is this proven fact , so panera will pay 20 bucks an hour? article i said, said they would not. Not certain though. But did you personally believe those allegations against newsom? iirc he did not officially deny them.
You seem really concerned with Panera workers. Care to tell us why?

Not sure how all of this completely works, but where I live (SoCal), I've just noticed that my local fast food prices has been increased.. it's insane now.

A 5 piece spicy chicken tenders in Popeyes is nearly $20.. let that sink in... also had their chicken sandwich. My meal was $30... and worst, the sandwich legit has gotten smaller in size

All the price hikes is the reason I stopped eating fast food.

Cooking your own food, or going for frozen stuff like Pizza or chicken nuggets is the way to go.

In Denmark McDonalds workers make $22/hour
In Denmark, a Big Mac costs only a little more than it does here.

Weird how that works, and weird how you people never seem to bring that up. Oh right, it's not. You're just bitching about people making more money because you want to keep people poor because you think you're better than them.

While I get the point you're trying to make, you can't compare the economic breakdown of a country with 330+ Million people with one that's approximately the size of Wisconsin.

Seattle currently has a $20 minimum wage. Fast food prices within the past 6 months have increased pretty substantially. Right now a Big Mac combo meal is around $14 which is absurd.

Even with the increased minimum wage the restaurants are still usually completely understaffed. With the ridiculous prices and bad customer service I've pretty much stopped eating at any fast food places in Seattle now.
Interesting. Glad to hear from someone whos actually been around this and seen what happens.

Well, if nothing else, we'll be able to see what happens.

I really don't think $20/hr is especially high if you compare historical min wage versus CPI.

$15/hr was outrageous ten or so years ago when that controversy first flared up but these days I feel like $20/hr is perhaps a little high but not crazy.

I can see why McDonald's and other fast food places are so expensive these days. Paying that much money out for workers

it might also have something to do with their CEO making about $8500/hr

It's like $13 here in Virginia which is a right to work state

It is absurd because the labor involved in making a Big Mac meal, even at $20/hr, doesn't justify a $14 price tag. It's all corporate profits and returns to shareholders who don't even work there. Gotta maintain that 3% growth per quarter above all else

Damn. Still?
A hash brown at McDonald's is like 3.50 now

The federal minimum wage is two McDonald's hashbrowns per hour and that's totally sustainable and good, nothing wrong with that

If we pay people a living wage, we might have to pay people a whole hash brown per hour and that would be unsustainable

what kind of crazy stuff with customers?
on one hand seeing some of the people who work at mcd's getting $20 for a job they dont give a shit about or put much (if any) effort into kinda pisses me off. on the other hand if you actually wanted to do your job well and are in it for the long haul, its still not enough (especially in cali) for the amount of bullshit and stress you have to put up with on a daily basis.

i worked as a crew trainer and maintenance tech for McDonald's for a few years and iv never gotten burnt out on a job like i did on that one. at the store i worked at in michigan ended up giving everyone a $2 increase in their hourly pay to help gte more employees in the door, which worked, but it also meant the higher ups also cut a lot of corners (like cutting my 40hour weeks down to 32, which negated the price increase and the bosses would do everything in their power, more so, to make sure you didnt get over time even if their business suffered for it) and on top of that it lead to the more skilled people leaving due to the new increase of kids not caring about the job which made the vets have to do extra work and piled on even more stress. plus the bosses cheaped out further in other ways like less produce/item buys (which meant we ran out sooner if we happened to get some unforeseen rushes in the week), less maintenance on the back end (which made my job hard since i had to do more when i had to it) and ended up making the overall service portion especially suffer from people not being able to get the time they need to properly learn stuff due to cut hours and the rush nature of the job.

while it needed to happen regardless, i guess what im getting at is dont expect the increase to mean much. dont underestimate peoples greed and cheapness. the people in charge WILL find a way to screw you out of that extra money.
Just learned that Denmark McDonald's give their employees 6 weeks vacation annually, pay them 22 an hour, and give employees a year of maternity leave, their big mac is the same price as ours.

Fast food CEOs make hundreds, often, thousands of dollars per hour and raise their prices over the years regardless. No one bats an eye.

Fast food workers get a bump in pay. Those same rich as fuck CEOs keep raising prices that they were already doing anyway. People flip their shit and blame the workers.

TRUE!
They have been raising prices every year since 2020 and multiples times are year in some cases. No one really complained about it (I did) but said "oh they HAD to!"

Now they give workers a raise, "NO IT WILL RAISE THE PRICE"

Can't fix what wants to be broken I suppose
After learning the current price of fast food in California - it makes all the corporate bootlicker arguments even weaker.

The big macs are already ridiculously overpriced, may as well make it so fast food workers can buy fast food on their wages? Also seem these fast food chains make massive profits even if they have to pay their workers a living wage.

Aren't we all just a series of tubes?

It didn't have weight to begin with. They tried to do this same shit when talk of $15/hour was mentioned a few years ago. You had the same exact shit of "Oh, you want to pay $20 for X item, cause that's what's gonna happen!!11" Then it was pointed out that places like Seattle already had $15/hour and they weren't paying $20 for their shit and... then nothing. People just ignored it and kept saying if you raise worker wages you will have to pay $20 for a Big Mac.

That's because wealth funded think tanks created an enemy and villain out of fast food workers the same way they did to public school teachers.

Now you aren't mad at nebulous arbitrary price increases - No, now it's those POORS working their miserable jobs they should be getting down on their knees and thanking their corporate overlords for - and also trying to claim these aren't real jobs they're just after school work for high schoolers to build character.

Aren't we all just a series of tubes?
Blaming the workers is news to me. Why would they be responsible for the price hikes?

Well obviously the idea is to claim that paying higher wages would force companies to raise prices in order to continue projected profit growth, because that's our economic model. Massive profits are not enough, the profits must also increase in % continually every quarter.

But Americans would rather cry for the billionaire shareholder possibly making slightly less profit this quarter than thousands and thousands of American workers struggling to pay bills or losing jobs.

seriously answer both and you might have a path to not being far right
The prices of the meals are continuously going up regardless. There needs to be legislation (lol) to stop this price gouging shit. Maybe then we wouldn't need general wages to increase. It's all a fuckin' pipe dream.
