I liked the way Nier did it
GTag/PSN: MechaknightX [][]
A golden butter knife does not win wars...
HUD changing and noise. Not sure which of most closely fits it. iirc Skyrim was one of the ones to do something like that.

I like them all tbh. It just depends on the game.
Alive, then dead (Ghost Recon)
My friends call me Vee.
I'm not your friend, buddy.
I like the character art to indicate it. Like FF games have the character kneeling. Showing the character bleeding, injured or breathing hard or something is better. Stuff that constantly flashes, slows you down or makes sounds is just annoying.
And as her clothes all tumbled 'round her, I could hear my heart
The moonlight shown upon her as she lay back in my bed
That annoying beep from the old Pokemon games. Nightmare fuel right there

sounds about right

or dying as soon as you get behind cover, despite taking a whole lot of shots at 0 health on the way to cover

This, most of the things TC listed are incredibly obnoxious and stupid.
equo ne credite!
I can see for myself when my health meter gets low, I don't need an annoying and distracting feature telling me so.

if it suits the game, pause it, with the particular character stating "omg, I'm dying".

otherwise turning the screen red and muffling the sounds seems like one of the best ways, being both atmospheric and informative
Voted for flashing health meter

I prefer very minimal indication, if at all. Such as a bloody-face avatar (Quake) or a red health meter/health percent.

KH wasn't that obnoxious. I never had a low health problem with those games. In fact, I found it 10x annoying in Zelda
Whatever would best describe Starfox 64. That game indicated danger perfectly.

I came into this topic expecting poll options to be stuff like call them by phone, tell them in person, email, and so forth. Oddly, it didnt even occur to me this was about games.
Other: a meter depicting your health level.
No locked doors, no windows barred. No more things to make my brain seem SKARD.
Faded colors, muffled noise ( Uncharted) - Less obnoxious.

Blood splats or some color change that doesn't interfere with the music or audio.

Obnoxious is actually the perfect term to describe it. But not for the intended reason. In the etymological sense of visible.

I question how easy games are where people feel some ui change isn't necessary to note when the player is almost dead. In challenging content you can't afford to be watching your health bar the entire time.

I'd probably say "single alarm" since it only sounds when you get hit.

Nothing makes me shit my pants more than the "severely low health" sound it makes.

fyi: it isn't blood "splatter" , it's blood "spatter"
Other: A fucking HP meter (like Overwatch and PUBG).

It's a little more than that, though. There's the increasingly frantic single alarms, there's the smoke coming out of the ship, there's the rumble, there's the impairment to flying if you've lost a wing... Taking heavy damage in that game was an immersive, visceral experience, which was amazing.

Really is a little bit of everything tbh

Probably a vote for "other"

I love the faded colors thing. Seen a few games do it, really drives home you're getting low.

All of these. I can tell when I'm near death if you just give me a health bar and let me monitor it myself. Beeping, flashing, and other such distracting shit is not needed at all.
Just a health bar or HP numbers will do. Alarm ones like KH are just a headache and absolutely loathe the color change ones like Tomb Raider.
