Yeah, don't you know? Half Life 3 will release right alongside the final book to A Song of Ice and Fire. :P
I mean they are literally developing Deadlock right now.

Hype might have faded even though it's still a pretty damn great game, but yeah.
Good. As far as hardware is becoming concerned the graphical increases are basically nil. Following the common cycle when games take ten fucking years to come out is asinine.
Left 4 Dead or Zomboid.

Stuff like this is just part of an industry shift. Once the tech becomes good enough that anyone can get good quality voices, people will be phased out in a lot of areas. Getting up in arms about that fact is silly. Things can be criticized for having horrible quality voices or using a model that has stolen voice assets, so that would be perfectly fair to dock points. Otherwise, it's just pearl clutching.
Normally, sure. AI is obliterating industries like it's nothing left and right based on the future of the tech and there's really no backup or prep for it. So I will always tell this technology to go fuck itself, and everyone praising it.
So for those that didn't check on it, even as someone against GenAI in gaming, the AI voices are: Item and character names. That appears to be the extent of it's use from everything I read. Basically a tech so named characters no longer have to be "Boy/Hero/(Gender pronoun here)/Chosen One" etc.

Not a huge hill to die on, but one to watch with caution.

That said ARC Raiders seemed like a boring ass game when I tried it so I've already refunded.
People thought cocomelon kids were gonna be a problem, this is gonna be apocalyptic by comparison lmao

You answered your own question. Even as someone staunchly against the use of mind altering substance on a personal level, I can absolutely see how useful the stuff is to many people.

Our politicians though only care for themselves and their corporate interests by and large.

I don't trust streaming services at all. I'll put on free ones for background noise at times, but I really don't see the value in paying for them.
Boy are people going to be really pissed when that never happens.

A thing to consider there is sustainability. I love what GOG does, but years ago, rumors said they were struggling financially. That was one of the reasons I shifted from primarily GOG to primarily Steam. I was legitimately concerned that GOG would maybe not exist one day, while I have absolutely no worries on that front about Steam.

Its just very hard to pass up all the games being in one place. Even if something better than Steam came along, Ive got over 1400 games on there, what am I gonna do, start over?

GOG Galaxy used to cover the one place thing, but the Steam integration has been broken for at least 2 or 3 years.
You do realize that even if GOG stops existing, you get to keep every single game you've purchased, yes?

You can download offline installers for games and DLC that typically include the latest patches available, meaning you can even install and play the games with no Internet connection at all provided you have backups.

Every single game I have on GOG has installers on a USB stick or external drive.

or here me out companies can pay AW testers better and stop making bloated open world games

also AI wont be able to do this job at all
I would love for them to be paid well, but I don't think you realize how truly soulless and crushing the job is.

Do good? Find a bunch of bugs and report them? Congratulations, your reward is exasperation and frustration from the people you have to report this to.

Do bad? Congratulations, you basically get the same reward and get to eat blame.

The work itself? Infinite tedium. You're repeating the same tasks ad nauseam until you get that one weird result you got half an hour ago.

It's precisely the kind of job that automation should be targeting, pure joyless necessity.

Also it's been automated for nearly two decades at this point. In some capacity anyway.
To be fair, an astonishing amount of bug testing is doing shit like making sure you can't walk through any party of a wall, making sure the floor actually works as floor, making sure the sword or gun isn't attaching itself to the characters forehead when drawn for some reason...

A lot of that is pretty tedious, and is actually right up AIs alley for being really good at beating it's head against the same task for hours and not dreaming about actually beating it's head into a wall.

Using AI to find bugs is a pretty solid strategy.
It's because basically every other storefront really loves shooting themselves in the foot.

Like, I'll be completely honest, I'm a sucker for free shit and would've likely stuck in Epic... If it had a shopping cart and didn't take them three months to help me recover my password at one point, of back and forth bullshit.

Ubisoft had, at launch, quite a few games I was interested in at launch and used their stuff for a while until they completely lost my purchase of Watch Dogs 2 and still took my money, and they couldn't do anything about it until I mentioned suing them when they could magically refund me (but not give me my damn digital game for whatever reason). To this day I still own the unusable copy of the game on Steam.

EA app/origin I admittedly never had a problem with, just not many games I care about.

GOG is my most used one these days, though. They could really use a better UI on Galaxy...

Why would CPD even do this? They're on the same side as ICE.
As a former Chicagoan, the might be racist cops, but that racist part flies straight out the fucking window when they're dealing with something going against Chicago. It has a tendency to just turn to gang "us vs them" mentality then.

As for how that's a whole mess of State vs Federal. Nothing may come if it at the end of all the paperwork but they can arrest them

Was literally just complaining yesterday that with all the advancements in robotics and AI that it's kinda insane how people are still stuck with wheelchairs. If this does well(and a few safety tweaks) this could be pretty fucking amazing.

Living near a college, bored ass college students fuck with people's cars all the time, too. Fake tickets(blank papers usually), tucking in side mirrors that fold, using sticks to adjust people's rear view mirror if they left a window cracked...
... Why wouldn't be be? He's a rich dude who enjoys pretending to help people while making them do tasks that essentially publically shame them for money.
Ham, brisket, roast beef. Not a fan of duck/goose but they work too.

Weirdest one I personally had was my grandma revealing a pyramid of rotisserie chickens because they were out of Turkey. Was damn good still though.

The difference is that it used to just be idiots, and now AI is rapidly improving at a rate that suggests it will be indistinguishable even for the discerning pretty soon.

Like remember in 2023 when that hilarious will smith spaghetti video came out

That was 2 years ago my dude. Look how far its come.

Never saw it, the thumbnail looked stupid so I never bothered.

But this strikes me as a case of people being detached from reality(or just completely unobservant) as it was with some shooter a few years back with a body cam style. "It's so real! I thought this was real!" When it... Really just didn't look it at all. Light behavior, movement, texture, and so on were notably very much fake. I think rather than things becoming indistinguishable, it's more that we're running in to a time where people are becoming so detached they can't tell.

Things arent bad enough yet, too many Americans still think theyre the capitalists, and too many others still think capitalism is a force of nature and their place in it is natural/deserved.
This. You mention oligarchy and some people might think Russia, most Americans will likely be googling "whatever the hell that is" and then get mad you dare assume billionaires aren't visionaries.

ok cool

but we are in the society that believes jpeg facebook memes over scientific research, so I'm not hopeful that most people will take care to notice this.
That's how life has been for the past 20 years.

You see idiots believing videos of a person holding a fucking boulder above their head jumping on it causing it to break sending people falling to their death en masse and see morons believing it despite even the briefest search could show this never happened(let alone the person jumping like they're Michael Jordan while holding a rock that weighs probably a hundred pounds minimum over their head). Saw people legitimately believing that even though you could find highschool student produced movies with more believable sets.

You see people believing a cat got it's sack bitten while jumping and it stretched to be like 6 feet long before it fell over and passed out like a damn cartoon.

The average person these days will believe whatever the hell they want because it suits them. Idiots will always craft the mental narrative needed to suit their own desires. AI makes this only marginally easier than it has been for decades.
Things like this make me glad I am basically wholly self sufficient, because whether this goes well or goes poorly the economy and the average person is totally fucked.
I mean I work for myself and with my habits this is drop dead easy to accomplish so I'll likely be participating by happenstance, but there's no way this gains serious traction unfortunately.
pinky0926 posted...
Would you have noticed all of this if you didn't come into this looking for AI?
Yes, I talk to real people on a daily basis face to face, for... Most of my day. Since I'm essentially in sales for home reno at the moment, it's also pretty important for me to pay attention to expressions to know what I'm doing and how

Since the rise of AI I've just been putting those skills to work for spotting AI so I never have to watch AI content. AI is still monumentally far from legitimate human expression if you pay attention.
Exaggerated unrealistic facial motions. Reflections moving nonsensically in eyes. Eyebrows changing shape. Strange cadence.

No, not hard to tell.

It's a pretty average comment section in any Korean media sadly. They're incredibly toxic, but the most worrying part are the sheer amount of upvotes on the most ridiculous comments
This is why the "vocal minority/just people on the Internet/just ignore it" mentality is real fucking dated.

People see this behavior with no pushback and, well, damn is it easier to be a piece of shit than a decent person. You can spew hate all you want and no one cares! And anger feels so damn cathartic to boot in the heat of the moment.

You gotta nip that shit in the bud or it grows like kudzu vines.
The suffering is the point, y'all should keep up the boycott. A country that never has repercussions thinks they do no wrong, and America is eyeballs deep in that belief these days.

These people need to learn and carrot just isn't working.

Another boomer couple at place I ate lunch couldn't stand to talk to each other or sit in the "silence" (restaurant had music actually) so they pulled out their phone to loudly watch videos.

What is gonna happen to the younger gens who got a big headstart on their addictions?

They had to be at least 70
Oh society is FUBAR in that regard. Short form videos, legally distinct gambling games, social media, so on. Most people seem to need constant validation and that sweet dopamine hit for even the tiniest most insignificant tasks these days, and it's only going to get worse.
DMC2 pretty huge proof of this for games as well.
It's slowly starting to happen everywhere. Men avoiding mental health whether through social stigma or personal bias is really set up to be a fucking massive problem for the entire world.
Scarlet/Violet is a night and day difference on Switch 2 tbh. Game feels insanely better.

Ike/Xandu was always really friendly with Selen/Doki, and from that stream he basically just says he was pressured in to taking part in the black stream and apologized, so he wasn't even one of the bullies just a dude who was stuck in Japan and couldn't lose his job at the time.

In other, less dramatic news, Miki(Rosemi) returned via Twitter space to discuss her plans. Matara is basically trying to nicely drag her back in to vtubing it sounds like lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvTn9KgMp6g
I love the game but every time I try to replay it I basically drop it at disc 2s start. Holy fucking shit did that drag on way too much.

LoK is probably my favorite game series ever. The voice work in those games is pretty fucking crazy given when they were made in particular.
Silver is because vampirism is prayed as infectious, and silver was used for healers tools of the time(medical instruments and in some cases as medicine.)
Checks and balances only work if people give a damn about them.
I mean, while cool and all, isn't a bit of hubris to assume we could even begin to understand a simulation capable of running all of this when we can't even get asses to stop clipping through capes on the average?

Jokes aside, cool read. Kinda fascinating stuff. The theory was never one I agreed with anyway, but it's a fun plot device. The scientific reality is similarly cool.
