Had to google the one guy, knew who Toriyama was. Easy decision.
Had to google the one guy, knew who Toriyama was. Easy decision.I am aware of Hayao Miyazaki's works like, Princess Mononoke, but I didn't know him by name either.
His 2001 film Spirited Away became the highest-grossing film in Japanese history, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and is frequently ranked among the greatest films of the 21st century. Miyazaki's later filmsHowl's Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo (2008), and The Wind Rises (2013)also enjoyed critical and commercial success. Following the release of The Wind Rises, Miyazaki announced his retirement from feature films, though he later returned to write and direct his twelfth feature film The Boy and the Heron (2023), for which he won his second Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.Expecting people to know the creator of every supposed famous work is a terrible take. Had to look his name up as well.
Who the fuck doesn't know Miyazaki lol
Miyazaki is directly responsible for the Disney Renaissance. That's how influential his work is.
why do we have to pit them against each other? this is stupid.
Toriyama is more iconic just because his work is/was more accessible, especially in Latin America, and the west.
Both are legends tho.
That's not what accessible means.
That's not what accessible means.Yes it is.
why do we have to pit them against each other? this is stupid.
More people had TV's than access to a movie theatre, or the electronics to watch a movie on VHS or DVD
stop being a clown.
"You can't watch movies on TV"
Also, that's not what accessible means.
Not what I said.
You said that Miyazaki's movies aren't as accessible because people didn't have easy access to theaters or home video, implying that they can't just watch it on TV.
C'mon use your brain.
You're the one arguing that airing more on TV equals being more iconic.
My argument is that Toriyama's work is more accessible because televisions are more widely used, and in households compared to people going to the movies. Which in turn makes him more iconic because his work is more likely to be seen.
You don't need to embarrass yourself. I mean maybe you have a humiliation fetish.
why do we have to pit them against each other? this is stupid.
A television show isn't more iconic than a movie just because it's "more likely to be seen", no.
All things being equal, the more iconic work is the one seen by more.
Easiest Toriyama vote of my life.Seeing as the poll closed before you posted I would say it would be a pretty hard vote.
Seeing as the poll closed before you posted I would say it would be a pretty hard vote.
That was a good gotcha.I was more making it as a joke. ~.~
Seeing as the poll closed before you posted I would say it would be a pretty hard vote.Didn't even realize it was closed. Consider my post a mail in ballot, then.
Toyiyama is beating Miyazaki 2 to 1 in the poll so far. (40 vs 20 votes).
Is he really? I'd like to know more about that
