Because the Republicans made it that way. That's literally been their strategy for decades.
It's been the right wing tactic of choice since the Southern Populists at least.

Literally no one felt democracy was at stake every election before Trump ruined the country.

Im talking about going forward. People feel all of the GOP is so far gone that really its way beyond this just being a Trump issue. And in no way does it seem like it will improve or go away so this will be the sentiment going forward, regardless of Trump not being there in the future.

Ok but why would you vote for separate parties in federal elections? Like youre voting for opposition to your own votes?

What I mean is the people I know who are very vocal about letting you know who they are voting for are the type of people who have belonged to one party their whole lives and always voted that way.

They dont tend to be purple voters who may vote Republican one cycle and vote Democrat 4 years later based on the candidate. They tend to be people who always vote for their party no matter who the person is and they have always been this way.

I have to wonder how much flopping about "Vote SDP no matter who" would get at this stage.
"A shouted order to do something of dubious morality with an unpredictable outcome? Thweeet! "
My FC is in my profile.
I will never vote blue in the UK.

And anyone who does I lose all respect for, likely for good.

Fuck the tories.

But to actually answer it I think that type of thinking is what allows Labour/Democrats/whoever to swing to the right and reject progression in the hope of getting right wing votes and fail everyone else.

If people voted for party and policy over individuals then that supports Vote Blue No Matter Who. Republicans do not offer worthwhile policy and havent in my lifetime.
Exactly lets play a game.

Im a pro-choice liberal, strongly opposed against the MAGA movement.

Everyone who says it is wrong to say blue no matter who please make a list of all the Republicans who support the things I believe in. Ill wait

Okay? What reason would someone have to Vote repub one cycle and dem the other?

Honestly, only people with some very bizarre views would be flip-flopping between Dems and Reps all the time. Otherwise, you're likely hurting the progress of your own wants for this country.

BTW there was a time I was not blue no matter who. In 2016 I told many people if the Dems nominated Hillary I would vote for a Republican as long as it wasnt Trump or Cruz (and of course the front runners were Trump and Cruz)

But 8 years later the GOP has gone all in on Trump so I have to go all out on them.

I could only see myself voting red or 3rd party on local elections and it would mainly be based on specific local policies that the representative actually has strong direct control towards. For exactly, housing.

There's good reason the saying isn't "Vote blue no matter what." more than it doesn't rhyme.
I hate that I have to do that. But right now I do.

Because the Republicans made it that way. That's literally been their strategy for decades.

1. Create wedge issue
2. Force everyone onto one side of wedge
3. Whichever side of the wedge the GOP is on, blame the other side of the wedge for all the worlds problems.

Integration, Civil Rights, Immigration, Abortion, Marriage Equality, Transgender Rights, Guns

every single one of those things used to not be a partisan opinion until the GOP decided to artificially make it a wedge issue

If you want things to change, the first step is to destroy the GOP and the only way to do that is to dismantle the two party system, and the only way to do THAT is to vote in Democrats because they're the only ones advocating for electoral reform. The only thing the GOP wants to change about our elections is they want less people voting.

What? Civil rights, immigration, LGBT rights etc have always been partisan/highly polarized issues. They've always been disputed. The Democrats have zero interest in destroying the two party system. They actively believe current Republicans should exist and prop them up in order to win elections more easily and to not have to do anything when they win. Voting for Democrats is not going to get us to some post political post partisan utopia. Because Democratic politicians and donors are not actually interested in doing that and are opposed to any of the things that would get us there.

Republicans are interested in killing unions, schools, journalism, democratic elections, rational courts anything that leads to liberalism. Democrats are actively opposed to doing the same, they think it's wrong to do so.

Yes, voting for Democrats is better than voting for Republicans, but the party you're imagining is not the one that actually exists.

MAGA supported neo nazis and the overthrow of democracy

And Republicans supported MAGA

Until the entirety of current generation of GOP is out of office, we MUST support the Democrats in ALL general elections.

If you are unhappy with the Democratic candidate work hard to get some good democrats in the primary.

It is what happens when GOP policies since Reagan have been wrecking the nation. There is no choice that is the fast track to adding more socialism and protecting worker rights. We do know GOP hates unions and works to bust them. GOP judges side with corporations and keep adding more to the SC continues the oligarchy/price fixing.
I think those people are ignorant.

Yes, Democrats are better than republicans, but whenever someone says "vote blue no matter who" I'm always under the impression they don't vote in the primary, don't look up the actual policies of the people they vote for, and just show up in November to vote down party because politics is nothing more than a team game for them.

Usually the Ridin with Biden or #RESIST type of liberals.
