Maybe now would be a good time for us to take a break from saving Pharloom and have a much needed rest to refresh ourselves for the adventures ahead.

I wouldn't recommend this, you're gonna spend a lot of hours exploring with no yields if you were pretty thorough. I think 10-20 hours of my 65 hours in the game were spent just double checking places and trying everything to see if there was a secret. It's a bit obnoxious when you're at 95% and you just have no clue where the things are. Maybe aim for hints, I'd recommend.

How else can I organically reach 100%? I don't want to refer to a guide. I am trying to do this as vanilla as possible. Guides must be a last resort.

I asked for hints from a friend and that was enough for me. I was the same way, no guides, no hints, all by myself, but if you think it's fine to spend HOURS exploring to find...one tool that you may have overlooked while double checking, it's not worth the time spent. Definitely go the hint way if you can at least to cope a bit.

Alright, beat the game.

As I expected from playing the first game, Grandmother Silk was not that tough, but she was fun. Though I'm only assuming that the "real" end boss is fought after her like the first one. Lace before her was tougher.

Beginner's luck is some real shit though. I damn near no-hit the first phase, then died like eight times.

I guess now I just keep doing sidequests and stuff? I might actually try and get that cursed ending, she wasn't tooooooo too hard.

Make sure you get the flea caravan to move to their final location too, in the Petrified Ducts.

So I know I was bitching about the game before. But the fight against Widow was awesome. Took about 10 tries.

Also, beat the secret Moss Mother duo. That wasn't as fun as Widow though. More annoying.

It's not an entirely linear path to him.

Man, the festival in fleatopia was fun but depressing as they have lost hope for Pharloom. But I got the Pale Oil.

Also finally done with Coral Tower. The first 3 gauntlets were annoying but the last one and the final boss were done in just my first try.

I also just did that part too. The mothers being infected by the black void made it so hard. But once I killed one of them the other one couldnt even touch me so that was a relief

Seems like the intended design of having these hefty gauntlets, followed by a shortcut unlock and far simpler boss.

I just did a gauntlet down in Far Fields. the lava one. this game does this thing where it really likes playing with zone denial. whatever, fine. i hate it, it's not for me, but fine. but then after that annoying midair gauntlet, the lava rising? along with actual dead ends and enemies shooting at you?

it only took me 3 tries but personally, it was anti-fun. during the second try i told myself if the reward was a mask fragment or spool fragment, i'd be done. because it would be the least respectful and incentivizing thing for doing this mid-late game optional thing. well, it was a mask fragment

its hard to feel like the design philosophy respects the players time

I can't decide if I agree or not. I alternate between love and hate. But honestly I am surprised that you don't enjoy some of these bosses. Like, the fights against Sister Splinter and Widow were awesome (yes, I am still act 1). Not sure what more you can expect from 2D bosses.

those bosses were fine, but i havent felt any of the bosses to be rewardingly complex, or satisfying to beat, let alone master

when i die, i dont feel like i died because of a misplay. when i win, i feel nothing because i never felt the boss was "a challenge" to begin with

its not a genre i tend to play, but Dead Cells comes close. there were bosses in HK1 i enjoyed, and actually 1 boss in this one come to think of it (but moreso because thematically it was cool, it wasnt a very challenging or rewarding fight)

Yeah, Dead Cells is more of a roguelike with very mild Metroidvania aspects

i think mechanically it fits in with hollow knight, just not gameplay loopically

the only boss i dont care for in dead cells is the collector

I think I was pretty miffed when I did that segment too. I'll have to find the recording, because I had a similar thought, it's gonna be something decent but damn the deflation was real when I saw it was a fucking mask fragment.

Don't watch too much past that tiny segment where I get mad about the fragment, you might get spoiled since I look at the map a lot.

But yeah they set up that zone to be something good and a mask fragment definitely isn't worthy. First time seeing it with the faces on the walls and how long it takes AND a gauntlet with some sort of metroid exploding world thing it seemed like it would be something on par with a new crest or some sort of tool.

Not gonna lie after watching myself I definitely think I should've had more...upgrades before going there like the double jump, probably would've helped a lot more haha.

I actually enjoyed that particular gauntlet as well as the escape sequence. The way this game can throw unfair situations at you from time to time keeps me interested otherwise it would be too boring.

I think there are definitely a few spots in the game where they could more clearly gatekeep things. That gauntlet is one of them. It's just frustratingly difficult without certain upgrades, but then it's not too bad once you get those upgrades.

Skarrsinger Karmelita is kinda hot. There, I said it.

Her fight's good too.

Just beat Skarsinger Karmelita. Fun fight for the most part but phase 3 gets crazy. And yeah, she is hot. I actually got 4 hearts now cause I also beat the Green Prince. I think I am almost there now.

Aw man, I was checking what stuff you can miss before I do what I think moves into act 3 and apparently I've already missed a fight with Garmand.

Okay, the game is just taking the piss on this one.

You buy a map of fleas in the Citadel from the girl. This map shows a flea beneath the Underworks, not the Citadel, but sure. So you go to the Underworks and look around, whacking every wall, roof, and floor around it until you give up and google it.

Turns out this flea cannot be accessed from the Underworks at all. Instead you have to go through Wisp Thicket, a sub-area only accessible by climbing into the asscrack heights of Greymoor. You can only enter it by double jumping - an ability you get long after you can fully map Greymoor - up through a tiny little spot in an innocuous room that only stands out because there's two inches of wall sticking down through a bush and it's low light in that room, so you can only see that if you jump up once.

So then after you dodge some dogshit torch sprite enemies and beat a boss that is both boring and infuriating, you explore Wisp Thicket and still see no way up. Turns out the way into Underworks from here is through a breakable wall behind another breakable wall.

How on God's green fucking earth were you ever meant to find that just by naturally exploring? Just how the fuck?

And honestly, I think three of the four fleas I had to look up were all kind of bullshit. The one in Mount Fray was similarly hidden up through a spot you had to jump through and it was frozen solid, so you didn't even have the noise to clue you in that it was there.

I will give credit for that one actually being accessible from Mount Fray though because just like the Underworks, the one in Putrified Ducts can only be accessed through a hidden entrance in the Whispering Vaults.

I did the Wisp Thicket in Act 2 too.

Alright, put in maybe an hour of attempts at Grandmother Silk with the curse.

Definitely, definitely doable, but I've been playing for like eight hours at this point and it's almost time for bed. I had a few attempts get very close, but then I'd immediately fuck up in the next three lol.

Damn, Lost Lace is becoming a pain. I can get past phase 1 but phase 2 gets crazy and the annoying part is the void coming from the ground and Lace being invisible behind it

Yesterday was productive and boring. I fought several more bosses

i found a couple more areas and keys. saved the mantis. finished more quests. unlocked more still

just gunning it to finish ASAP. still get lost often tho

Its in The Slab. Look for a room with a chest and check the ceiling. You need the key of the Apostate to reach that area too I think.

That makes sense. I found a whole new area in that biome last night by realizing I'd walked past a door like thirty times.

Running out of bosses, I think I just have some mechanical heart bits left to grab and it's time to clear this bitch.

I was doing pretty well this morning, but they're beating the shit out of me now with very obvious and telegraphed attacks.

Ah. I'm still annoyed that I misunderstood the timing of the quest for when you need to do the fight that way.

I will say, I could do without the long-ass intro and phase transition on this boss.
