Most shonen anime is nothing special in terms of story (jjk/attack on titan as recent examples)I can see this. JJK especially is falling apart in the manga currently
Ari Aster's Hereditary and Midsommar are both mediocre films carried by thematic shock value and stylistic details. Neither film explores the themes present (generational trauma and toxic codependency) especially well. The stylistic details aren't bad, but are a bit derivative because they don't express anything that isn't already obvious in the film's text. Neither film is bad, but their high praise only exists because the horror genre is mostly known for films of a general low quality.I agree with Midsommar but I personally quite like Herditary.
Ngl, this hurts me. There are so many times you post movie opinions or quotes and I think "am I actually SFM?" But this...Shawshank is my favorite movie lol.
Taxi Driver is kind of meh, and Raging Bull deserves a lot more love.
His movies are fine, but any legitimate criticism of Jordan Peele movies are often dismissed as racism and his movies are way overrated because Hollywood is so excited to have black horror movies with a black director and a black cast. He didnt revolutionize or elevate horror movies, he just made some solid enough horror movies.I agree. I personally HATED Us, I thought it wasn't anywhere close to being a good movie. But some of his stuff is good.
Goodfellas and The Irishman are meh movies.Haven't seen The Irishman, but I can agree on Goodfellas. I actually have a topic here that's still open about that.
I didn't like The Batman.Def agree. Easily the worst Batman movie since the 90s. Well, except maybe vs Superman. I dunno, I had better sense than to watch that one.Dude did not do s*** until the very end, and he got people killed chasing the Penguin.
Heat was a terrible movie, I went in expecting it to be a great movie but holy shit it was awful. The best actor besides Pacino was the guy who played waingro and the downtown shootout was laughably bad.I loved Heat. WTF.
The Back to the Future movies aren't funny or fun.Ok, now I'm just confused. They're like the definition of fun movies.
-The Shawshank Redemption is just ok. Not GOAT level.I could see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I thought it was pretty great. Still wouldn't call it GOAT level though.
I agree. I personally HATED Us, I thought it wasn't anywhere close to being a good movie. But some of his stuff is good.I loved Nope as a sci-fi film, but Us was a whole mess. I liked the ending of Us, but theres only one a time a good ending salvaged an otherwise boring story (Black Mirrors White Bear episode).

I've always thought that 2001: A Space Odyssey is painfully boring and slow. It's a fantastic film, but it's also definitely one that asks a lot of the viewer.
However the last time I watched it was likely in my early 20s, so maybe I would appreciate it more. I understand the effects were groundbreaking for the time, but that doesn't really make me appreciate excruciatingly long scenes of ships docking into other ships all that much.
Carlito's Way is better than Scarface.Honestly, felt the same way. The Big Lebowski was good, but not THAT good imo.
Taxi Driver is kind of meh, and Raging Bull deserves a lot more love.
Heath Ledger was not a good Joker.I guess there are two ways of looking at it. Heath's Joker was a compelling character, but he was an awfully loose take on the character.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly isnt the best of the trilogy, A Few Dollars More is.Totally agree.
I think Jack Nicholson is mostly cringe (Cuckoo's Nest is good) and The Shining is awful. My first introduction to the guy left a bad taste in my mouth. That was the Joker. He just wasn't anywhere near animated or loud enough.
