never said i hated it

its just very very over rated outside of nostalgia it has nothing going for it

later seasons did every thing it did better

having actual characters with flaws and character development

villains who have plans beyond torment the rangers for fun

actually having a narrative theme across the seasons and each season has its own narrative theme

now why do you hate the idea that later seasons can be better written

Sure, a lot of episodes were pretty bad BUT we had The Green Ranger who solo'd the Power Rangers, something no monster could do.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers isn't still popular because it was bad though.

Worth noting, the rumors of Toei wanting to rebrand Super Sentai has been going for a couple years now. They were even looking at doing it this year for Gozyuger before changing their mind. This just seems to confirmation that they're finally going ahead with it after wrapping up 50 years with a nice anniversary tribute. With the recent push of Kamen Rider to international markets (with Zeztz's producer confirming Toei would like this to be the new standard for that show), the idea the rebrand is part of a loophole to get around Hasbro's Power Rangers contract makes a lot of sense. Toei wants their tokusatsu brands to see the worldwide success Tsubaraya has seen with Ultraman, which means Hasbro needs to be cut out.

I sincerely hope that at the very least we get some kind of replacement tokusatsu series to round out the Super Hero Time block, whether it is something new or a revival of an old Toei tokusatsu.

I think they still might have at the suggestion of Bandai. Super Sentai toy sales faced a sharp decline once they could no longer include Power Rangers toy sales under the Super Sentai banner.

that happened entirely because bandai was releasing such cheap products in the west

rather than just release the sentai toys in the west they made worse versions to sell in the west

That's crazy. I was just reading about super sentai earlier this week to try and understand how america's mighty morphin series fit with Japan's. I was shocked to learn that the footage from mighty morphin was actually season 16 of the Japanese series.

Always assumed PR would retire before Sentai.

I feel PR fell off for a lot of reasons, a lot of them being just that it stopped being this edgy violent kids franchise that parents hated and it just became a kids franchise.

When my little nephew went through his Power Rangers phase, it wasn't the new stuff as much as reruns of Mighty Morphin on Netflix. It seems like 90's kitsch is strangely timeless as far as appeal to kid's.

Instead of trying to recapture that market, it's weirdly marketed at nostalgic adults now ... which is fine but it's still more of a niche.

You never gave the other shows a chance, by your own words. How can you say they never piqued your interest? That's like me saying KingOhger - Gozyuger are the worst even though I never sat through those shows. Sure I tapped out early on, but I'm not gonna say they are the worst. If anything, I'd say Ninninger/Ninja Steel is the worst, and I sat through both of those shows.

Dragonzord Battle Mode is cool, don't get me wrong. But there are much better Megazords, especially dino themed.

Show me one episode where any villain solo'd the whole team like Tommy did.

Ninja Storm Thunder Rangers, even though there was two of them



The Megazord and Dragonzord were the two best zords in Power Ranger history and are the two most popular to this day.

They are the best because of nostalgia, and that's it. Take away the nostalgia and they aren't close to being the best.

I've actually cooled off a bit on the Dragonzord in recent years. Seeing it in motion, it's hard not to notice that its body is a giant black slab of plastic. Sort of makes me think of a refrigerator lol. Especially up close, you can see how scuffed it looks at time, and not in a "battered mech" kinda way. Design is still rad though, just not as amazing as when I was younger.

Daizyujin though is still a GOAT tier design, nostalgia be damned. The only other combining dino mech that comes close is Ryusoulger's, though I'm mixed on how blatantly "lego" it looks. Abaranger's mechs were kinda awkward and clunky (and I can't get over one whole arm being just a spear.) Kyoryuger's had some cool elements but I don't care for how "biased" the design is towards the t-rex.

For non-combining mechs though, the V-Rex is probably my favorite dino.

I've found that these types of details make me like these things more fun instead of less fun. Maybe I'm just weird, but when I reached the point in every man's life when he realizes that people wrestling is scripted, that just made it better, lol.
