Lately I have been seeing a bunch of victory point BS.

Play X Rounds, generate victory points by doing Y.

It would be kinda neat if they made advance wars a board game, just get money build units and fight.

Hero Quest, mostly intact

I enjoy a competitive game of Monopoly although the banker usually always ends up cheating

I had that game as a kid, but I have no idea what happened to it.

I own a board game called Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood thats pretty interesting. Its a tabletop RPG that got really good reviews but I havent played it myself quite yet.

is. Check it out if you havent seen it before.

I had that pokemon game too. I don't remember what I did but I know I modified it to provide more rpg elements. Was a hit.

I have a huge collection but it's mostly the victory point stuff you don't like

I used to have this, must have gotten thrown out when I got to the age when I thought I was too old to be liking Pokmon (like 11 or so). Wish I still had it now.

Most of the "Tiny Epic" games are like this. Try Tiny Epic Pirates or Tiny Epic Mechs.

There's also Talisman but you don't really build anything you just make your dude stronger until you can kill the other players.

I have a game called Cutthroat Caverns that I love! It is a cooperative yet competitive deck building game where you're all working together to kill monsters, but the only one who gets credit for the kill is the one who hits it last.

The monster has abilities that can harm everyone and you have cards that damage the monsters or hinder your teammates to try and get the last hit. So sometimes you end up actually all wiping out as people are trying to win, and the monster wipes the party.

cuttthroat caverns sounds really cool, as does tiny epic, I played a KH version of talisman and it was really cool. I won that IIRC.

Axis and Allies I want to check out too.

Oh there's also Small World which has a computer version as well so you can get a general idea of what the game is like. It's a little bit like risk except it's played in finite turns.

Yeah it's victory points but the main vector that you acquire these points is by fighting other players.
