God I'd love to live where you guys live where grocery prices are going down.... Last month I damn near shit myself at the 23 CAD for a pack of 4 chicken breasts, compared to early last year when you could get them for 15 CAD. A single red onion where I live is 3 dollars, whereas last year it was 2 bucks.
Jesus Christ that is expensive for chicken

I had to convert that to Mercan dollars
Yeah, it's crazy here too and when I give prices people yell at me for lying lol

Ive never had to wait 20 minutes at McDonalds. Heck wait times have gone down in my area since they installed the multi-lane drive throughs.

This is in Australia though.

Yeah I've noticed. At that point you may as well do your own chicken tendies, burgers, and fries at home.

If that lady said it's due to wages increasing on a message board everyone would jump her and say how wrong she is.

Because she would be. Theres a reason people call these past few years greedflation.

Maybe heart attack grilles owner will finally get his wish.

But not really.
Their greed is finally getting in the way of their business models. Now if only we can get rid of shrinkflation within grocery stores and ideally lower their overinflated greed-based pricing.

I finally got a Taco Bell in my suburb. 3 Taco Supremes and 2 Pintos & Cheese is now over $15. I used to get it under $10.

Guess I'll make my own tacos from now on. Shouldn't be that difficult.

It has gotten stupid expensive. If it's gonna cost 25 bucks to feed two people I'd rather not. It being cheap used to be the draw, it's not good enough to justify premium prices

Exactly this.

I did McDonalds the other day.ordered two medium sized value meals, and the total was 24 dollars.

Tried BK last weekone medium sized value meal cost $16.50.

I can sit down in a restaurant and get decent food for that price.

If I'm going to eat tasty garbage I want to pay garbage prices. I'm not spending $20 at fucking Burger King. You gimmie a decent filling meal for $8 or I'll just go get something better.

Fast food has never been worth the price. Its bad for you and barely contains meaningful nutrients. My grocery has a bag of baby carrots for 99 cents, and I like carrots. Im sure everyone else can do the same.

I've never heard of death food so since it doesn't exist it would be obvious nobody is eating it.

Definitely have, it's usually cheaper to just get something better like pizza or Chinese than fast food nowadays lol. Just more reason for me to cut out fast food, which I've been working on doing anyway.

In my experience the problem isn't just that fast food is now expensive af, it's also that it's usually not even fast anymore. I usually have to wait 10+ minutes after ordering at mcdonalds for instance because online orders are prioritised (but those are even more expensive for cold food, assuming the delivery driver can even find your house).

Funny when people suggest that people use the app for cheaper prices. Not only are those prices often still more expensive than regular prices used to be, you're also paying with your personal information which is worth a lot more than the difference you get in price between with-app and without-app.

Not to mention, studies have shown that people who use apps end up spending even more money.

The loyalty program hooks you, which makes you feel like youre part of something great.

Its just a way for fast food to make more money.
Good.

The current model is unhealthy and unsustainable.

We really need to think about ways to improve the way we eat and distribute food. All this amazing technology and science has lead us to a world where we can guarantee healthy food security to every human being easily, but this is what we have.

The thing is, now these companies need to show growth. It's not enough to make massive profits every quarter, they need to show growth or investors and shareholders and owners will vote out or fire those in charge of operations and put in people that will increase the value one way or another.

By the way, the "inflation is cooling off" narrative is such bullshit. The rate of inflation, while reducing, is still above the average for the past few decades and it's inflation on top of the ridiculously high inflation spikes over the past few years. It's like saying "my debt is cooling off" because even though I'm taking on more debt, I'm taking on debt at a slower rate than before.

Yeah, I'd rather buy tamales at the grocery store than go to Taco Bell.

Taco bell prices have tripled over the past 20 years, with zero increase in food quality or portion size.

it's a good thing that people are eating less shitty fast food.

it's not a good thing that the main driver of this change is unchecked corporate greed.

I think it's more like a bubble. Like bubbles exist in all industries, the goal is to make sure they don't grow too much. When corporations start to feel the crunch and infinite wealth generation proves to be a lie or backers back out after they didn't hit projected numbers, this causes a rebound crunch where the company, in order to make their stocks remain strong start to rely on the tried and true methods: slower wage increases, cost increases, lay offs, stock-buy backs etc. But often times these only prop up a business a little more and they are artificial at best as the increase costs and less ability to maintain what they had start to hurt business operations leading to further losses. Thus always to MegaCorps

Im curious, how old are you? When you order, do you pay with a credit card? Because if so, they already have your information

Whenever I suggest use an app to save money, I always have this older generation of people who say things that you did.

Me: use an app to save money.

Old generations: its still more expensive than it used to be!

Me: theres this thing called inflation.

Gas station junk food has skyrocketed too.

Unfortunately I live a really unhealthy lifestyle in that I'm rarely home to cook and am driving often 8+ hours per day. I get fucked both ways because I end up eating garbage and getting taken to the cleaners for it.
