  • started out its life cycle impossible to buy
  • no games available for maybe its entire first year, just PS4 games
  • games start coming out. They're all remasters and remakes of PS2-4 games
  • now it's at the end of its life cycle, apparently
Wtf even happened here. Or maybe it's just this entire generation of consoles?

Actually, they said it's entering the latter half of its cycle. Which, given that the thing launched in 2020, would give it a six year lifecycle.

I've had the PS5 since day 1 and to be honest I got more playtime on it than my switch, xbox one s, and wii u combined. (I have had a series X thanks to my brother since december but all I really did on that so far was just play gears 3, gears tactics, state of decay 2, and battletoads). *For reals though, my year of playstation game time stat total things is pretty nutty.*

Also playing me some FF7 rebirth so that'll be neat.

"PS5 has no games / just a bunch of PS4 games."

People need to adjust their thinking when it comes to consoles. It's not like the old days when a new console meant new experiences you could only get if you bought it. A new console now is just a hardware refresh. More power. The PS5 is just a PS4 with higher specs. Xbox Series are just more powerful Xbox Ones.

I'm sure most early PS6 / NextBox games will run just fine on PS5 / Series X. You might wonder "well then why even buy one?" but again, you're thinking like the old days. New consoles aren't about new experiences. They are about higher resolutions and better framerates. Shinier graphics. Playing new games at their best.

In this respect, console gaming is more similar to PC gaming than ever. We don't label a PC game with a generation. It'd just a PC game. How well it runs will depend on your hardware.
This is what you get when blind fanboys back in 2013 pretended that Sony were the "good guys". And for the entire gen they were acting so arrogant that they were blocking crossplay and mods, removed backwards compatibility, censoring games that were released uncensored on Switch, and are now deleting digital content people already purchased.

And ironically for all the shit MS got back in 2013, they actually ended up being one of the most consumer friendly companies that reintroduced backwards compatibility and created Gamepass.

Like others have said before, gaming has changed.

Graphics-wise, you're not really going to see a huge jump from generation to generation, so all you're really getting with each new console is speed and storage.

And the speed jump from PS4 to PS5 was enough for me to upgrade.

Theyve been taking stuff from eachother in general, but Im glad they did. I think controllers would be far better by now if Microsoft wasnt so stubborn. Theyre literally the only ones that dont even have gyro, let alone other functions. I really feel theyre holding stuff back with way too much focus on simplicity when it comes to multiplats but luckily devs like Capcom do put the work in for other versions.

That doesnt exactly follow logically. Popularity doesnt necessarily equal utility. To be honest though, as somebody who owns both, theyve both been equally disappointing to me.

Xbox, by making their games release day one on PC, made it pointless to own the console. At least PS5 has exclusives, as few as they are.

Series S

Series S is lightweight, portable, and cheap. If anything it is the best console this gen (depending what gen you put the Switch in).

PS5 just plays PS4 games at a PS4 pro level. There is no point to it.
Currently Playing: FFXIV, TES games, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Overwatch, Forza Horizon 5, Pokemon, and various random Gamepass games.
Even without exclusives, consoles will still be a thing.

The mainstream audience will prefer a console to a PC, always having to upgrade a PC's parts now and then, whilst optimizing a game whenever there are troubleshooting problems.

A console gets rid of all that. And before you say "its easy", I'm a PC gamer and yes, for us its no problem. But even then I've had trouble with a few games now and then with countless issues that have to be troubleshooted before it runs properly.

So no, the PS5 would never be useless. Neither will the Xbox.

If Sony was losing ground to Xbox I think you'd see a lot more PS5 exclusive games, but they're not. As long as people are still buying PlayStation games, I don't think Sony cares much whether they're buying them for PS4 or PS5.

Oh, is that why Forza has been running circles around GT for the last decade and Sony had to pay Activision to pretend COD is a PS exclusive since they killed off Killzone?

LOL considering that Xbox accounts have cross purchase and crossplay, it makes Xbox consoles more attractive to own.
Hello
Astro's Playroom alone makes it more of a necessary purchase for me than Series X is.
I never had a ps4 so i needed a ps5 for all of those exclusives i wanted. But im def hanging on to my ps5 until they stop making games for it!

Then why is the PS5 outselling the Xbox Series by almost 3:1? If people want to play Xbox 'exclusives', they'll go to PC. They're not buying the consoles and that's Microsoft's problem.

As good as it is for PC gamers to have this option, it reduces the need for people to invest in Xbox hardware.

Because it was supply constrained for nearly two years, and plenty of PS5 games just want to play FIFA and COD.

May I remind you that Horizon Forbidden West is coming out for PC in a few days, and Sony is now more focused on bringing their first party games to PC too?

Both consoles were supply constrained and even though the Series S was easier to find, people still hunted for a PS5 over it. (The Series S unsurprisingly outsold the Series X).

Let's be honest: The Xbox One reveal conference is still haunting Microsoft. It was a disaster and Microsoft shot themselves in the foot and basically gifted the generation to Sony. People started their console digital libraries on PS4 and there's nothing pulling those gamers from the PS ecosystem to the Xbox side. Game Pass console subscriptions have stalled, it only seems to be the PC Game Pass subscriptions which are moving upwards.

Not sure what Horizon has to do with anything. I'm talking about Xbox releasing their games on PC on the same time as Xbox. If/when Sony does the same, they'll encounter the same issue with people being less willing to invest in the next gen of hardware.

No, but theres a wider audience than just the people who played Palworld. PS5 exclusives, Call of Duty, Fifa, NBA 2K.

Gaming consoles will probably never become obsolete, and whilst everyone owns a PC, most would prefer to play games on a dedicated gaming console.

Again, old way of thinking. A decade from now we won't distinguish new games by generation. We won't say "that's a PS6 game" or "that's a PS7 game." It'll just be a Playstation game, for Playststion consoles (plural). Games with steeper requirements may only run on newer consoles, and as time goes on fewer games will support older Playstations. This is how PC / Mobile gaming works now.
Umm no. The most useless console ever is probably RDI Halcyon (1985), also one of the rarest console ever. Never went into mass production because expensive lol

$2,500. Yup, two thousand five hundred dollars in the year nineteen eighty-five. For comparison NES launched for $180.

Oh please. You're completely giving Sony a pass by ignoring their anti-consumer behavior and the fact that they blocked crossplay live service games, and now arrogantly removing digital content others paid for. Plenty of people are also sheeple that only listen to what the media tells them is good, and if they're too stupid to realize the fact that MS removed the DRM and introduced consumer friendly features like reintroducing backwards compatibility, then that's their problem.

And plenty of people are waiting for the Activision deal to settle so they could get COD on Gamepass.

You do know that people can wait right? Even Sony themselves saw the writing on the wall and are shortening the length between the PS5 and PC releases. It's very telling that despite all the hype, the PS5 has a whopping 13 console exclusives, many of which are VR games LMAO.

Hello
Out of consoles Ive actually own, the Series S is by far the worst. You could store 3 games before space limitations. Then if you wanted to upgrade the space you were paying over 200 dollars at the time making it both more expensive then the Series X and PlayStation 5.

just a flat out awful console

Please tell me where I'm giving Sony a pass in my post? I just explained why customers aren't switching to Xbox. I think Sony removing digital content from their video services is abhorrent and I applaud Microsoft for their focus on backwards compatibility. These corporations aren't your friends, you don't need to defend them so much. They're here to sell you their next product. Microsoft has a massive history of anti-consumer behaviour as well as Sony. Neither company are angels. The Xbox One used games debacle was only rowed back because of the massive backlash to it. Who can forget Don Mattrick's "Just buy an Xbox 360" answer to the question about people without a solid Internet connection?

Sony was punished for their arrogance with the PS3 launch. Microsoft got a kicking for the Xbox One launch. Nintendo too, if we count the Wii U. The difference is that both Sony and Nintendo turned it around. Phil Spencer hasn't changed Xbox's fortunes.
