His campaign flopped harder than I thought, probably should have announced in January 2023 after the Rs disastrous midterm, thats when he had the most momentum, instead he waited and lost it all. Not sure if that would have even mattered though, Trump is just too popular

There's a case to be made that (among initially serious candidates with polling traction) he ran one of the single worst campaigns in modern American history. He was beating or even with Trump in early head-to-heads and had tons of momentum and ended his campaign barely beating Haley and well behind Trump.

The thing with Trump is that he's too stupid and insane to feel any shame whatsoever. Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis folds like a bitch under the slightest bit of pressure.

Trump isn't putting on a fake image. His obnoxious, loud and shitty personality is exactly who he is. DeSantis is just a guy desperately trying to create that image for himself, but failing miserably. It's actually pathetic how so many of his mannerisms just look like poor imitations of Trump.

Speaking as a Floridian with a half-decent long term memory, he's not bad, he's worse. Trump will ultimately do more lasting damage to the political landscape, but DeSantis is the only active political figure I genuinely hate more than Trump.
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.

Had some really strong social anxiety and OCD vibes, according to people who worked the Republican primaries. Bike racks between him and anyone not family, or on his staff. Off alone in a corner at events where he's supposed to be guest of honor, and shitfits if one thing was not as requested in the green room or on the dais.

Kind of hard to meet and greet people across a pretty large continent when you seemingly require all that.

Even before getting into his personal flaws, he was simultaneously running on being more electable than Trump and further right than Trump. It didn't make much sense. No voter going that far-right cared about electability to begin with.

He was waiting on his state to pass a law that allowed him to run without giving up the governors seat. That's why he waited to announce his run.

I guess in passing. They're a pretty big Trump supporter, so they were never really in DeSantis' corner to begin with. But would always say "If Republicans could get someone that has Trump's policies but not his baggage, they would win in 2024" and initially thought that person was DeSantis.
