I am a very main character oriented person. The things I love are, almost without exception, carried by very strong lead characters. If I were to do a top fifty fictional character list (again) I am sure less than five of them would be anything but a main character. It is just how I am programmed. There is no denying the beauty of the animation though.

6. Part of your World (The Little Mermaid) – Nominated by Pokewars

One of the best versions of the song is literally sung by a guy. That guy's voice blows my mind every time.

I have many misgivings about Ariel as a character and about The Little Mermaid as a whole, but I am going to leave those thought at the door for once. This song is amazingly beautiful. The singing is just breathtaking. I have said a lot that theme is very important to me, and this is one of the big contradictions to that on this list. The theme isn't anything special to me here, and that is partially because of my opinion of Ariel's personality, but for this one scene she manages to make me forget any misgivings I have of her with pure singing talent. For this one scene the character of Ariel completely steals my heart with her beautiful voice. It is no wonder at all why Ursula would want this in exchange for anything. I could listen to this song as my background music for the rest of my life and I would never get sick of it. It is a tribute to the talent on display here that the scene could make me suspend my feelings.

It isn't just the singing ability though, it is the emotion that is on display with it as well. Every line aches with a need to escape, to go someplace else. You can feel Ariel's sorrow and yearning in every note. The song slowly builds until it cannot build any longer and Ariel just belts with everything she had and it is one of the most powerful and iconic moments in Disney's long history. Disney has always had a remarkable talent to have their songs match the scene they are in, so as the song builds Ariel rises until she can go no further, and slowly she comes down gently just as the song itself does.

Yeah, that sums up why this song is this high. Ariel just slays me in this scene. As a general rule of thumb I prefer female vocalists and she's one of the very best in all of Disney. Jodi Benson could sing me to death and I wouldn't refuse. I think this important to note because unlike a lot of songs this is here almost purely because of how awesome the voice is. Some things in this world are just too strong to deny, too potent to be held back, and her voice is one of them in my mind.

The scene itself is quite good as well. It is simple but effective, and showcases a lot of Ariel's inner feelings and her desperation. I love when she plays with Flounder when talking about feet, it is very cute!

I won't say much about the movie and Ariel but let's just say it may not be in my top 20 of the Disney canon and leave it at that. I just find the movie very unsatisfying despite it having a few quality songs, and one all time great. Ariel is a character I will never be able to appreciate for all of the reasons I have been in love with Belle for 20 years now. I try for these to not be too negative though so I am just going to gloss over this and move on!

First off let us congratulate Genesis for a successful Week (Month, something like that) 3 entry about evil! She got a dazzling first place and we should applaud her for a job well done.

Now that you all hate me for various reasons, time for another week of Writing!

This week the theme is time. Time is always going, always flowing, and can be the subject of much interest in a variety of genres and spins. There is traveling through time, there is the passage of time, and there is perspectives on time. We never have enough of it, and when enough of it passes people send me evil glares for not updating various projects! Just ask the poor Naruto fanfiction readers who had to wait nine months on my writer's block. I could have given them a baby in that time frame!

For this week stories should be no longer than 4,000 words and all entries are due by July 17th. If I suffer any delays to that I will commit ritual suicide to attempt to restore my honor.

And Scar is the best thing from this movie. I feel the need to bring it back to him because, well, I spent so much time talking about everything else when really this writeup was supposed to be about his song and his character, but I got carried away quite a lot with my obvious love for this movie. I know that people all have their favorites and to some # 7 for this song may be seen as an insult of some kind. Please don't view it that way at all, this is such a great and on point song. One last thing, I love how the movie followed the theme of Be repared. From lush pridelands, to yellow desert, to fiery red climatic battle scene. It's a nice touch and shows Disney's impressive attention to detail.

So...uh... any questions?

Simba starts off a little slow, but we were all a bit bratty as children. I have always loved Disney's dark foreshadowing of Simba's fate with the song “I Just Can't Wait to be King.” It is a very lighthearted song until you think that for him to be King his father has to be dead and then, well, that is a bit of a funny way to look at it. I don't really follow others when they talk about the song but I've always thought that this was intentional on Disney's part. That level of theme below the surface really is what many of the great Disney songs have. I love the way he pounced on Nala when she was trying to eat poor Pumbaa, it was so awesome. And then Simba and Nala start talking like little girls and it is awesome. And then Simba misapplies the sacred Hakuna Matata phrase and Nala gets mad, and then we get to see God Mode Simba do some work after some conflict resolution from Rafiki.

I know I've called a lot of scenes from this movie great but the scene with Rafiki as he rekindles the fire within Simba gives me goosebumps. Even after all of these years I still get goosebumps, and I just can't help it. It is powerful. The emotional vulnerability in Simba's voice as he tells his father not to leave is fantastic voice acting. Simba repeating Scar's earlier words to him during the climatic scene was just amazing. I have to hold myself back from clapping at how brilliant that is even after all of these years.

Timon and Pumbaa are just unbelievably great. So brave, so funny, I could do a whole post talking about them if I didn't want to try to keep this write ups to some sort of length max.

Rafiki deserves his own mention for one of my favorite lines of the movie: The king... has returned.” This movie, I confess, makes me gush way too much. I just love everything about it. Everything. There are no exceptions. I know this has turned into more of a writeup for the movie than the song but god damnit while the song is great the movie just makes me bow down before its majesty.

The Hyenas are awesome, so very awesome. Epic side characters who they tried to copy with Hercules and failed by a wide margin.

As I've mentioned before Hakuna Matata is my favorite Disney song of all time. It has a lot of personal meaning to me and has helped me through some of my darkest days. Beyond the sentimental value though it is probably one of the best timeskip songs we are ever likely to get. The seamless scene that it provides from Simba's childhood to adult is pretty awesome. I won't go into it much here out of fairness to Be Prepared, but I am sad this song wasn't nominated.

The music of this movie is completely wonderful. I can't name a single one piece of music that is out of place. Every single piece is completely where it needs to be to help to deliver the emotion of the scene. As I rewatched the movie it always blows me away how the composer's for this movie got it right every single time. No mistakes, no exceptions.

The Lion King is bloody fantastic. The characterization, the music, the art direction, the story, all completely amazing. Everything gets an A+ from me. I think one of the important things to remember about The Lion King is how I mentioned so many scenes. There is not a single scene of this movie that is unimportant. Not one. All of them help the plot, help the characters, or just help both in some way. All of them are great. No bad music, no bad scenes, nothing at all wrong with this movie.

7. Be Prepared (The Lion King) – Nominated by cody11533

And so the mighty beast falls. I cannot blame a single one of you who thought this was going to be my # 1 song, mostly because there have been times within the past few years where this was my # 1 Disney song. I am extremely critical of villains and their songs, and I feel that this is the best villain song of them all and that sentiment is never going to change. The gap from here to the very top of the list is, as stated multiple times previously, ridiciously thin. There is nothing wrong with this song, I simply prefer the others above it more. Scar is my favorite Disney villain which I will get into more later, and this was my Pokemon battle theme song for years. As some of you know from other Disney topics I don't mind playing the villain a little bit and so I would constantly psyche out my opponents before and during matches by either linking to this song or posting bits of the lyrics as they tried to focus on the battle, usually to great success. This song will always have a special place in my heart for that reason.

The song is a masterpiece of depicting a villain. It is always about your audience, both in scene and in the sense of the viewing audience. Some villains could be accused of madness, others of misdirected malice. After listening to this song there is no doubt what drives Scar: Evil. There is no better way to describe this song as an ode to an evil lion letting his underlings know just how evil he is because he relishes it. So few villains, if any, are as open about their evil and manipulation as Scar. I love Hellfire, but since it is the second highest ranking villain song on this list I feel it is a good comparisonfor this one. Where Hellfire is a great song to dig into the depths of Frollo's mind this song is a showcase of Scar. There is nothing much to think about here, he's super evil and cunning, let's show it off. That's bold. That's daring. That's what Disney constantly brought to the table in the 90s and no movie did it better than the Lion King, and this song is simply magnificent. I also must note the green-yellow-red transition in the coloring of the scene is pretty great and is an amazing way to show how the scene develops to its climix. It is an interesting way to make the visual cues somehow match the pacing of the song.

As far as villains go I think Scar is the best. He is witty, cunning, and dispisable to the very end. Which might make you think that it is strange that I like him, with my normal aversion of villains, but he is just done so completely well that his efforts cannot be ignored. From his snide talk with Mufasa to manipulating Simba extremely naturally to when he just stops pretending to be anything other than pure evil and murders his own brother. Every one of his lines is delivered completely convincingly with no thought of him really being evil paid any mind. He is snide, and snarky, but clearly Mufasa didn't expect him to betray him in such a way. It was a glorious portrayal until the moment of betrayal. This is probably one of my top three favorite voice acting jobs of all of Disney's history. The way he talks to Simba is great, so much manipulation that it almost breaks your heart, to the way he goes to fetch Mufasa with such genuine concern in his voice. It is the ultimate scene for me from a villain. It tears at my heart and Scar is just completely cold-blooded. Even 20 times after watching the scene I sometimes have to pause to gather myself for what is coming. Scar is one sick bastard and it is his devotion to that which makes him truly great. However aside from his personal greatness and how well executed he is what makes him truly rise to another level is the way he impacts the entire cast. His deeds directly drive the narrative. I love how unlike so many other villains he understands how weak he is, and so his cowardice shows through quite a bit. When Simba returns and Scar thinks it is Mufasa I think it is apparent that if he had pants he would have pissed them. It doesn't diminish him at all, in fact it only makes him greater. Every villain, to be great I think, needs that hero to rival him. A villain without suitable rivals in some form or another can't hold my attention as much. From the death of his brother to his own, he is the man, but before and after he is an afterthought. All villains have their time, and I think Scar's lifecycle is great.

I could talk about Scar all day and never grow bored, but for now I want to move on to the movie itself.

This is the best Disney movie of all time and it is not even close to me. It is my favorite animated movie of all time. The only thing stopping it from being my favorite movie of all time is a beast by the name of The Shawshank Redemption. Scar is a large reason of what makes this movie work, but he is not the only compontent despite being the glue of the film.

Mufasa is a complete champion. Let's just get that clear. For Scar to be such a good villain he has to have a better hero counterpart. We'll get to Simba in a second but Mufasa was amazing. Great father, great King, and all of the bad guys were scared to death of him. Hell Scar's trap couldn't even get the job done by itself until Scar stepped in and decided that throwing him off of a cliff was an awesome way to kill his brother. Even still Mufasa's will was what foiled Scar's plan to kill Simba as well. Of course, Scar didn't miss a beat on that issue but really that's just him showing off. Mufasa's death scene is one of the greatest scenes in cinema history. It breaks my heart every time he yells out for Scar to help him but it makes the villain inside of me laugh evilly as Scar ends his life on a quip. How amazingly cruel.

Saying we need less Assassins is one thing, but it's pretty difficult to regulate the frequency of roles. Take the example Yoshi just mentioned - Janitor. That isn't supposed to be a common role. It's a quirky addition to a scum faction that gives them a slight edge and causes a small degree of confusion among the town. If we saw it every game though, it'd get obnoxious pretty quickly. How do you tell someone not to include one though if there had been a recent spate of them? What makes one game more deserving than another? Then take into account that people finish making their games 6 months before they're even used.

The simplest solution would simply be to ban the role for games under a certain amount.

The simplest, but that's going to get me booed out of the building I assume.

Like I said I am not in favor of banning things, it is blunt and uninteresting, but if there was a large majority... well.

Majority does seem to rule at times.

I don't know, hard to implement stuff.

Giving a scum faction separate Vig and Strongman roles is probably fairer than a single Assassin role, depending on the size of the game.

But that's also true in the sense that they would end up with one less power as well.

But I meant "this game scum gets an unblockable" and "this game scum gets an extra"

So I've been thinking for a few months now and want to broach the subject with the mafia community as a whole about something.

I think the role of Mafia Assassin needs to be lessened within our community.

This is partially self-serving I confess, I have probably ate twice as many of these than anyone else has throughout the years so I don't mind if I am thought of as crazy, but as that player, but also I like to think as a respected scum player as well, mafia assassin is too strong of a role in games that don't have, say, 25+.

We very rarely use Mafia Vig. I feel as if Mafia Assassin is just kind of thrown into games because it is nearly a standard now. I think we see scum win a lot because they are able to, with little thought, target the best player in any one game night 1 and say "that's it. They are done." And on top of that usually are able to usually get a second kill.

I like the Mafia Vig for an extra kill
I like the Mafia Strongman to take out a scanner or, god help me, me.

I just think it is time to go back to the drawing board, not as a community trying to ban a role or something silly like that, but as a group of people who host. Almost every game scheduled to be hosted is from either a vet host or a vet player. I would like to hear some thoughts. I know I am biased, it can't be helped, but I think with the rate in which we see scum win games it isn't an unfair thing to point out.

Thoughts?

*Grabs a mic and enters the ring while carrying a sealed envelope*

I have returned with good news. I have, over the past several weeks, been tasked with a full fledged investigation of the events that led to a good man's punishment. I am of course speaking of my tag team partner Drakeryn and how he has been falsely accused of heinous crimes against Tom. I knew in my heart that Drak would never do such a thing, that something fishy was going on with all of this mess. Along with this I have found the smoking gun when it comes to Whiskey on the Rock's blatant rallying, and it is here in this envelope. It is time to put an end to this charade... to restore Drak's honor, and to fulfill the promise that UCA started with. One free of the tyranny of greed and corruption that now courses through the very veins of this federation.

I'd say this doesn't give me any pleasure, but I was never a big believer on that whole lying thing. This is the end of an era, an era of filth. With great satisfaction and with tremendous pride let me present the contents of this envelope that will shake the very foundations of everything you thought you knew.

You are very likely neurotypical

Doctor Doom glanced at the lottery topic in a way that someone could have mistaken for worry. It happened that Doom would have hurt the person who made that distinction severely. He enjoyed Pokemon Lottery, after all what better way was there to spend a few moments outside of his quest for Pokemon mastery than to partake in a gambit to decide if he could match his real feats with those imagined by that of the game's architect, one masterplum.

As Doom prepared to do superbly in another day of the event he noticed that the host had ill luck befall him. Doom, of course, did not care if masterplum lived or died as a matter of course. With that said, Doom was not one to wait around and do nothing. Doom quickly scanned the posts and came to a brilliant conclusion: the Human Torch had been causing fires in masterplum's region in order to disturb Doom's progress.

Doom's fists clenched.

That fool had meddled in the wrong game of chance and fun.

Doctor Doom made his way over to the gym where two things caught his eye. The first was a very tall brush with a sign next to it that simply said “cut the brush to proceed.” Doom made a mental note to do something more interesting than merely cutting it. The second was the most shady looking person Doom had ever seen, which was saying something considering he had plenty of reflective objects around his castle. The person in question wore a tall brown trench-coat which hid all of their features aside from their face, which was covered up by a large pair of sunglasses. Doom walked up to the person and yanked off the ridiculous disguise.

“Ack!” the now undisguised Misty said as she tried futilely to get her disguise back.

“When I said for you to be discreet I did not recall there being sarcasm in my voice,” Doom said.

“Hey, I haven't done this whole spy gig before, how was I supposed to know what you meant?” Misty complained.

Doom would have to think up a punishment later for this level of idiocy. For now, he was more focused on not wasting any more of his precious time on this fool than was required. “You said you had information. Doom does not appreciate being kept waiting.”

Misty proceeded to spill her guts. “Alright, I get it. I have heard from several reliable sources of mine that the leader of the criminal organization Team Rocket has put out a sizable bounty on your head.”

“Doom cares not for what one petty criminal does with his free time. Doom will make an example out of any fool foolish enough into fooling themselves into believing they have even a minute chance of victory against Doom.”

That example is going to involve a lot of blood spatter analysis, someone call in Dexter!

Misty shivered. She was not so far removed from her battle with her master that she could forget the deaths of her loyal Pokemon. Still, Doom had given her generous compensation for her services. She just had to get results and this arrangement wouldn't be all bad. “That's not the problem,” Misty said. “The problem is Team Rocket owns a very large economic stake in a number of key businesses and research centers around the world. Even if you were to defeat the lackeys they send after you Giovanni has enough influence to make your life difficult in other ways. You needed to know this to plan for what is to come, master. I swear.”

Doom could practically feel the sincerity oozing from his minion. Doom knew that Doom would best this pathetic man sooner rather than later, but it was true enough that giving Doom the knowledge of who his enemies was put said enemies at a perilous disadvantage.

The best kind of disadvantage!

“Very well. Doom has considered your words and agrees this was worth his time. You are dismissed.”

Misty ran away from Doom as fast as possible while still being polite about it. She was getting smarter.

Doom turned his attention back to the tall brush in front of him and folded his arms over his chest. Doom did not like being given instructions, especially instructions which were useless. Doom twitched his right hand and the brush in front of him exploded into dark, dark fire. It was common knowledge in the magic community that dark fire was the most painful. Doom was in the mood to set living things on fire and cause them pain, this brush was just the beginning.

Doom walked forward and entered the Gym.

Meowth followed as silently as possible, more than a little fearful of the possibility that his master might decide he looked pleasing set ablaze.

he should really use the real money auction house ~_~

Given the going rates for gold 100 million is worth more than the max he could get from the RMAH.
