prove their supremacy, as GTM slaughters the Shiftry with a critical Aerial Ace, and a Houndoom is switched in only too be instantly killed by an Earthquake from ORACLEPRAM that also heavily wounds the Mightyena. A Tyranitar replaces the fallen. GTM eyes up this new foe with disdain, and crushes the Tyranitar with a mighty Brick Break as Sidney Full Restored the Mightyena. ORACLEPRAM unleashed another Earthquake, once again heavily wounding the Mightyena and the freshly switched in Absol. This pattern of Brick Break and Earthquake led to the crushing of the two, along with Crawdaunt. The dragons proved to be a mighty alliance. Both lost about 60 hp during the ordeal.

Entered the next room, noting the purple ground. Seemed like it would be psychic type -- dangerous, but tending towards squishy towards physical attacks. I figured the old speedy overpowering alliance of GTM and NICK would prove useful here.

I realized my mistake as Phoebe sent out her first two pokemon, Banette and Umbreon. Ghost and Dark, eh... even better than psychic. NICK quickly slew Banette with a Shadow Ball, while GTM did the same with Umbreon and Brick Break. NICK and GTM proceeded to gleefully hack apart a Gengar, Sableye, Dusclops, and Mawile with ease (note, Sableye and Mawile both had their base stats boosted to 480 in this mod). Nothing to it so far. Minor wounds were sustained by both.

The next room had an icy floor -- this one would be an easy guess, Ice! Leaving GTM in would be suicidal I feel, and NICK would surely be at risk. ORACLEPRAM also had a x4 weakness to ICE... and PERIL a x2 -- Looks like STAN and MURPHY were up.

XVI -- Through Victory Road, and final preparations

Couple reasonable trainer battles throughout Victory Road, but nothing my party can't handle. Ran into Wally again, who almost killed STAN with a Hydro Pump/something else combo that brought him to two HP, but I prevailed. Found a Psychic TM along the way. Benched ORACLEPRAM for the trip through and brought RAKAPUTRA out for Flash/Strength duties. Catch GENNY the Pupitar along the way.

After making my way to the Pokemon League, I flew back to the move forgetter and got rid of Waterfall on MURPHY and replaced it with Psychic, giving it quite the arsenal of special attacks. Gave Earthquake and Giga Drain to ORACLEPRAM, and replaced quick attack on NICK with Return. Gave Calm Mind to STAN, though I'm not a fan of bulking up so I probably won't use it. Replaced Cosmic Power, so no big loss.

Then, headed back into Victory Road to level my party up to be able to face the grind of all 4 elite four and the Champion. I figured they'd be in the 80s, so figured 85 should do the trick while not overpowering myself.

Almost lost PERIL to a critical Rollout when I wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing -- 15 HP. Fortunately Giga Drain fixed that right up...

Side note, MURPHY and GTM take a ludicrous amount of XP to level up compared to the rest, especially STAN.

The Elite Four, and the Champion, await!

Party

Good luck with the E4, I'm curious to see what nasty tricks they have up their sleeves in this game. You've got a pretty strong team built up though, so you should be fine.

I'm more worried about the Champion fight at the end, hah. Inevitable dragon guy could be trouble too -- you're the only guy I have with an Ice attack, and the doubles format means you'll always be at risk.

XV -- Gym Champion

Head out west of the town, which turns out to be a water currents puzzle. The currents eventually take me to Slateport, with pit stops along the way for various trainers and lvl 60 Tentacool. None of the trainers really threaten me, PERIL and MURPHY dealing with the majority as they were mostly swimmers and such.

After doing this a couple times, it dawns on me that this isn't the actual way to go, and I head out northeast of Pacifidlog. This is successful, as I find the Sky Pillar. PANTHERA the Snorlax joins up, holding some leftovers. Excellent... GTM had needed an item for some time. Battle through the tower, the only scare being an Exploding Claydol that drops ORACLEPRAM to 20 HP. At the top Rayquaza peaces out. I take this as my queue to return to Sootopolis.

Rayquaza scares off Groudon and Kyogre, leaving a town in awe -- and a gym waiting my challenge! Turns out it's a water gym, led by Juan. Shouldn't be too much trouble -- PERIL and MURPHY have been slaying water pokemon without remorse for a while now. After defeating the horde of randoms inside (like 12, holy), I challenge Juan.

My prediction turns out to be true, as PERIL assisted by MURPHY drop the opposition without mercy. PERIL takes a Toxic early, but his constant Giga Draining keeps him topped up. MURPHY gets confused by a water pulse, and was relieved by GTM. After the Toxic damage was starting to prove too much, another confusing Water Pulse makes the decision to get NICK in the fight to relieve PERIL, and the combo of NICK and GTM once again go to work. Juan's ~Lvl 74 didn't have a chance. Receive the Water Pulse TM, and the ability to use Waterfall out of combat -- perfect, since I just got that HM, and during my exploration saw where I had to use it.

Hopefully this party will continue to survive until the Elite Four. Victory Road awaits...

I'll throw my name in for whatever you next grab that needs a name!

I'll take that to mean you don't want Zubat. Poor Zubat :(

XIV -- Hunting for Rayquaza

Dive turns out to be very easy to find... just in Steven's house in the same town. Explore underwater a bit, catching KENSHIN the Clamperl and discovering a blue shard, which I swiftly whisk to a hunters house in trade for a Water Stone, which I promptly use on MURPHY. The force is now truly assembled...

Return to the Abandoned Ship since I remember there was a spot to dive... and find another Water Stone -_-

Continue to explore, capturing ZEE-EX the Octillery on Route 128. Drop into Sootopolis, where a Black Belt teaches GTM Brick Break -- woo expanding type coverage.

While diving, I discover the Seafloor Cavern, which happens to need Strength. Take a bit of a break, NICK -- We require the Strength of RYO! Capture JANEDOE the Zubat inside. Burn through all the Team Aqua goons without too much effort -- Archie has some frightening Pokemon (Lvl 75 Dragonite, Dodrio, Aerodactyl, and Metagross), but MURPHY annihilates them all with its newfound power. Kyogre peaces out. I also found an Earthquake TM inside -- debating between giving it to GTM or ORACLEPRAM.

Return to Sootopolis, where Groudon and Kyogre are having a battle. Why can't I just beat them down -_- Go to the Cave of Origin, and discover I need to go to the Sky Pillar to find Rayquaza, who stopped the two from fighting in ancient times. NICK rejoins my party here.

Go on a long surfing jaunt, covering multiple routes, all of which give me Tentacools which I simply kill; already have one, and have hordes of water pokemon besides. Struggling for names as is! PERIL does most of the butcher's work along the way, his Giga Drain absorbing the lifeforce of several trainers pokemon. ORACLEPRAM has a close call facing a Gyrados, eating a critical and getting reduced to 2 hp. Another Seaking attempts to Horn Drill me, but misses. Reach Pacifidlog Town (what a terrible name), and heal up as one last pitstop before heading to the Pillar.
