I'm surprised I could get into gamefaqs tbh.

I tried a google meet call with my mom, I don't think shes getting the notifications (I tried like 40 times, no hyperbole).
I tried texting my sister over facebook, I couldn't log into my account and I'm locked out of the feature to use my email.

I leave a trail of breadcrumbs wherever I go for just such an emergency.

i hope you can get ahold of them somehow. we're all lost without our family

a phone call maybe the only way to get ahold of them in the worse case (better hope they got landline/cell/smart phones).

You might be able to use something like WhatsApp to text from your computer.

I downloaded WhatsApp (never used it before) and I'm immediately blocked because it requires a phone to activate. :\

Maybe try emailing your mom? Do you remember their phone numbers? You can try calling them through a friend or a stranger.

I was able to text my sister via facebook, but I think shes at work or something.

I can harvest my mom's phone number from the Meet app. I also have roommates but were not on speaking terms right now so I don't want to bug them. That might be my last resort though.

Not laughing at you or anything or putting you down but as an "old" person who has never had a cellphone in my life and just uses a landline it is always wild to me how many people don't know phone numbers of important stuff in their head.

Like I know my dad, grandparents, close friends, work, doctors office, pharmacy, any place I use regularly I just know all of those numbers in my head and it is always wild to me when people have a phone issue and like don't know their parents number.

Again I get it in a cellphone world where people change numbers and everyone is just used to it being programmed but it still is something that is hard to grasp to me.

Back in my day we had these contraptions called payphones. They were kinda gross, but they were useful in a pinch.

But don't feel too bad, sonny. Back then people still didn't remember people's numbers. Had these things called phone books.

I used to remember phone numbers and had a strong preference to landlines, I guess I just got complacent.

Do you have any idea where you may have lost the phone? Think of the last time you saw it.

Are you home and just cant find it, or did you lose it else where? Have you checked your car (if you have one), and under, and between its seats?

Sadly I dont even have the option to live like this. My phone is required for work. Not that Id ever get rid of it. People always say how valuable it is to have google in your pocket and theyre right. But if I just planned more before leaving the house I probably wouldnt need it as much.

I back up my contacts to the pc. It really hasn't changed in 5y. That even has a backup. It's largely people tied to the business. Feed store (No longer need). Hay guy. He's 90 and retired. Tractor repair guy. He also retired when his wife had cancer. Various friends etc

I went out for a walk, so I might have left it somewhere. I retraced my steps last night and couldn't find it.

I assume you don't have another device logged in to your google/apple account to use the find my device feature?

My phone was too outdated for that to work.

I believe if your phone is logged into google, you can use google to find your phone.

Edit: Oh, nevermind, guess that didn't work, sorry.

I was incorrect, I tried the find your phone thing on my laptop and was able to call it.

It's not that people change cell numbers all the time. It's the fact that people use all of their contacts as a speed dial so they never type in the number when they make a phone call. This leads to never memorizing the number. If you put your friends number in your landlines speed dial then you'd probably forget it eventually.

That's great news. In the future, let me suggest a password manager app. It allows you to safely save log in info, phone numbers, notes, etc in the app and use it across phones and computers. All you need to remember is one secure password to access the app itself. I use 1Password at work and home and it's saved my butt a few times.

I mentioned that everyone was used to it being programmed. I'm aware they use contacts/speed dial which is why I said it was programmed. I only mentioned people changing numbers because this is the Internet where everyone always tries to correct you and come up with scenarios to oppose what you wrote so since I have known multiple friends who have in fact changed numbers for various reasons when switching phones/companies/contracts I thought I would mention it.

That's fair. Gotta cover all your bases. Years ago it was a lot more common to change your number up when getting new phones or changing carriers. It's gotten a lot easier now to carry your number around with you.

and are you doing anything to make sure youre not screwed the next time you lose your phone?
