My brother is constantly complaining about how the liberal party in Canada has ruined things. He costantly sends me dumbass Instagram reels making fun of the libs. He'll try to goad me into debating with him by saying "you voted for this!".

He now won't shut up about the liberals budgetary plan that was announced yesterday.

I honestly refuse to argue with him. I just keep saying "ok" or "yeah, that's crazy".

Provincial politics affects us more. You know. The delivery to that budget

I understand that. But when that's all someone talks about, it makes the relationship appear completely one sided

Mom.

She absolutely despised Biden. She hated him initially running against Trump. She hated him winning. She hated him as president. Even now still, she brings him up as a problem. Its been like 5-6 years of her constantly complaining about Biden for hours every day.

So that simply became Trump praise after he was elected. Though, each time I'd show her his awful policies and illegal things he was doing. Now she mostly keeps quiet about it. Just usually very loudly plays fake news videos when I'm near. But she can't really argue with facts any more, and I can tell it's really getting to her even though she's been quiet recently.

Then educate him on what matters more. Change how he looks at it. Depending on which province you live. The budget can be good or bad

If you bring up Biden Derangement Syndrome and rent free she might stop.

A cousin once removed. We don't talk to him anymore because he's become a QAnon nutter who doesn't talk about anything but his conspiracy theories and Trump worship. He's got nothing else going on in his life.

It's sad that lonely people are devoting their lives to this con man who thinks of them as nothing but trash.

My dad regularly listens to Ben Shapiro's podcasts, and my mom constantly, constantly, doomscrolls through Instagram videos of random people complaining about democrats, transgender people, etc.

They also have a habit of falling for conspiracy theories, like that time in 2023 when some people on social media were claiming a routine test of the emergency broadcast system would contain some sort of mind control signal, and that we should keep our phones turned off that day. Also, whenever there's a news story about a shooting, the first thing my parents want to know is if the shooter is trans or knows someone who's trans.

My parents have always been conservative, but they've become really obnoxious and unpleasant since the pandemic.

Nobody wants to waste their time arguing with that bullshit when they don't have to.

Good thing it's his brother and not a random. A random I would walk away from

The only place I hear it is here, and a little at work. Ive never heard my family ever talk about it even though I know they always vote. Im 49 years old and I know my dad votes religiously but never heard a peep about politics from him or what way he votes. We have never had a single conversation about it and Im glad. I have my suspicions as he believes in vaccines and science and helping people who need it but I dont truly know.

Generally if a person wont stop talking about politics I wont engage with them at all. Thankfully in real life that hasnt been an issue for me. I take it back. One woman I know that I actually was involved with for a couple years is fully political now. Thats all she talks about. I ignore it. The guys at work only do it a little and they know I dont participate. For me its all about sports, movies, video games, and fun stuff. Like once in a blue moon a random at the grocery store will just make a political comment to me and I dont respond and just keep moving. I think people like that are fucking weird.

I'm the opposite to you. I think it matters that one should talk about issues that affect them. Not thinking or discussing politics means you can't discuss economics either. They are closely tied.

I only gripe on real scandals though. Not to the point of irritations. That's a bit too much.
