On the one hand, I really don't feel that Obama meeting with the Dalai Lama is a big deal; on the other hand, this might be because I maintain that the DL's position is ridiculous and that the Tibetans are better off under Chinese rule. I'm torn between two points of apathy!

Anyway, yeah, let's not dive any further into the annoying Nerd/NC debate, because it always seems like nobody on either side has opinions that are representative of actual fact.
That's basically the modus operandi of all internet debating lol

AVGN: An obnoxious, over-the-top nerd who can't act or deliver a line to save his life who relies solely on screaming things to make his point. NC: A really good actor who's obnoxious and funny at the same time because he has these things called "timing", "vocal inflections", and a hilariously expressive face.
Don't want this topic to delve into the classic Nerd/NC debate, but really now. Most of the best AVGN videos are the ones where he tones down the ranting, or at least condenses them into bite-sized sections, so it's hardly fair to say he "relies solely on screaming" to be funny. The NC, on the other hand, can't go two sentences without shrieking, wailing, and/or flailing his hands and arms around like he's got... problems. And the Nerd's faces are about 1000x better and more expressive, not to mention varied.
Carry on!

That's basically the realization of everything I hate about the NC at his worst: lame-beyond-belief "acting" segments, flipping out over nothing, and an insufferably raspy voice. You want to talk irony? Spoony criticizing Tidus's VA for being "nasally."

The way that Dumbledore continued to ignore what was the right thing to do with regard to taking down Grindelwald indicates to me that he cared about Gellart on a lot deeper level than friendship.
Not to sound like a complete fruit, but I've gotta chalk this up to people underestimating the power of friendship. A real friend is just as strong a connection, if not more so, than a romantic lover. Sometimes you can really tell apart a strong friendship from passionate love is if the person starts acting crazy, but even then, Dumbledore never really seemed to lose his cool.

I always wanted to enjoy the Nostalgic Critic (since I'm a fan of AVGN and the like), but the few episodes I saw were waaaaaay over the top. Good comedic timing and pretty solid writing ruined by caffeine-charged overacting and overdone facial expressions. This is especially bad in the review of The Room.
That said, this topic seems like a good place to try picking it up again! Anything that gets an 8/10 or above will get a viewing from me, since you seem to be fair with the scores so far.

B8 is pretty laughable on the whole alpha/beta thing. It's one thing to parrot about it on B8 but when Other M comes out and the mainstream gets a hold of it and decries its awful misogyny, they pretty much have to play along or risk looking like fools.
Okay, what? Most "alpha/beta" discussions are tongue-in-cheek, and those rare times when they are serious, it's usually about how to get girls. Other M is an entirely different story, as it degrades what was once a strong female lead into a whiny, dependent cliche.
Also, Adam sucks because his "sacrifice" was dumb as hell.

^I'll agree with that. Had she ended things on a more tragic note, I think the story would've retained more believability and would be more compelling as a result. Plus, no Albus Severus Potter!

Last time I played through, I got to Part III (with human civilization) and lost interest, mainly because I was consulting a guide every couple of minutes to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do. Thankfully, Parts I & II are just as excellent as I remembered! Seriously, the opening act of Terranigma is probably the best in any RPG.
Hopefully I can actually finish the game this time!

Dumbledore being gay isn't strictly necessary, but it does make the story make a lot more sense.
Most of what you said can be attributed just as easily to Dumbledore simply not being into sexual love. It's not like he talked of love and never explored it: he was adored by the wizarding world, had countless good friends and countless more acquaintances, and- except for the gay comments of Rowling- it could be inferred that he tried the whole "monogamous partnership" thing and decided it was best to focus on his career/purpose in life.
I understand we live in a laughably over-sexualized culture at the moment, but just because a character isn't married or a raging bachelor doesn't mean he plays for the other team.

It actually makes his relationship with Grindelwald a lot deeper, and there's nothing to contradict it in the book either.
Please. As if adding a sexual component to a friendship suddenly makes it "a lot deeper." More complicated and tense, maybe, but it's pretty clear that Rowling said that as a way of generating more discussion after the final book's release.

lol libertarian economic policy, which is essentially ron paul.
Nah, that's not libertarian economic policy; that's CATO and the supposed "leaders" of the party, who are far more dogmatic then they'd like to let on.

^Tell me more! I'd like to hear about its mediocrity.
An author tends to do whatever the **** they want. Because, you know, they're the author.
Well sure. Most authors, however, are trying to write *quality* novels, so leaving such a miserable conclusion in the final product is baffling to me, considering how great the conclusion is otherwise.

It reeked of awful in the seventh book, and apparently this suckage carried over quite naturally into the film adaptation. Basically bad fanfiction, ugh. So someone who's a bigger fan than I am, please explain this to me: why would Rowling do such a thing?

Look, you really should just read the books for yourselves, but since you're so insistent... *last SPOILERS warning!* - - - - - - - - - - Neville and Harry aren't his biological parents, obviously, but they're the wizards who raised him. That's the reason the reason Time-Turners were conspicuously absent from the series after the second book: Rowling planned for them to make a shocking return during the final fight in Book 7. - - - - - - - - - *end spoilers*

Smuffin doesn't see a problem with the Top 1% of Americans controlling 42% of the financial wealth while the Bottom 80% of Americans control 7% of the financial wealth.
I actually don't see a problem with this either. Incentivize the economy and focus on growth over equality, yo

Yep. Chrono Trigger is fairly simplistic, and that works in its favor more than anything. Characters are fun, story is light, world is vibrant, battles move at a nice clip - it's everything good about a 2D RPG. FFVII is more my style of game, and I think it hits all the right notes in a different way from CT, but they're both good representations of the genre at different points.
Nailed it. Also worth mentioning that the plot, while lighthearted, has enough gravity to pull the player along, and while the character development's simplistic, the dialogue is pretty great!

LOL if you think FFVI is even in the running for this one
I was exaggerating. There'd be a multi-way tie for last place- in other words, "no development"- but Kefka would be only a few notches higher. Point is, lol @ ffvi

I'll agree if we're talking about "the definitive traditional jRPG."
And did someone really mention Final Fantasy VI? lol, save that game for the next topic, when we discuss which jRPG has the most broken, glitchfest of a battle system and underdeveloped main villain.
