Yeah, one of the things I hate most about it is that it gives the worst and most undeserving people a public platform.

I hate social media. I only use youtube if that's still considered social media. Some people consider traditional forums like this to be social media, but I disagree.

As someone who is a part of the resistance, I am an organizer with my local chapter of 50501 and a board member of my local Democratic club, social media is a vital tool for us to get the word out about our protests and civic actions and to keep people informed of what's going on and to attract new people to the resistance. Getting off social media would not help the resistance at this point, it would hurt it.

Well, maybe. One of my new favorite pastimes now is going onto facebook and shitting all over the gop. The sub humans I've triggered is hilarious and their tears delicious.

But if it meant saving the country, I'd definitely consider it.

At this point I only have a professional presence on social media, so... sure. Although I suspect we'd take a hit for leaving instagram.

Have you considered a centralized blog or site specific to your cause?
As someone who isn't on social media, i still recieve a ton of information about protests, especially by PACs. I receive most by email.

Never had a facebook or twitter account. I did my part.

Sure. Is YouTube social media? Just curious.

I'm already largely off social media, the shit is a cancer.

The County Democratic Party has a website and the Democratic Club I am a board member of has a website too. Both sites have events calendars. My protest org has registered a domain name because it was required for the bulk mailer, but we haven't actually made a site yet. We have a link tree. We all have mailing list. Ours has over 2000 people on it. Others clubs and orgs have 2000-5000 on theirs.

All of those are tools as well. Social media is still worth using as tool too. Especially to get the younger people involved. Younger people don't check events calendars on websites and sign up to mailing lists. They browse Instagram.

What if there was no instagram or other social media? They would find your site and join your mailing list.

Id be okay with LinkedIn vanishing forever.

If there was no social media or Instagram then I would hope the young kids here would do what the young kids in Nepal did.

The only sites resembling "social media" that I still use are this place and Reddit, and I'd gladly give both of those up if it would actually make a difference in this hellhole we call a country.
