You gonna do somethin' or just stand there and bleed?
I don't go to concerts, nor do I really listen to the kind of music that people mosh to in the first place.

Been years, but yeah I've been in a pit.
Have you seen the Yellow Sign?

Oh hell yea!! Though Im a bit older now (not old yet, but older), so I find myself checking out the pit first to see how wild it is before jumping in

Yeah it's generally a good time and there's a etiquette to it that's usually observed and people who act out are quickly handled lol.

Used to. Now I'm the old head with a beer on the outside of the pit, helping the kids get back in.

Yeah I mostly only go to standing room shows and theres always a pit

Ive taken my fair share of falls and elbows to the stomach but its always a wild experience
Hee Ho
Yeah multiple times when I was younger. Was common for me in the 90's. These days I have no interest in that. I want to sit in my seat outside the standing room only area and listen. Yes I've turned into an old man.

it does depend on the show for me these days. I also went to milwaukee metal fest this year and the third day had a bunch of hardcore acts like Speed and Harms Way so the pits that day were just a bunch of people crowd killing and doing windmill arms, and that shit sucks

Yeah, but it's been a long time.

I didn't mind pits when I first started going to punk shows as a teenager, but that was in the days before I drank.

Since becoming an adult I usually have a beer in my hand at shows, so I avoid the pit.

Ugh. I fucking despise the hardcore kids and their spin kick bullshit. Though I have seen some pretty awesome videos of them getting wrecked for doing that crap

fuck yeah! i used to go to local metal shows featuring local unsigned bands and shit all the time, years ago back when that scene was vibrant in my area. i stopped going when metalcore and hardcore started taking over the scene though, because it got to where you couldn't get a mosh pit going at all, cuz all those fucking scene kids and hardcore kids would just want to do their stupid fucking two-steps and ground pounds and ninja kicks. they would literally recoil from you in fear if you so much as gave them a harmless little shove. it pissed me off to no end.

i don't know what the scene is like these days, but i don't think i'd be able to mosh now in any case, with the condition of my chronic lower back pain being what it has been in recent years.

Ive only been to a couple of concerts but those times I sat in seats. It seems like it would be immeasurably unpleasant being down there in a crowd of assholes pushing and jumping and screaming the entire time

Back in the 90s I was in a very moshy pit.

Yes, but the last time was ages ago. Maybe 2005 or 2006.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Once, and I felt bad doing it. My chain-wallet was flying, hitting the people in the pit, so I apologized and backed out. I know injuries happen, but I didn't like the idea of being the one responsible

When I was younger and didn't fear injury, yeah.

When you hit 40, no one wants to see you in a mosh pit. And I don't want to risk injury.

I was the frontman in a touring death metal band. There were pits at our shows.

I have been in pits but it's not really my thing and I'm old now.

I saw a guy with a dressy cane go into one, made me laugh.
I always stand right on the very edge of the pit to a) be closer to the show and b) protect the folks that don't want to be a part of the pit but are also usually too sheepish to stop it themselves.

Still doing it but it's harder at 30 now. I've broken my foot and part of a tooth in a pit definitely some memorable fun experiences

In my younger years. At 42 though, I'll leave that to the young kids and sit with the other old people.
I feel like I need to put something here, or else I am one of those weird people who think that having no signature is a character trait.

Hardcore dancing needs to made taboo. It ruins the fun for everyone else
it really does. it's all about taking up as much floorspace as possible and distancing yourself from everyone else. it TOTALLY fucking wrecks the communal spirit of a mosh pit, and just of shows in general. The undulations of the crowd, the synchronized movements, the bumping and shoving, the general exchange of energy. none of that with that hardcore dancing shit. just LOOKIT ME I'M TAKING UP SPACE FLAILING ABOUT WILDLY!

I'm fine with circle pits and true moshing but once people start crowd killing and shit I get annoyed. I can't enjoy the music.
In my youth I would actively try to be a mosher, was never good at it. I guess I have a very poor center of gravity because like almost every first time someone with moderate force slammed into me I'd go flying and end up on the floor.

While it's awesome to witness firsthand that, yes, metalheads do look out for each other because as soon as someone goes down there's 2-5 guys instantly reaching down to pick them up or forming a protective circle if there's real damage, lost glasses or phone, etc. it does take all the fun out of it when you're down within seconds.

It is also insanely physically draining and I'd always leave sweating bullets, though that might just be my hyperhidrosis.

Just once, was fine with it for the opening act, as well as the second act... when Metallica came on, I figured I'd take a few steps back... nope, thought I was going to die, had to really high-tail it out of there.
