I learned about this place recently and am flabbergasted as to why you would design a town like this even outside of a place where hurricanes are a regular occurrence. Seems like it would be miserable to drive any where and that 9 months out of the year there would be a sea of bugs everywhere

Cape Coral has a strange history. after WWII that part of florida was still wilderness. That is when two men came in a bought all that land, and being the brilliient bussinussmen scammers they are came up with a scheme to get people to move to that wasteland, in the process a whole town was built that is all part of the 1950's suburbia. They made bank and died rich. The canals was all part of their plan, they went to venice and decided they wanted their town to be like that. Having waterways in deadend is a bad idea all those canals are full of toxic stagnent water, which is the least of that towns problems.

so yeah cape coral was an elaborate snake oil plot to sell off land to rich people. It was a lot of work building that town but in the end we got cape coral out of it.
