They did a good job making it feel like a movie instead of just an extended episode. It also has one of my favorite moments I've experienced at the theatre when they showed Bart's penis the whole place went wild with laughter.
As stated though, it came out when the shows momentum had dropped significantly and the humor was very hit and miss much like the show at the time. It wasn't a bad film, it looked great and had some good moments but as an overall it was about what you would expect at the time.
