They also could have combined ACB/R into one game, trimming the fat from both, but easier money the other way!

Eh, I'd rather they skipped over Brotherhood all together and just integrated their additions into Revelations, but "oh well."

See, what's interesting is that in ACR I was kinda ready to take the approach you did, but they gave me just enough about Desmond and his role that I was most definitely going to stick around to the end.

Also, its largely why ME2 is my favorite in the ME series: it's focus on individual characters rather than an overarching plot is what kept me going.

To be fair, they could have added the Altair levels as DLC to Brotherhood and not released a full game around that concept.

Not that I'm complaining, since Revelations is probably still my favorite AC game, but its not like at that point they needed Ezio to stick around for that.

To be fair, Halo 3 had commercials at the friggin' Super Bowl prior to it coming out.

I think the CoD series has supplanted it as the most inescapable gaming series when it comes to modern advertising.

So you've only played one Final Fantasy game ever, HM?

Final Fantasy hasn't been a continuous story for four years.

So? Up until Revelations, Altair only had one game and the only continuation from the beginning to end was Desmond, the guy you don't care about.

Also, look at Revelations itself. Yes, it carries over Ezio, but really who else? Understandable that 2 and Brotherhood have a strong connection, but Revelations feels pretty disconnected from the previous titles. Hell, they don't reference any of the previous two game's characters save the letters to Claudia and Ezio's minstrel songs.

So, is it really that different when you've had a whole new setting with whole new characters and only one carry over in the main character? I mean, if Ezio suddenly time traveled to the American Revolution would AC3 suddenly become an amazing game.

...

OK, yes, it would, but it's still going to be amazing without him.

Is it? Halo 4 seems rather low-key for a Halo game so far. Mainly because I haven't seen anything on TV like I did for Halo: Reach. Though obviously closer to launch that'll change.

AC3's setting is a far bigger contributor to record preorders than anything Desmond Miles. That, and it's a numbered entry after years without a numbered entry.

Years? I guess, but it's been less than 3 years. That's like saying "We've gone YEARS without a Halo game." And Halo: Reach sold pretty well despite not having a number. >_>

Yeah, but Desmond isn't exactly a negative, either, as HM seems to think. And ultimately, most people who want to see the story resolved are fine with running around as Desmond for a bit.

I just think it's silly to go "welp, series over" based on Connor replacing Ezio, and this is coming from a guy who's favorite character this generation is Ezio and is completely underwhelmed by Connor (even more than pre-ACR Altair, to be honest).

Well, if Ezio was that important and Miles wasn't, I don't think AC3 would have had 10x the pre-orders ACR did.

As much as people seem to love Ezio, there's a lot who are also burnt out on him and want a new protagonist in general.

While I agree that no one is clamoring for a Desmond Miles only game (well, I take that back as I know a few who want a modern AC game), I'd say that all things considered his role is too important in the series for him to be tossed aside even if he doesn't have a ravenous fanbase.

That's an unfair comparison because the first PotC movie wasn't Will Turner and Captain Bland Sparrow.

Like, if Ezio was introduced in the first game it would make sense to marginalize Desmond!

I would have agreed after the first game, but by the second game they were so interwoven that I couldn't separate the two without hurting the experience of Ezio.

So now I've largely accepted Desmond's role and want to see how things play out in the end.

But those parts matter the most! They are literally why you are even running around Italy as Ezio!

Whether Ezio got revenge for his family or not really isn't as high on the cosmic scale of importance as it was getting the message to Desmond Miles.

And it's not like I like Desmond, but honestly it's time for him to step up and do his thing. Also, I can control a boat and have PotC naval battles.

Except for, you know, the whole "what the f*** are Those Who Came Before" and "how the f*** are we going to save the world?"

ACR did a good job concluding Altair and Ezio's stories, but kinda left the overall plot with even more questions (if that was even possible). And I want to save the damn world as Blandmond Miles, dammit!

This is why I don't care for AC3!

I am going to miss Ezio a lot, but I'll be God damned if AC3 doesn't look amazing in terms of setting, gameplay, etc.

Really, if the main character is a snoozer, I think I can get over it if everything else is as amazing as it looks.

To be fair, under the current cycle they did wipe out the (supposedly) strongest Reaper in Sovereign.

But really, if a giant machine shows up and says "play nice" as much as we'd like to believe civilization is reasonable about this stuff, it would also be perceived as a threat by a lot of groups. I mean, it's easy to explain the catalyst's logic (whether you agree with it or not) to one person and get their opinion on it and let them make a decision. It's entirely different to get multiple species/races/ages/etc. to all agree that "yep, this is the best route."

There will always be dissent. It's probably why the Starchild even gave Shepard the options, rather than just polling the available people or something. >_>

btw is there even a downside to Control? Seems kinda weird and lame that The Illusive Man was correct all along. Synthetics are spared, neither synthetics or organics are altered against their will, and the spirit of Shep eternally controls the Reapers, which are now the galaxy's ultimate labor force.

The downside is that if the Starchild is right, then Shepard is stuck trying to solve the "synthetics will kill all organics if left unchecked."

Which, obviously, Shepard could nip in the bud, but it's possible that organics stupidly build synthetics that not even the Reapers could defeat, and it's pretty likely that someone out there could hate the Shepareaper enough that he'd go ahead and do something like that.

Also, playing Universe Police probably isn't as fun as it sounds. I mean, trying to solve disputes and stuff seems like it could be really tricky. What if the Reapers side with the wrong group.

While it may be better (I guess) I don't see it being without a downside.
