Hey Digi, anything new going on with the site? Just wondering since it's getting close and I haven't heard from you in awhile.

Yep. Sorry, I was emailing some of the other guys about the logo sketches. I'll loop you in to see your thoughts before I get back to my designer. Things are on-track. Not for June 23, but for July 1, I'm thinking. I'm loving the response I got from B8, too.

If you listen to thundersheep, make sure you listen specifically to what he says. That Envy line is essentially their only good offering right now. Their lower end are among the worst today.

Avoid Acer. Easily the worst brand. Dell is seriously hit or miss. Samsung, Lenovo, Asus and Sony put out the highest quality in the laptop space right now. A few models from other brands are good here and there too.

I think I'll go with the Creatives. The Grado sound tempting if it weren't for the open backing, but that's a deal breaker. Thanks for your help!

And you've been to Wimbledon? Gah I'm jealous. Definitely one of my life goals is to go to the French Open.

The Grado just have this fast paced, aggressive sound. People call them the gateway drug of audiophiles. But they're not great for bass since they're open backed. I, however, became an audiophile after listening to the Creatures.

And yeah I was credentialed for Wimbledon. Let me know what you think of the Creative.

I dunno, I just want something that's good all around. I listen to rock, pop, indie, folk, country, blues, funk, soul, hip-hop, electronic, chiptune, dubstep, outsider, classic, etc. Pretty much the only genre I don't listen to much of is metal. Hell, I listen to a lot of audio books and talk radio archives via headphones as well.

I just started a new job, and my cubicle is directly underneath the company's gym, and the stairs leading up to it don't have a door to muzzle the sound. I've only been working there for about a week and I've already heard Call Me Maybe far too many times coming from the stereo up there. So something that insulates against sound pretty well even when I don't have anything playing would be nice, which I imagine means over-ear.

Well there's noise cancelling headphones, but I don't recommend active noise cancellation. It's often at the expense of sound quality. It sounds to me like you're most interested in an over-ear can that doesn't leak sound out. As far as not hearing things when you're not playing music, that's not likely to be accomplished with good sound quality, but we can definitely find you a good closed can to block out sounds and stop sounds from escaping, too.

The Creative Aurvana Live! that I mentioned fit that bill. They're a closed set with a lot of accuracy and excellent bass. They've got a great sound for any genre and it's why they're my favorite headphones today. Their only con, in my mind, is the fact that they have a short cord and aren't as portable as I'd like. Also, if you have huge ears, they might not be fully circumaural (over-ear), but they are for everyone I've seen. On top of that, they're also one of the most comfortable headphones I've owned. Most recognize them as one of the best values in headphones these days. They're based on the Denon D1000 headphones, one of the old favorites of audiophiles that was discontinued (amid much outrage) for a lesser headphone. Creative bought the design from the original manufacture and made these. Creative's other headphones are actually ... quite poor. These are not. They're great with indie and folk, and not poor with anything. - http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340078979&sr=8-1&keywords=creative+aurvana+live

If those don't do it for you, there's the Sony MDR-V6. They're like the CAL!, there's just less emphasis on the bass. They're much more neutral and level - very studio-esque. - http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V6-Monitor-Series-Headphones/dp/B00001WRSJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340079010&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+mdr+v6

I haven't heard these personally, but they're on my list. I've heard that they're great headphones - very comfortable with a wide sound signature for all genres. Very well-reviewed. I believe they are fully over the ear, but I'm not positive. - http://www.amazon.com/KRK-KNS6400-Studio-Headphones/dp/B004ARSMXQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1340079271&sr=1-1&keywords=KRK+KNS+6400

You might also like Grado headphones, but they're open backed. Meaning they don't offer any isolation - you hear everything going on outside (unless music is playing at a reasonable level), but also everyone else around you hears the music too. Not at the same volume, of course, but definitely not a good option if you blast music around other people. They're also on-ear and not over-ear, but I just get the feeling you'd enjoy the Grado house sound.

If none of those do it for you, let me know, and I can come up with more.

From: Princess Anri | #142

Chrome is about 10 times faster than Firefox, uses only a fraction of the memory, and doesn't hassle you with pointless updates every time you open it. It also doesn't crash, because every page and plugin is its own process so that one website crashing doesn't wreck the browser.

That is also the bad thing about it though. If you want to have 50 tabs open, your task manager throws a google party. You'll want to keep Firefox around for those times.

Well you can wrap all of the Chrome stuff into one process as opposed to keeping Firefox around, but yeah. Also, I'd disagree that it uses a fraction of the memory. That is entirely dependent on usage. But it's definitely faster, and in my opinion, better.

Remembering keywords for something I in all honesty don't use that often certainly isn't time saved! Also DP I've been meaning to do this for a while, that was just the straw tbh.

I much prefer the download viewer on this thing, though. Better than Firefox's popup window.

That's why I said "eventually!" CTRL+T, !gi [search query here] is much faster than opening up a new tab, selecting Google Images and then going back to the keyboard to type my query.

The default search engine is Google. Why would you want to use anything else?

I regularly use more specialist search engines.

An illegal one for "acquiring" things, youtube, amazon. There are other non-google sites that have search engines, you know

See but I think that's not really in the spirit of the word "search engine." I think a search "engine" is well-defined as something like google, bing and duck duck go. Site searches are understandably separate from that, but I do understand what you mean now.

Is tap water really that bad? In none of the places I've lived (coastal Delaware, New York City, South Florida for a month), have I ever had any second thoughts about drinking the tap water. Have I just gotten lucky or are people being irrationally scared?

Tap water is pretty bad. Everybody should buy filters, especially given how cheap they've become. I mean come on, I've lived in two different places (one in CA one in OH) where there was actually city-wide warnings of the tap water being un-drinkable for a couple months due to substantial fecal matter contamination. The warnings came about three weeks after it all started, by the way.

The default search engine is Google. Why would you want to use anything else?

As a known Google fanatic, I recently switched to Duck Duck Go. The results are just so ... poor lately. And Google is adding more and more sway into paid results and then they added personal results that still mess things up even if you turn them off. Search should be neutral outside of fighting spam. But what really did it for me was the latest SEO update. It completely wrecked things. Search engines were really skewed and nowhere near accurate. It's better now, but they continue to be spotty. It's still something good for random use here and there, but it's no longer the powerful multi-tool it once was.

Right click and edit search engines. I imagine that means you're going to switch to Duck Duck Go, the best search engine in existence!

Are you also saying that in order to switch search engines I have to go into "edit search engines"? Whereas with Firefox you could just immediately open up a dropdown menu and pick the one you needed? Because if there's no faster way to switch search engines I'm switching back tbqh, that is trash.

Of course there is. I'm sure there's ten extensions that do it. Personally, I just type in what I need. If I'm doing google image search I do !gi and then my search. !bi for bing images. !w for wikipedia. But that's a feature of Duck Duck Go, not Chrome. I think.

The one in the middle, with the "search" magnifying glass, is what I want rid of. As you can see, my bookmarks are above it.

Whatever that is, that's something installed on top of Chrome. Some add-on you may have installed with some random program that you never saw until now because you just now got Chrome. Check extensions and check your add/remove programs for a toolbar.

I think.

There was an UPROAR for Versus and I have no idea why. Sure, I liked watching the fights on there, but people were close to rioting over it. But not any of these other channels. So weird.
