Yup, the had a pitch to make a spin-off horizon game and were shot down, then proceeded to continue work on the game and just changed the name while hoping no one would notice

Not much they can do about mainland China. But this is supposedly releasing around the world and has a Steam page, gonna be hard to do that if Sony wins this.

People were trying to compare this to the Palworld situation, but it's really not the same thing. Palworld is a parody of Pokemon while also clearly doing its own thing. This game is blatantly trying to be Horizon with zero satire. Sony is in the right here.

It's a shameless ripoff but that's not illegal. If Transmorphers, Atlantic Rim, The Terminators, and the unforgettable Allan Quatermain are allowed to exist so should this. The fact they pitched it to Sony at some point makes no difference, it's like saying Blizzard should have been sued after failing to obtain a license for Warhammer.

Like how Palworld plays nothing like Pokemon, the minute to minute gameplay is nothing like Horizon (it's arguably much worse, being a survival crafter). As dumb and petty as the Palworld situation is they aren't being sued for ripping off Pokemon's aesthetics, they're being patent trolled.

I think the real issue is that it just looks like Horizon. I think if you showed people the screenshot in the OP and told them it was a tease for the third game, a lot of them would believe you.

That's probably all this lawsuit would amount to in the end, just changing things enough that no one could reasonably confuse one with the other.
