A mix of do not judge something by looks with a broader message of be open to new experiences.

It targeted towards children who are notorious picky eaters.

The point of the story is show how absurd Sam is in his stubbornness. His stubborness is very akin to a young child's.

Edit it forgot Sam I Am is the one offering not refusing to eat.
