Disturbed's Sound of Silence is a great cover

Now that its just a one time raw garage band experiment and not we waited 7 years for THIS?!, St. Anger is a great album.

-Taylor Swift didn't become decent until folklore.
-90s American twee> 80s UK twee
-Triarchy of Lost Lovers>Non Serviam
-Rotting Christ have some decent output outside of traditional black metal
-The best blues music is the super old stuff with poor production values
-Mitski's "Nobody" is one of those singles that gets exceptionally popular, and while being a good/decent song, comes from an album with many far better songs
-"Dog Days are Over" from Florence in the Machine is in a similar scenario to the above example
-Melanie Martinez's pre-Portals was traditional pop music that happened to be wearing an outfit from Hot Topic
-Enslaved's blackened prog> Frost and Eld
This topic is basically "which popular band do you think is actually bad"

Some guys get all the breaks, Some guys do nothing but complain
I can't help but think that people who say Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal is better than the original say so with racism being a slight factor

It's a stretch but it's just my auto conclusion every single time that topic comes up

Huey Lewis and the News's early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

And that blood is so real, because I just can't fake it.

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

There are zero great rock bands making new music today. Has been that way since 2010. No one has been able to prove that to me personally. I believe that people just lower their standards every decade since then.

I like alt rock, but in terms of hard rock, it just feels out of date no matter what they do. The music that's about being angry or sex just comes off as appealing to older dudes, while the rest of the world grew up.

You know, it is possible for someone to criticize or critique a black person or their work without it coming from racism. And while I do enjoy AAFs cover, it is not better than MJs version.

I personally wouldn't call it "better" either. It's just a goofy, fun and kinda meme-able take on the original. I don't think there's anything wrong with liking either version or both.

Yeah I like mj in general (beat it and billie jean being my favorites) but prefer alien ant farms smooth criminal better.

That said I think a lot of covers are better than the original usually I think it boils down to which version a person hears first

One exception being is despite hearing pink Floyd's first I prefer Korns another brick in the wall

Mostly agree. I dont like them but like Dream On and Toys in the Attic. Always weirded out when bands are writing teen anthems well into their 40s. Theres some late era Bon Jovi songs that should be embarrassing.

Now this i totally agree with. Some of my otherwise favorite rap albums will just have jarring skits that do nothing to make the album better

You know what? I have a scorching take that I've never really said to anyone. I respect Jay-Z's success but I think he is mid at best as a rapper. I don't mean mid in the top tier of rappers. I mean literally middle of the road. I don't get why people love him so much. He does have some moments but most of the time it's just whatever. Most of his songs or when he is featured doesn't do it for me. IDK if I would even have him in the Top 50 personally.

Here's a couple of more:

KISS has some fun songs and they get hated too much. They're far from the greatest band ever, but they have a few cool songs in a turn off your brain way. It's dumb fun like fast food for your ears.

Never got the complaint of "all AC/DC songs sound the same". What do you want, a deep political song? Jazz odyssey?

There seems to be a big backlash towards classic rock in general. If it's not your thing, that's cool, but why hate it? Seems like part of it is because it's old and the boomer generation likes it. Over exposure is one thing, but that doesn't mean the music sucks.

The thing about Kiss is, with their image and reputation, one might assume they are some edgy hard rock/metal act, then you listen to them and are disappointed to hear catchy pop rock. Not there is any thing wrong with pop rock.
Never got the complaint of "all AC/DC songs sound the same". What do you want, a deep political song? Jazz odyssey?
They do all sound the same. Once again not necessarily a bad thing. Brian Johnson is great, but it is such a shame that Bon Scott had to die.

Boy bands of the 90s were both overrated and Underrated. They were not as great as the crazy girl fans wanted you to think, and they were not as bad as the dudes wanted to you to think. Run of the Mill catchy tunes that made you tap your toe but not wright home about.

Kanye might be a bigot, but he is one of the best artist of our generation.

Rap music today is a made the be literally mush in place of conversations about the life. Freaking Flavor Flav got the world talking about the issues with the 911 system. And now we are Praising WAP as some Iconic song. When that is literally the female version of Get Low. No one would have played that at the grammys. Rap is now a tool used to put down most Black but all Americans .

If you say I am wrong, then prove that you are right.
