i was getting paid 42k at a nonprofit I worked for, and I just had an interview for a data analytics position that pays 65k + quarterly bonuses.

this was a second interview and the guy seemed hella fuck bored with me but said he would have HR send me an offer letter by Monday.

WTF

Congratulations ? You going to accept it?
So I was standing still at a stationary store...
Hopefully they actually send the offer. I have a friend that has been job hunting for months and four or five times he has come out of interviews with the expectation of an offer only to get ghosted.
If that's in the same location with similar cost of living, that's great!

Well this new job definitely requires more experience and is an industry Im not at all familiar with, so itll probably take me a while to fully grasp what Im doing. But my old job was working with teenagers with anger management problems so its probably not that bad

Yeah Ive had this happen to me as well. Trying not to jinx it but (non-labor-intensive / dangerous field and factory) work in my town is not super easy to come by so they might go with someone else

How the fuck do you go from Social Work to Data Analysis with no experience in the field and come out with an offer with no questions asked!?

I think my problem is that I'm too honest out of fear that I'd get the job but be unprepared or that they would preemptively expect more of me than I'm capable of without allowing me time to train and get familiar. I think it'd be worse to actually get the job and then be fired within a week because I can't do the job.

well my masters degree concentration is in quantitative analysis. Technically for education, but a lot of the work is transferable I think. I did social work because working directly in the education system with kids is a passion of mine and the nonprofit had a mission I believed in. Dream goal one day is to do work with a big government education agency or even like a school board.
But for now the private sector calls.

I do know how to use all the software mentioned, and how to do the research needed I just havent used those skills in a few years. I hope I dont come off as incompetent and get fired lmao.

Yeah, I had a Zoom interview last week for a job in a position that I haven't actually done in over twelve years. I've been in the industry and similar environments, but it's been a long time since I've had to do those specific duties. Also a tremendous leap in market and the the technology has probably changed within that period as well. Of course, they should have been aware of this from my resume, but I was very unprepared for the questions they had for me. Really don't think I preformed well, and I just don't have it in me to bullshit my way through even if I wanted to.
Im really worried Im not getting the job lmao
i was legit really looking forward to it

I mean my wife kinda "lied about her skillset" to get an accounting job early on her job search with zero accounting experience and got fired after two months... so not to be a negative, but if you don't think you can do the job, don't risk shooting yourself in the foot by lasting two months in the new job and then getting axed and not being able to go back to your current job.

If you're talking about just fudging the truth a little bit, then yeah that's understandable, everyone does that. My wife straight up claimed to have some talent in bookkeeping and was "good with numbers" which was enough to get her the job. Big difference between fudging/embellishing vs. straight up lying.

Did something change? They told you Monday, it's not Monday yet.
Cupcake
Well they said by Friday morning, Monday at the very latest.

There's still time and you can always follow up on Tuesday. If they're not able to get you back because they forgot, don't want to call you for whatever reason, or too busy it's probably not a place you want to work anyway. It's a small consolation but I hope it makes you feel better over the weekend.

I had the same thing with my past interview. Said they'd be in contact this week one way or the other. Of course, they told me I'd hear from them about the interview itself in January and I didn't get the email until mid February.

The recruiters lie constantly. I've been told that scheduling can take months, and then ask for an interview the next day. That they always give a reason for rejecting.
The only thing that matters is when you need to show up.

Well, they told me this week and it's 11:20pm on Friday and I still haven't heard from them

Also, I performed very poorly in the interview so I don't have high hopes. I'd still like to hear a denial over a ghosting, though.

I thought I was ghosted for a month and then the recruiter called me to tell me sorry, everyone was on vacation but I got the job. I ended up doubling my income which was pretty epic.

That's cool. I've been in situations where I've been contacted late as well. The current position is a respectable company and from my interview it seemed they were all on the up and up. It's frustrating and disappointing, but it's also an industry that sees rapid changes that require immediate attention. So a part of me can justify it.
Updates?

Heard back this morning.
Due to market shifts and whatnot, theyre revising the pay structure for new employees, and I wont qualify for regular quarterly bonuses (but still performance-based ones). I should be hearing from HR today

Still not believing it until I step foot in the office tbh

Still a decent update despite the pay drop. Obviously tempering expectations is correct, but it's probably a good sign that they gave you an update like that at all vs. just saying you didn't get the job. Would be weird to give that pay update if they weren't planning on moving forward with you.
