Superintendent Ryan Walters isnt just talking about buying Bibles for schools.

Bids opened Monday for a contract to supply the state Department of Education with 55,000 Bibles. According to the bid documents, vendors must meet certain specifications: Bibles must be the King James Version; must contain the Old and New Testaments; must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and must be bound in leather or leather-like material.

A salesperson at Mardel Christian & Education searched, and though they carry 2,900 Bibles, none fit the parameters.

But one Bible fits perfectly: Lee Greenwoods God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, endorsed by former President Donald Trump and commonly referred to as the Trump Bible. They cost $60 each online, with Trump receiving fees for his endorsement.

Mardel doesnt carry the God Bless the U.S.A. Bible or another Bible that could meet the specifications, the We The People Bible, which was also endorsed by Trump. It sells for $90.

Separation of church and state concerns aside, much less expensive Bibles are readily available. Paperback versions of the New King James Version are available online for $2.99 each, less than 5% of what the Trump-endorsed Bible would cost. There are many free Bible apps, too.

Though Walters has frequently said he wants Bibles in every classroom, he has also clarified publicly that he wants them in classes where the Bible might apply to academic standards, such as history or literature. The request for 55,000 copies doesnt fit either scenario; there are only 43,000 classroom teachers in the state, and many fewer teaching just history or literature.

If the Bibles cost $60 each, and the state buys 55,000, thats $3.3 million.

Isett said the $3 million is coming from payroll savings.

Blasphemy + Christian Nationalism + Trump Money Laundering = the most Republican thing I can think of.
Time for teachers to teach the socialist Jesus then.

The parents did though. This is what the parents wanted to be done and that is what is going to happen. Kids can't vote, so it is up to the people that do. And those people voted for this. A shame for the kids, and hopefully lawsuits especially about the separation of church and state can block this nonsense, but people voted for this. Overwhelmingly, even. This is the negative of "states rights!" being so prevalent in those dumbass circles. If your population is fucking stupid, you get this stupid stuff.

They have, but Walters strikes me as the kind of Christian nationalist to go ahead with it anyway, claiming God's word matters more than the court's.

That they had to fill those very specific requirements, and the Trump version was the only one who did so?

Per the article, more than 100 teachers have resigned or been fired for refusing to go along with this bullshit. And to show he little he cares, the money that would have went to their salaries is being diverted to the Trump Bible funds.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if a goal was to force some of the poorer schools to shut down. Teachers are being paid so poorly that they have to buy their own supplies, imagine that limited budget being stretched even further.

Since when was fiction history? Or are they also going to teach every other religious doctrine with the same standard of it being "historical?"

This question is rhetorical, they have no desire for history, or anything other than blatant cultist violations of the very documents they claim to support.

Let's see how Oklahoma's schools are faring under Ryan Walters' leadership.

https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2024/04/23/oklahoma-teacher-pay-educators-leaving-rates-since-covid-pandemic/73424000007/

Teacher turnover hit its highest point since the pandemic last school year, when more than 6,000 Oklahoma public school teachers left the classroom.

The most common reason for dissatisfaction was pay, according to the survey, with only 15% of teachers reporting they are extremely or very satisfied with their salary.

https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/education/2024/08/29/oklahoma-schools-literacy-rates-absenteeism-ryan-walters/74675070007/

Oklahomas education system, chronically ranked among the lowest-performing in the nation, is failing at even getting kids to come to school.

The state's schools received an F grade in chronic absenteeism on the most recent Oklahoma State Report Card issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. That same report card showed 73% of third-graders in Oklahoma fall into the basic or below basic categories for English language arts, a key indicator of reading ability.

https://fox59.com/news/national-world/oklahoma-social-studies-education-to-be-reformed-with-help-of-conservative-influencers/

Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced Tuesday a committee with conservative activists tasked with rewriting the social studies standards in his state.

The decision comes after Walters said parts of the Bible must be taught in schools, emphasizing in the memo it will be used as an instructional resource.

The committee includes conservative activists, such as Kevin Roberts, head of the Heritage Foundation, which led Project 2025, a conservative roadmap for a potential second Trump term.

It also includes Dennis Prager, who founded PragerU, an education group focused on teaching conservative principles. The conservative platform has made its way into multiple states, with videos such as Was the Civil War About Slavery? and The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party.

Oklahomas new Republican superintendent of public schools is facing bipartisan criticism for appointing a right-wing social media influencer from New York to a state library advisory committee.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters announced Chaya Raichiks appointment to the committee on Tuesday, saying she is on the front lines showing the world exactly what the radical left is all about lowering standards, porn in schools, and pushing woke indoctrination on our kids.

Raichiks Libs of TikTok account on X frequently features anti-trans posts and clips of public school teachers aimed at generating right-wing outrage. One of her posts last year showing an edited video critical of a public school librarian in Tulsa led to several consecutive days of bomb threats to schools in the district.
