That's not a player death dude.

Zelda series as a whole. If you reject any sources outside of the games, then you'd still have SkeleLink teaching you all the fancy moves in Twilight Princess.

You're thinking of story

Player death is when you die/fail in gameplay. So in LA's Noires case it would be like losing a random shoot out or running yourself over.

If that happens, it's not canon and the game just resets.

TC means when a character dies due to player action and not scripted. Is the death caused by the player incorporated into the story and lore or just hand-waved as a natural aspect of gameplay.

FF4 After Years has a few party members that can die for real if the player loses during certain sections of the game.

The Messenger
There's a character (Quarble) that revives you and taunts you on every death.

Ocarina of Time technically. There's a timeline split depending on if Link dies or beats Ganon. Also, Hero's Shade in TP is likely The Hero of Time.

Soul Reaver. Not only are Raziels "deaths" canon, but sometimes integral to progressing through the game.

I was going to say both of these

SMT4 Apocalypse this is kind of true too. The MC dies near the beginning of the game and is revived as part of the story, but also afterward every gameplay death results in a cutscene basically saying you can just revive again the same way you did at the beginning of the game

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor/Wardor

Legend of Dragoon kind of? Lavitz dying and dying again in the afterlife

Outward plays around with this a bit; you don't actually die, but "deaths" trigger events with various consequences. Dying to a monster might get you trapped in their den because they dragged you back to feed on later, or bandits might sell you to a slave camp on the other side of the map and confiscate all of your gear.

The main penalty becomes the loss of time (in world and in real life) as all the main quests have a timer. Each event will cost you different amounts of time, so if you hit a string of bad luck you might lose several days (or weeks) of in game time and be forced to rush forward to your next story quest or risk getting a bad ending.

iirc there are a few events that only happen if tendency is the highest, lowest, and then slightly before lowest

Full Throttle has something very similar to this

Final Fantasy Legend II (I think part of the SaGa series released with FF branding in the US) has a god revive you up until the point you kill that god, then you have to load a save if you wipe.

Rogue Legacy

I don't know if anyone else has played Metal Unit, but I think it qualifies.

The main character, Joann, is a phenomenal mech pilot but also has a terminal illness. You find out later in the story that her "real" body is in stasis, and every time you die, a new clone of her is created with no memories of any of her deaths. Her missions start over when you kick the bucket, and at the end of the story campaign, you see a massive field of Joann's bodies as she dies yet again, but this time, there is hope.

Final Fantasy Seven

Shadow Hearts bad ending (where one of the characters dies) is the canon ending that leads to Shadow Hearts 2.
