honestlyBarts and Butts are both bad names for a character. Aeris just sounds more regal, like heiress. And since shes the last of an ancient people, and magical, it fits even better imo.

The kana in his name can be also read as "Claude Strauss", which is a real-world German name, but was intentionally read as Cloud to fit the theme of his character arc.

That's a mistranslation that was simply never corrected and just became the official localization. Aeris was always wrong. If you hack the game to put her in your party before the name entry screen, it actually defaults to Aerith. It's ONLY on that screen where it's incorrectly spelled with an S.

It's very cringe in 13 that their summons correspond to their elemental character names. Except Vanille I have no clue what hers is about.

I'm still sad that English speakers ended up with "Exdeath" and "Ultimecia" when we should have got "Exodes" and "Artemisia" instead.

In comparison, "Aerith" vs "Aeris" is whatever and the takes on "Bartz" is just a silly meme.

You don't even have to hack the game btw. There's a sequence breaking glitch you can use where it passes the part where you recruit her and it automatically dumps her in your party as Aerith.

In all the games files she's called Aerith everywhere except the naming screen.

ok i get exdeath being exodes it fits the themes of the game

but im not getting ultimecia as artemisia

i had asumed her name was based on the word ultimate as she is the ultimate sorceress

It's most likely supposed to be Midgardsormr, one of the old Norse names for the Midgard Serpent (aka Jormungadr).

Still prefer Aeris. They could have named her Erith and it still would have rolled better in the tongue than Aerith.

Ultimecia might not be an accurate transliteration, but it actually works pretty well. Not only is she the ultimate sorceress due to being the culmination of all previous ones, but her name also has the word "time" in it (probably not intentional but still neat)
