Pretty much anything you do in the first two games has a payoff of some sort in the third. Great game overall but I wish they did some things differently.

Disagree.

90% of the "payoff" was just a number.

And 8% was just an email.

Only a handful of choices have a payoff in 3. Garrus/Tali/Wrex being alive. Tali/Leigon's loyalty missions etc.

It is a great game for the most part but the opening 2 hours and ending 2 hours are awful.

They also just plum forgot the plot of the previous 2 games.

The size of the balls to do a color pallette swap at the very end of "Your Choices Matter: The Trilogy" is still mind boggling.

Especially considering they explicitly came out and said it wasn't going to be a generic a, b, or c ending and then it was.... red, blue, or green instead! lol

Honestly, as a huge Mass Effect fan who lived through it all, I found the whole ending controversy very overblown.

However, I was at the time (and kinda still am) a firm believer in the Indoctrination Theory, which definitely played a part in that (The 3 hour-long IT videos analyzing the trilogy were incredible tbh. Respect to the guy who made them).

Their reasoning was to focus on single player. That it was hard to get it working properly and whether to spend time getting crossplay working between Playstations or just segment the community, etc... If you believe that reasoning or not though is a different question.

by focusing on singleplayer they meant spruce me1 up a bit to look desirable in trailers, do nothing with the other two and leave bugs that have been well known for over a decade in all three games

Until then you're camped out at the ammo boxes because its low level variants run out of ammo after killing 10 enemies.

The Hurricane was a similar weapon among SMGs that wrecked enemies up close, IF you could control the recoil of the thing.

I think that it would have taken ~1,000 hours to max out your manifest if you were playing with randoms.

Andromeda then tried to have 10x to 100x that amount of grind and people quickly dumped it.

Not sure if you'd have any luck. Haven't played on PS3 since the legendary edition came out, but when i did, I had to take my PS3 offline, otherwise ME3 was perpetually trying to connect to the EA servers and I could never make it to the menu screen.

Great games that I replayed and love but at launch when I completed the game and assumed the other endings would be dramatically different only for the only difference was in the color of the explosion and who survives on the Normandy I remember almost throwing the game out.

If not for the phenomenal multiplayer I would of tossed it. Playing through the legendary edition I actually ended up really enjoying the trilogy again even ME3, the patched ending and added dlc does improve it somewhat.

Speaking of ME3 on Wii U, that was my first Mass Effect game. Didn't have a console that could play the games until the Wii U, so I got ME3 with it. In hindsight, having played the whole trilogy, it was quite an amusing experience with all the standard stand-ins instead of carry over characters. The salarian who takes over Mordin's role Joker keeps referring to as Not-Mordin. When you do the mission to cure the genophage and he dies during it Joker, going full Seth Green, goes "I'm sorry about Not-Mordin." and Shepard, very sternly, goes "His name was Paddoks Wiks." as if this npc was somehow significant.

I didn't know who the fuck Wrex was so when that comic comes up saying "this fucking guy was upset and rebelling against your plan what do you do?" I just go "fuck that guy, I have a galaxy to save"

I remember the old Bioware forums absolutely melting down when word got out that ME3 would have multiplayer, and then it ended up being arguably the best part of the game.
While I never complained about it publicly, I can relate.

Adding MP was so bizarre. Of all of the game series out there, ME was not one that I thought needed MP. It was a SP game and was always known for that. I thought, "Man, what a useless addition".

Then, one of my friends was like "Have you tried MP? It's actually fun.", so I tried it and, like a lot of people, realized it was surprisingly great.

I think TLoU is another one of those games that surprised people with pulling a multiplayer rabbit out of hat to great success. But yeah, ME3 is why I don't jump to conclusions, or rather, try not to, about new game modes existing in games.

My biggest problem with Mass Effect 3 was that it felt like Bioware decided, we're telling the story we want based on the choices we feel are right, and if you made the wrong ones we'll make up some BS so it still plays out the same way anyway.

Let Mordin die in ME2? Fine, here's another Salarian who's also just as capable of making a genophage cure. Also, it's not Mordin's student from the loyalty mission in ME2, because he could be dead too.

Kill the Rachni Queen in ME1? Oh well the Reapers can just make their own synthetic Rachni so you still have to go do the Rachni mission.

Destroy the human reaper at the end of ME2 so the Elusive Man couldn't get it? Turns out there was enough left that he got it anyway.

By the time I got to the "your choice changes the colour pallet of the ending cutscene" ending, I was already completely numb to Mass Effect 3 throwing the "your choices matter" gimmick out the window.

It really helps that the multiplayer wasn't PVP, so they could go really crazy with the new classes. I recall some balance changes, like nerfing the Harrier or changing some level geometry so you couldn't do Geth/White/Gold but it wasn't a huge deal. Making all the dlc free to was a good move.

like I said earlier the lead writer that wrote the first 2 game left and was replaced by Casey Hudson

the whole synthetic v organics angle was added by him, the OG writer had a different idea and thats why some things like the dark energy theory from talis mission ended up being nothing in me 3

Indoctrination theory sucks.

It's basically just a modified "It was all a dream."

It's only benefit is it just sidesteps and goes "That shitty ending didn't happen so just make up your own one." which you can do just as easy without Indoctrination theory.

Note: BTW I'm not knocking the fans who came up with it. I 100% get the desire. But I just can't pretend it's good.
