Ehh, it's hard to feel sympathy when someone gets shot dead for charging towards police with a knife. This was probably a case of suicide by popo, the kid was clearly fighting mental illness. A taser would have been better, but we literally have no idea how the scene went down and it's entirely reasonable that the police weren't able to ensure their own safety had a taser been attempted.
I only came here to see what pronoun we're supposed to use for non-binaries. Apparently we default to "he"...
Can we get a picture of the knife? If we're talking about a Swiss Army knife, the gun is over the top. If homebody pulled out a Crocodile Dundee-sized buck knife, the shots may have been warranted.

Suicidal depression usually is treated, but the mental health infrastructure isn't there to catch every possible case. It is indeed something the US (among many other countries) needs to work on.
