When the Star Wars movies first aired on Chilean TV in the early 2000s. Their contract with Lucasarts stated they couldn't show advertisements during the film. To get around this, they filmed fake parts of the movie which are hilarious and jarring.

The funniest part was that George Lucas sued Chile for doing this.

As he should have. It's funny as fuck, but a pretty blatant breach of contract and ruins the movies.
Lmao I immediately knew as soon as I heard the first jingle play that this was going to be glorious, and it was.

I remember another topic shared that first clip, but these are hilarious. Yeah, it ruins the immersion, but it would have been funny as hell to just be watching the movie, not knowing when someone was going to grab another Cerveza Cristal lol

It's funny because American TV is generally the opposite; advertisements are all well and good with blatant product placement being more discouraged.
Yeah, this blew up on social media a few weeks back.

Still insane as hell that it ever happened.

Dude, now you got me thinking.
What if some folks there who saw Star Wars for the first time, saw it during that broadcast?
Would be trippy if then those people turned around and saw the unaltered version and would be wondering what happened to all the beer.

Maybe it was different back then, however the setting also matters. It's one thing for a character to be walking in the city and see a Taco Bell, another for a Taco Bell to randomly show up on Tatooine or the Death Star cafeteria.

Poor Obi-Wan. He had to become a drunk to live with the horrors of the Clone Wars/rise of the Empire.

Hello
Dang that was smooth.

So in Chile they just showed the movie as is? They didn't try to dub it like most other countries?

It was in Spanish in Chile, the video was edited to have the English scene though...to enhance the meme.
