I prefer the novel its based on. I felt the movie didn't go into as much detail on many of the students. Its been like 20 years since I read it but I think every student gets at least 1 chapter devoted to them. The movie has to just rush through the plot and skips lots of stuff

True (I've read the book as well), but I liked the regular and special/extended editions of the movie. Ironically, the story is much deeper than a simple "battle royal" and I got really into it when I was in college.

Crazy how its relevance has still outlived Hunger Games
A prequel novel, titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, about the early days of the Hunger Games, featuring a young Coriolanus Snow as the protagonist, was released on May 19, 2020.[10] By 2023, the prequel had sold over 3.5 million copies in North America and was available in 39 languages across 39 territories.[11]
Another prequel novel, titled Sunrise on the Reaping, taking place after the previous prequel but before the trilogy, follows a young Haymitch Abernathy through his victory of the 2nd Quarter Quell (50th Hunger Games edition). It was published March 18, 2025, and is currently set to have a film adaptation releasing November 20, 2026.[12]

I love how the Hunger Games author still denies that she directly ripped off Battle Royale. At least Battle Royale was humble enough to cite The Long Walk as one of it's inspirations.
